The reason the first Power Rangers looked like the sentai team is as part of the adaptation deal, the got the actual props and costumes from Japan when they were done with them, along with the action footage. All they had to do then was film the scenes when they were out of costume and dub the fight sequences.

Having this honorary status allow Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger to make a small cameo during that movie. Is the only unofficial sentai team to be given this honorary status make it so fair the only none official sentai team canon to the super sentai time line. To explain the last one, thats Kingohger. its another planet and they used mostly greenscreen stuff during that as part of still having had to deal with some COViD stuff during production. It was like that for some of the prior two series as well (Zenkaiger and DonBrothers) hence the constant suit acting by most of the members in one and so much Cgi ranger stuff in the other. In Kingohger every one of them is the soverign of a kingdom.

They did have permission to use sentai footage all the did here in the states is film scenes out of suits. Zenkaiger is a anniversary season as the 45th sentai. The other zenkaigers use powers from previous sentai. Red is zyuranger, yellow is gaoranger, blue is carranger, pink is magiranger. Kyuuranger they are based on the zodiac. Cosmic fury which is a third season of Dino fury used original footage the only sentai footage was during megazord fights which they used kyuuranger zords. Imo here in the states they should of done better with the adaptation of goseiger and gokaiger "megaforce and super megaforce."

Back in the 90's they wanted to "adapt" Sentai into Power Rangers. This was a time when Japanese entertainment was being disguised so it will "appeal" more to American kids. This was true for most anime as well. They had this idea that Japan is this other planet with a strange culture. Besides, it was pre-internet, how were the gonna know. They didn't count on time and the internet coming around and by the 2000's kids were hungry for real Japanese entertainment. Power Rangers already has it's fan base so it had a decent following but many American Sentai fans like me do feel it wasn't necessary to do adaptations. It's still a a bit of rift in the fandom.
