A lot of people don't realize what a great guitarist Steve is because they've got visions of him at 15 sitting at that B-3 singing "I'm A Man" or whatever, but man he has some scary chops on the six-string. I've been a huge fan of Clapton for more than 40 years, but I saw their tour together in 2009 and Steve gave as good as he got when he and Eric traded riffs. A true wild talent. His kind don't come along very often.

I was at this concert. This was taped in Las Vegas. It was in August! IT WAS SO DAMN HOT, a camel passed out in the parking lot, and it was a Hippie camel! Traffic opened for Garcia. Their last song was You Can All Join In. EVERYBODY was on their feet despite how hot it was! This was taped later during Garcia's set. Steve Winwood came out to sing this with Garcia's band. People went nuts during the last part of this song. It was fabulous!

I honestly thought the Avetts had a shot at becoming a touring force not fully like the Dead but as close as any other band could get- then they done F’d up and signed w/ Rubin now the entire fan base has become VERY wealthy white folk and that’s it- pre Carpenter their shows had a vibe that put me close to where these ones did- but it was the people, sadly like myself we all tossed the koolaid and moved on- they’re special but lost my respect by selling out

I'm a big Dead fan and I've seen them and Ive seen them a couple dozen times. Never had the change to see Winwood. That being said, I prefer Winwood's guitar playing over Jerry's. Jerry Garcia used heavily modified custom guitars, tone of effects (including a guitar synth, but his tone was almost always the same. Jerry played a lot of quick 1/16th notes and 1/8 notes and his solos were way too monotonous.
@Tommy2shoe8118 жыл бұрын
+Led ZeppelinFan I agree with the Jerry critique but you gotta realize he was in the end days of a brutal disease so you can't really judge based on this performance or those from really any of the 90's. If you want to see true greatness check out the Dead's performance of Morning Dew from Cornell '77. True masterpiece. It'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up

Someone posted that this concert was in Vegas, July '94. If so, I was there! SO bitter-sweet listening to The Dead. In 1994, I thought I knew exactly who I was and where I was going. Career on track. Steady GF of 6 years. Great friends. Not a care in the world. We hit every Dead show within 500 miles of Los Angeles in my VW bus. One year later my career was in shambles, GF gone, and Jerry was gone. It took 6 months of bumming around Europe before I took some personal stock. I came back to the U.S., resurrected my career, met the love of my life, and started a family. But I will always associate the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead with that joyful and carefree period in my life. Thanks for posting.

This is a great piece by great artists. As a musician, I know how easy it is to heat up a tune, bring it to a fervor, and the consummate Mr. G. cools it until the big release. You can see the love shining out of this guy. What a nice show! Thanks for posting this. As I watch it again, I am reminded how the narrative connected with the lives of these musicians, especially Mr. Garcia, who had a clan dependent on his playing.
