Hey buddy, I've done the Spiti trip through Manali and the route is worse than Shimla-Kaza route. In fact, there's no road at all. Usually, people come to Kaza via Shimla and return via Manali by also visiting Chandratal Lake if interested. Manali Kaza route is only open for few months during the year.
