Cristina "Trinity" Vélez-Justo (she/her/hers) is a Puerto Rican public speaker and educator, and an award-winning composer for film and media through her business ReelScoring, LLC. She relocated from Los Angeles in 2018 after finishing the Television Academy Foundation (Emmy's) Internship in Music and working as an assistant to accomplished film and television composers (credits include Hulu's Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie and Being Frank). Through film festivals and academic institutions, including SXSW and University of North Carolina School of the Arts (as a former instructor in the MFA Film Music program), Trinity educates filmmakers and students on the psychological impact of music and sound in film and how to successfully work with a composer. She also speaks internationally about networking in a disconnected world, and diversity and inclusion in the industry and creative classroom. Trinity is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in (Ethno)Musicology with a specialization in Cognitive and Behavioral sciences at The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on how music can manipulate perceptions on gender and race in media, and to encourage change in how the industry uses music to represent marginalized groups, creating more positive associations to diverse entities.
On the Stage Together is a KZbin series created by Ohio State's chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota celebrating diversity and inclusion in music. Performances include works by female and BIPOC composers, while lectures and discussions surround topics of diversity and inclusion in music.
