If you chose to do an episode on Maximus the Confessor, my best friend’s father is an expert on him and I could try to connect you. His name is Paul Blowers.

Hi, I'm a Christian (of the charismatic evangelical persuasion), but I have benefited from a lot of Catholic Spirituality, even if I don't agree with portions of their doctrine. I love John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Francis of Assissi, desert fathers, etc. I wanted to recommend a book by Thomas Merton called: New Seeds of Contemplation. I think every protestant who is interested in a deeper walk with Christ would do well to read it--lots of good gems. For those (like myself) who like audiobooks, there are plenty of versions out there. I think Josh and Michael would appreciate this book. I'm really blessed by your show. God bless.

The Remnant Radio that’s hysterical 😂 still went well though. Fascinating topic. I only learned about desert fathers this year while doing a series on church history and very quickly bought and fell in love with “Sayings of the Desert Fathers” Great show

Ivan Uribe no author- just an editor. It’s the compilation of sayings from a bunch of the desert fathers. I got this one from amazon: The Desert Fathers: Sayings of the Early Christian Monks (Penguin Classics) www.amazon.com/dp/0140447318/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5E3fFbN5N0HKG

@@orderofeden8599 Anything translated by Benedicta Ward is solid. That one is organized by theme. I'd also recommend getting the alphabetical collection. Makes it easier to get an idea of each individual father and mother (of the three in the collection): www.amazon.com/Sayings-Desert-Fathers-Alphabetical-Collection/dp/0879079592/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=sayings+of+the+desert+fathers&qid=1595379576&sprefix=sayings&sr=8-3 Additionally, the anonymous says are great as well: www.amazon.com/World-Desert-Fathers-Fairacres-Publications-ebook/dp/B00V6KKKXU/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=anonymous+sayings+of+the+desert+fathers&qid=1595379629&sr=8-4 Lastly, the lives are full of great stories: www.amazon.com/Lives-Desert-Fathers-Monachorum-Cistercian/dp/0879079347/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=lives+of+the+desert+fathers&qid=1595379735&sprefix=lives+of+the&sr=8-3 And of course all the stuff I wrote: www.thedesertfathers.ca

I would like a reaction from Steven Bancarz on this topic, on how this man describes contemplative prayer

I bet Steven would have reservations with much of this. I like Steven B. a lot, but I have found that those who are saved out of the new age movement are against everything that reminds them of new age false practices. I have come to find that often the greatest truth is not the opposite of what is false. But in fact the enemy is brilliant at taking the truth and just adding a subtle lie to it. You can't throw the baby out with the dirty bath water.

@@rebeccadampier1993 hmm I see what you mean. In some cases definitly true I think. On the other hand, sometimes people comming out of something and lived and worked trough stuff together with God, can have an expertise and understanding of things more than people who don't.

Yes, there was! There were plenty of Desert Mothers who are included in the tradition. You can find some of my writings about them at www.thedesertfathers.ca, just look for the articles that are about the Ammas. Additionally, check out my KZbin channel Silent Fire. There is a longer video diving into some of the teachings of the Desert Mothers.
