Those bitching about the writing should watch the original series with someone who had not seen the original. When you are doing shows that have to be written/prepped and aired in a 7 day period, not every joke will land. The old series had just as many flat jokes as this. Don't let your nostalgia fool you. Any movie that does well in the box office usually has some easter-egg tied to a great movie within a decade in the past. Sometimes they'll even use it as a selling point (such as the long awaited casting of Queen Sigourney Weaver in a Sci-Fi movie as James Cameron's 'Avatar' did) Plus all the movies back then didn't need to contain a zombie or a super power. (even Jackie Chan is using super powers in his movies (single tear)) . If you take a look at that list.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films You'll find out that for the most part I'm correct on saying that. ...and you're not getting on that list unless 1. You're James Cameron or Mickey Mouse. 2. You make a Family Friendly movie for the whole family to see. effectively squeezing the ticket sales out of the healthy nuclear family (cheap tactic). and Most importantly. 3.YOUR CHARACTER'S ORIGIN IS BASED ON SOMETHING THAT INVOKES NOSTALGIA (at least a decade ago, furthermore all of the superheroes probably predate you and me). If all the movies and stuff in the past aren't better, then why do movies based on them obliterate everything at the box office? You said "Don't let your nostalgia fool you." but as I've shown you already nostalgia is your best bet when trying to sell a movie. And no one here is being fooled here, there are actually some good movies coming out of these OLD characters. ....And As for the Music industry... I agree. On the original series I was often delightfully shocked by the brazen content. When you take on a beast like Maggie Thatcher, you'd better be the beastmaster!
