"Girl you know I've nothing left / I'm just a feather on your breath" - is one of the loveliest lines in any song ever.

Nice versions, great recording. Ah, Peel sessions. Love how Spiritualized live versions were usually different from the record.

Sign of a brilliant band. My opinion but I'm guessing a lot of that was down to Jaaaaas'n (apologies - joke for my brother there, who may - or may not, in fact probably not - be reading). As the only constant (correct me if I'm wrong. Unless you're my brother and you ARE reading this), it stands to reason he'd do the rearranging. But then, when did Sprititualized do much to reason? As far as I can read - and what you read up the internet isn't to be relied on, as we all know, but what else have we got to rely on, so let's abandon all reason - Jase put all the songs together, vocals, strings, brass, copper, everything yet he had no musical 'training'. If all of this is so, and he rearranges brilliant orginials (which he wrote!) into stellar verions like this (which he re-wrote!), then f me. He should be leading the world. Check out the flute (now I'm showing how little I know) or the wind/windy instrument that checks in at 9 minutes - imagine the Leader Of The Free World being able to create a sound like that. An end to war, taxes, Tories, death. It all beckons. The King is Jase! The Jason is King! Best band ever. Since the last one I wrote a comment about on youtube.

This man hosted everyone's music from Napalm Death to Syd Barrett, and I'm so happy to discover he didn't have Spiritualized untouched

I like the shambling improv multi loop thing at the end. I wish Jason had done more truly out there stuff now and then, especially after Ladies And Gentlemen when SPRTLZD drifted into safe territory.

R.I.P John Peel. Why was there never a Spacemen 3 Peel Sessions?
@latontolog3 жыл бұрын
They were actually booked to appear several times but were too stoned to find the studio :(
@henrydemonfreid19852 жыл бұрын
There wasn't a Spacemen 3 peel session. Peel had played 'Rollercoaster' (the 17 minute one...) early on and had left it spinning whilst he played other tunes. He went back to it a couple of times, joking, saying "Spacemen 3 are still going over here...." Sonic rang up the BBC to berate Peel so Spacemen 3 got the BBC ban....

Just revisiting early SPRTLZD after a good while (got bored of every album sounding exactly the same). The early songs have aged so well, still have a lovely freshness, not sure why but get an Astral Weeks feeling.
