Spiritual Revolution! American Buddhism! [BTN Documentary]
Buddhism, once primarily practiced in Asia, is now also practiced in the United States. As Buddhism does not require any formal "conversion", American Buddhists can easily incorporate dharma practice into their normal routines and traditions. The result is that American Buddhists come from every ethnicity, nationality and religious tradition.
In 2012, The San Diego Union-Tribune estimated U.S. practitioners at 1.2 million people, of whom 40% are living in Southern California.
In terms of percentage, Hawaii has the most Buddhists at 8% of the population, due to its large Asian American community.
The term American Buddhism can be used to describe all Buddhist groups within the U.S., including Asian American Buddhists born into the faith, who comprise the largest percentage of Buddhists in the country....

There is nothing exactly like Buddhism. It is simply following the teachings of Tatha Gatha. His teachings usually try to cultivate our mind which is the ultimate aim of Human existence via rationale, scientific temperament, detachment, no preconceived notions, open-mindedness, being humble, practising mindfulness.

Wonderful program. The foundation must be on the Five Precepts - ethical behaviour. Loving Kindness, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy and Equanimity are the skills everybody needs to learn by those who care about every living being. What a practical and resolving approach for a world that is going through so many complexities. Thank you to those who are engaged in this magnificent effort, in America.

It is not only in USA but in other Western countries as well that Buddhism is growing exponentially. The growth of Buddhism in England, Germany, France and Italy is due to European Buddhist pioneers like Ven. Nyanatiloka, Ven. Nyanaponika and Dr. Paul Dahlke (who founded Das Buddhistische Haus in Berlin Frohnau in 1924 - oldest Theravada Buddhist Temple in Europe) but also due to the unwavering commitment and Buddhist missionary efforts of primarily two Sinhala Buddhist visionaries from Sri Lanka who saw the huge prospects for growth of Buddhism in the West, namely Anagarika Dharmapala and Asoka Weeraratna ( founder of the Berlin Buddhist Vihara in Germany). Both of them arranged for Buddhist monks from Asia to visit and live in Europe and spread the Buddha Dhamma. Both of them entered the Order of the Sangha in later life and died as Buddhist monks.

There’s a lot of misunderstanding of Buddhism. Some practices are very limited. Overall, people lack the comprehensive study of the teaching. Wisdom is the same, curriculum is not. I hope I can explain some of the concept and contribute to the theology of American Buddhism.

According to Hinduism, Goddess Durga is the controller of this prison house called Mother Earth. All conditioned souls are trapped under her controlled. If we sincerely pray within our heart ❤️, mind and soul within our beloved believe divine faith, Durga can help conditioned soul to advance to the next level of spiritual knowledges as a sincere spiritual seekers. Durga can test conditioning souls in various temptation ways before she’s allowing prisoners to attain Moksha and before attaining the present of Divince Grace Supreme Controller Lord Krishna. Lord Buddha is one of the Dasa Avatars of Lord Krishna.

i think most Buddhists in the USA are of Asian descent, yeah? so maybe it's better to show Asians at the beginning of (and throughout!) the video rather than having us look at and listen to white people so much. and maybe (please!) don't say that Buddhism was introduced in 1893 since it really started with Asians (mostly Chinese at first, i think) who arrived starting in 1820 (i think) and then more and more by the time of the gold rush in California.

Good observation. I think this documentary is good but it erases Asian American Buddhists and their contributions to American Buddhism. The various strands of Pure Land (Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese etc), Theravada (Sri Lankan, Laotian etc) It's all been there for a very long time, but very rarely acknowledged.

It doesn't matter the origin of where Buddhism came from. I think what the narrator was saying was Buddhism was introduced first in the US on 1893. Buddha was enlightened 2500 years ago. As a South Asian I am still learning about the Dhamma or the teachings of Buddha. The most important thing is these people are practicing Buddha's teaching to be compassionate human beings. Compassion for all beings is the most fundamental teachings of Buddha. There's no colour or cast, we are all beings looking for some meaning in life. You take baby steps and the deep teachings of Buddha will come to each person through knowledge and understanding. Once we learn the four noble truths we will understand Buddha's teaching. It's commendable that they are able to reform inmates.

@@yaseenackerman150 The whole concept of Buddhism is being compasion and being humble and doesn't care about recognition. Buddha himself didn't want people worshiping him. So it doesn't matter where Buddhism originated pertaining to this documentary. There are other documentaries about Buddhism and its history if people want to know.

@@Aurora_808 I think you have understood Buddha's teaching than most. Buddhism is a way of life. I have a friend who is an aithiest, who is the most loving, kind, compassionate, generous person I have met. So in other words she is a Buddhist ! An enlightened person. So you are right.
