@liambaylis93654 жыл бұрын
He's a decent enough player (skill wise) but was always stuck as third line or occasional second line player. This must have been hard for him, plus the speed that Cuthbert and Hunter moved on to Phaneuf and Stoll respectively, must have really hurt. We are so reactionary when we see a famous person - athlete in this case - overreact, that we don't consider what is actually going on in their lives.
@poopydoodie114 жыл бұрын
@@liambaylis9365 Honestly his skill is greatly overstated. His highest point totals were never that great and he benefited from playing alongside some great players on those Ranger teams. If you look back when he was on Detroit and LA all he ever racked up were penalty minutes. That being said, Tortorella did him dirty by basically ending his career by banishing him to the minors at 31 because he didn't like him. He definitely could still play.
@poopydoodie113 жыл бұрын
@@adriankalitka3762 IIRC it was for not blocking a shot but Gaborik did try to but he missed. That wasn't the reason they didn't win the cup though, that happened in the second round, by the eastern conference finals Gaborik was playing his normal ice time again. I'm a Devils season ticket holder and went to every game in the eastern conference finals. The Devils completely outplayed them, especially over the first four games. If Lundqvist didn't stand on his head they would've been swept. Go back and look at the box score or watch the tape for game 3. I've never seen a team dominate a game so much and get shutout. They literally spent the entire game in the rangers end. I went with Rangers fans to each game and they even admitted the Devils looked like the superior team throughout the series, Lundqvist was the only thing giving the Rangers chance. The Rangers had a great team that year but once the playoffs started they Devil were locked in.

@1Learn2Swim34 жыл бұрын
They were probably expecting a penalty called on Avery.. wtf were they supposed to do? And Avery would've starched either of those guys In a scrap, in all likelihood. Only thing Stevens would've done is try to decapitate Avery with a blindside the next time they played eachother..

I think part of the problem is that there was a 5-3 so the Devils were afraid to do anything but overall you are correct. The devils consistenly let the rangers walk all over them in that series. The only ones who really seemed to try and do something about it was John Madden or Brodeur himself. Game 5 of that series was the worst game I've ever been to in 20 years as a season ticket holder, it was 95 percent ranger fans and they just totally mopped the floor with the devils.
