The Spitfire two seat "Trainers" were built to fill an Irish Air Force post WW2 order when there was a great abundance of newish slightly bent orphan Spits laying around with few other serious takers. Pity there was no time or money to create such trainers in the thick of early WW2 when this model type plus onboard instructor experience could have saved the lives of so many new pilots.
