Thank you for the mention and I'm very glad to see you made a pair after I told you about them! If you go with the splatcher style as opposed to the pattens you can drill holes in them to avoid the suction effect.

Thanks again for sharing that information! I love stuff like this. Old technology that still works. Good tip on drilling holes.

I use 1/4 inch plywood with a 1/2 inch skeg down the middle. I drill holes in the plywood to run the laces through. The shape is 18 x 9 inch. Kind of a long oval. I think you could fasten a pair of cheap sandals to them, but I have not tried yet. I Love your channel ! Thanks for the effort

Now if you have read Swollows and Amazons by Arthur Ransom there is a book in the series that talks about making Slatchers for walking over mud. I have heard that they can be more curved maybe leaf shaped. Never tried myself. Nice music.

If only the Cumberland Rover's first name were Donald. Then what a wonderful Swallows & Amazons' nickname could be bestowed upon him...

That's right Geoff. the book is called Secret Water and was published in 1939. The splatchers in the book were circular, but the children in the book did comment about how Donald had to do a funny walk to use them.

Perhaps a snowshoe binding and bindings slightly biased to the i nside? Grippy pattern on bottom?

Ooo dont get them on a slope lol. Nice music vibe.

Snowshoes work equally as well and you don’t have the suction issues

you should try to find a cheep old snow board at thrift store and just use the bindings off those

Reminds me of snowshoes. Try to make them a bit longer and narrower.

Maybe a little modification of shape….big foot comes to the Cumberland? Great music, with the natural “splatching”sounds.😊
