Thank you, Michael Cox. I never thought I would watch a 52 minute video about the flute. Years of experienced info and technique in one video that just flows out as casual, interesting conversation with seemingly effortless skills. I appreciate the passion and respect the experience and knowledge. I especially liked the tongue, whistle, and modern techniques towards the end which I wasn't really aware of. It would be fun to hear you play a trick filled, "Eddie van Halen" style flute solo. ;)

One of the reasons why Mike's tongueing articulation is so fantastic is because he uses the French technique. The tongue is placed much further forward than many other players. I could never do that. My tongue is, on a regular basis, about a centimetre further back on the hard palate. I would, myself, not actually be able to do the French style of articulation regarding tongueing, This is one of the approximately 10 reasons why Mike is a world class player and I only held my own in an Italian opera orchestra. I'm not a FAILED musician but Mike is just in an ENTIRELY different league, Make sure Mike gets to know what I said!

A gold alto flute...OH MY GOD. I would never have believed it - Mike plays it brilliantly. I only ever played the alto flute in a professional orchestra once. It was the same Italian opera (so useless I can't even remember the name). We did 10 performances of it, there were only about 10 or 11 notes in it and I got paid 500 euros for each performance.. ONLY IN ITALY!!

Excellent lesson on this fantastic instrument. Gratitude for talking about the flute with so much experience and passion! After all, I learned the real importance of interpretation through the mustache and eyebrows (!!!) Sorry for the joke! Gratitude!

How utterly ludicrous and unprofessional to play the flute with such a hideous moustache!

It's difficult anyway to get recognised if you are a flute player. A world quality moustache is a great thing.
