Marc is using Cinesamples Cinestrings v1.0, which is like 10 years old version of this instrument, v 1.4 or v. 2.0 is completely different story, also using only room mic here is not the best option imo. Legato transitions aren't probably even triggered due to lack of overlaping, which Iam not sure if Marc is doin here or not. Interesting comparison though.

Thanks for the note @thelittleprince8446! 🙏 I'll redo the comparison with 2.0 in the next vid! You're right. 2.0 is different. The legato transitions are nicer. Also, they cleaned them up and some notes are more in tune. But the tone, timbre, and color remain the same. That's for the long notes The short notes on the other hand lost a bit of aggression and bite imo and so I went back to 1.0, which I use to brighten accents. I've got so many old libraries in my template 😅 Thanks again for the comment 😀👍

This is a professional comparison. Also a great example, how much it is really important to have classical music composing skill, knowing exactly, how different instruments sound, behave, articulate, breath, play legato exactly, in real. There are obvious differences between orchestral libraries at sonar quality and practicality etc. At the end of the day, the most important thing, how someone using them, how a modern digital - music composer can use his/her tools to create MUSIC that sounds realistic, excellent and beyond. Hey Marc, I also noticed that you;re on the older version of CSS. The 1.7 update is really something in terms of vibrato crossfading, the overal tone and the low latency legato. The Marcato is incredible too and perfect for runs. Would love your thoughts on the updated version :)

Marc, have you noticed in the 2.0 version Cinestrings Core that the vibrato slider doesn't work as expected? On my end if the fader is to the left, a new note will not have vibrato, but then you can't add vibrato to that note. If you move it to the right, a new note will have vibrato but you can crossfade back to non-vibrato. I've written the company about this and can't tell if it is just me or no one else has noticed. I also wish the short overlay feature was velocity sensitive! Seems like an oversight that it is not! There is a threshold you can set to trigger a short attack, and you can switch between three different attacks, but they are heard a the same velocity. So, if I set the attack threshold at zero because I always want attacks, I'll just hear a one-velocity attack since the sustain is so low with that CC is at pianissimo.

As a string player I love it…in very specific contexts. So much portamento haha. I like to blend it with CSS to tame it a bit, but that’s just me 🙃

for my ears, CSS sounds much better honestly, maybe it's just my taste in sound but i also think it's not just the strings itself but the room as well. Huge difference in room sound from all 3 of these libraries. I prefer CSS in that sense.

I''m far from being a fan of the CSS-hype, but in Your comparison: CSS is winning by far. Normally I would say: because of the big section of ARO 1st Violins they are naturally lacking detail / emotion. But Spitfire showed with their Spitfire Symphonic Strings, that they are able to let big sections sound very emotional. In this point ARO 1st Violins is a step back in my opinion.

wow css is such a noisy library :/ genuinely the only thing keeping me away from it. the quality of the recorded samples is so unfortunate

I have css and it isn't nearly as noisy, I have never actually noticed the noise. I wonder if it's partly because he is using an outdated version of the library (he doesn't have a second spot mic) and I know they did a huge revamp of the sound quality.
