@theaustralianconundrum Жыл бұрын
@@Errol.C-nz Let me explain. It is NOT a GSXS. It is a GSX with an 8 in the middle. It is a parallel twin that use the marketing wank of crossplane when these capacity bikes don't even benefit from is and none of them are an R1 that does benefit from Crossplane. It is certainly superior to the budget SV650. GSX8S are 100% made in Japan where the 2023 SV650's are assembled in Thailand. Power: 75hp · Torque: 47 lb-ft · Weight: 437 lbs (198kg) A 2023 GSX8S is 83.1 hp 57.5 lb-ft. It has marginally more bhp but far more torque from the larger 776cc engine.
@jridenour31 Жыл бұрын
@@theaustralianconundrumIt's not "marketing wank." Even if there's no performance benefit from the 270, which I won't get into because I really don't know but it certainly isn't hurting anything, they sound better. That alone is enough reason to justify it.
@jridenour31 Жыл бұрын
@Errol.C-nz Yeah, the sv650 can do that easily. You forgot to mention that it costs thousands of dollars and you have no idea what the gsx-8s is capable of with the same effort and money. That's not the point of either of those bikes, anyway. The number of people buying either of those with the goal of making 100+ is incredibly small.

A 790/890 Duke doesn't have 270 degree vibes, it has 285 degree vibes! You can easily hear the difference in the first 5 seconds. And no, the SV650 was absolutely not Suzuki's reaction to the MT-07! The MT-07 was Yamaha's 15 years late reaction to the SV650.
@thebrowns53373 ай бұрын
The fact the SV is essentially 26 years old now yet still, in a way, competes with a bike 10 years younger just shows how good Suzuki are. Understated quality and class. Not sure why Spite thinks the SV is dead? I can still order a brand new (2025 MY) SV in the UK. Group testers are all saying Yamaha need to update the MT07 now, yet when Suzuki brought out the gsx8s a year ago they still kept the SV - people still buy them new. It's not in the same groip as such but the fact it sells so well even today tells you something.
@thestonegateroadrunner73053 ай бұрын
@@thebrowns5337 Yeah, also in Germany the SV got a colour choice update for 2025. The SV is just a great entry level bike for Suzuki, almost 2000€ below the GSX-8S. @@donderstorm1845 in my opinion, yes, it's too much too soon for a beginner. This is my second bike and it does feel like it needs an intermediate level of skill. I started out on a Kawasaki Ninja 400 and during my first year of riding that bike felt wildly fast, it took time to get experience and comfortable with riding. When I started I thought the Ninja was fast, and it took two years before my experience level started begging for power behind the wheel. The suzuki is my first bike where I really twist the throttle and it feels like the bike is shooting out from under me, I think that's too much for a beginner. I highly encourage new riders to buy a used 300-500cc bike and then sell it after a year or two for pretty much what you paid for it. Coming out of a village onto a country lane it goes from 30 to 50/60mph in the blink of an eye due to the torque. Thats addictive but on the wrong road probably could get you into bother. That would be even more of the case on the NK from what I've heard/seen about it.

I'd take the GSX8S. I prefer torquey p-twins to detuned inline 4s. (With the soul exception of the Hornet)
@englishsteel-nz6im Жыл бұрын
The GSX750 going to outperform this but it's power is all up top which a lot of people don't like. Handling on the GSX750 for it's weight is kind of unreal tho it's a precision carver that's easy to throw around. Mt09(non SP)and z900 don't even compare lol

Great review, I currently ride a cbr125. Next year I will be able to go for my a2 license and I’m thinking of getting a gsx8s (35kw) because it looks great and I can up the hp instead of buying a new motorcycle again when I have my A license.
@thebrowns53373 ай бұрын
I got my A (full licence) two months ago - I'm old so didn't need to do the A1, A2 thing but maxed out my CBT. I test rode this last week and it feels fine for the jump up, even unrestricted. Really handles well - in a neutral manner. Rode it for an hour, no discomfort at all Suspension seemed more composed than the Z650 I did my training/test on.

Great review and agree with everything you say. I test rode this bike recently and was very impressed with it, so much so that i was very tempted to chop in my XSR900 for it. Its just the looks that made me hesitant, especially the rear end tail light abomination. These are £8K in the UK, a grand more than you quoted but still a great price.

It weird as it can be clunky at times and smooth as butter all at low RPM. Though I think after the break-in I'm hoping it will smooth out like it did on my MT-09. Though I love it! Reminds me of my MT-07 but with some of the electronics from the MT-09. Can't wait for more upgrades to come out for it. I know it gonna sounds as good as my MT-07 did.

In the us the price difference between the GSX 8S and the SV650 seems to be a grand, meanwhile in the Netherlands the SV costs €8100, while the GSX-8S costs €10.000 new. Getting rid of the SV would mean handing the position of affordable middleweight to Kawasaki with their Z650.

Spike…. Suzuki still didn’t killed sv650! It will still get produced as an entry level product while 8s is more quality and tech bike, with bit more peps. Tho i love it over ktm. That blue… damn love it! Rode it… and had a tough choice for returning bike after a crash… tuono 660, 8s, monster 937…. All 3 were pretty similar for my skill. And loved all of the, tho went with monster 937+ cuz fell in love with that engine shouting spaghetti and poping with termis Hornet can go back to sleep.

But rode the 1000s, love it but was too much hp for road in EU. And tech was outdated. This one is smoother designed better equiped and perfect. Also. Suzuki shifter and rear brake! FFS guys, those are now here for a while and suzuki only manage to give a buttery smooth shifter, and a rear brake braking! Compn xD

Also, one thing i « didnt » like (tho it wasn’t that bad) is the bike struggle passed 8000 rpm… that said never went that high on road as torque was the real fun of the bike until those 8k rpm

@@spitescorner the sv650 did pass euro 5 its allready sold here in france with Euro 5 regulations. I don’t see why they would have went to the trouble to make it pass and discontinued it. At least for france they allready said it will go until euro6. :) Also it give them a cheap easy money bike… regarding market price sv is as expensive as 300/400/500 with sometime half the power. I think this bike is a home run, but they made it essential to get a tail tidy cos of regulations for that ridiculous looking appendage. 776cc is to permit gradual growth in successive years as a selling point. I like that this and the Katana have a similar design language. Totally deadly looking in black. Should be nicknamed The Crow.

Sounds like a solid bike that checks all the boxes for the naked class. Highway doesn't surprise me - no windscreen, sitting position, etc., it won't feel like a Goldwing. Yeah, I don't expect to eat slab miles on a sport-naked. One could do it, but it won't be comfortable. Seems like Suzuki is giving a good price/performance ratio on this one.

Truly appreciate the metric spec values. Just one thing i noticed, you also did the price in €uros. Even though appreciated i dont know if really necessary as prices are so market based. Your translation for value was around 8100€ where as for example in Finland the bike is 12790€. So nice thing to do but it is really not going to translate that well to market specific prices.

Good points on the €uro and different markets. We have similar market fluctuations here in the US and a bike in Wisconsin will be much more affordable than one in southern California. However, MSRPs won’t typically change in a fiscal year for most brands and the benefit of having the exchange is so that non-USD using viewers know exactly how much that value equals in another money at the time the video was made. Similar to inches to centimeters or pounds to kilograms. If I’m watching an Aussie video with a bike cost in $AUS and the creator doesn’t provide the exchange, I’m Googling the exchange so I know how much that is in a dollar I’m familiar with.
