Based on the earlier dev logs, the original idea was that as a sanitized Octoling climbed through the tower with their Palette in tow, the color chips they slotted in would be the ones that best fit, and thus were their own memories. But the "dev diaries" we got from doing Eight's Palette were _Acht's_ memories. Now, in a lot of ways Acht and Eight are very different - Acht is a slacker who only cared about making music, whereas Eight is clearly a talented warrior... Maybe what we thought was Eight's Palette is actually Acht's? And if so, where is Eight's?

The real reason is probably that both Agent 8 and Acht were the only Sanitised octolings yeah... There were also some fun tinfoil hat crack theories that Agent 8 IS Acht since Acht is german for 8, but it has more or less been debunked. The names both being " 8 " and the fact that Acht doesn't have their own Pallete in Side Order as well as the fact that we never see them outside of the artificially created world of the Memverse were the main points of the theory. It was kind of popular for a short while before it got more or less debunked from the fact you could see Acht during the final Splatfest.

I want to see a full completion of this, all three slots completed on each chip, all purchases completed, just everything until we get something really special from the DLC dev team as a thank you for 100%ing the game. Overall, the whole story mode will leave me some interesting thoughts on how the Memverse will be utilized in the next installment for Splatoon following the third game. That said congrats, Jay! I enjoyed the commentary and investment to what this dlc had to offer in the ongoing saga.

It was so great watching your playthrough of this DLC, Jay. Congrats on beating it! As for what type of content I would like to see, monochrome runs (where you only collect chips of a singular color, for example luck chips with dualies, support ones with charger, or mobility with brush) are really cool! They give you lots of Prlz, are the best way to max out some of the missing color chips, and are just super fun to watch and play. They can best be done with an increased color chip bias and lots of vending machine/floor resets.

heres my theory: in octo expansion you have to collect all the memcakes to "relive your memories". what if one of the memcakes we collected in dep sea metro gave us part of our memory because it was our own? it makes sense ,doesn't it?

@@gigglenose1990 it makes sense cuz in one of the dev diaries it states that kamamba co were mind wiping the subjects so that would include 8 meaning one of the mem cakes out thier would be part of ours. Some of the other part of our memories must have been in another cake otherwise there would never be a eight palete or any reason for marina to test the mem verse on eight if she had all of her memories. So my theory is that one of the cakes isnt the full memories of eight but obly some. Marina did say that a 1 cake could have multiple peoples memories in them so this may imply that the cakes are more complex then one person one cake. Maybe there could be multiple for one person. If so then my theory is pretty rock solid

I have a sneaking suspicion that we have been doing Eights palette all along, because the entire locker is Eights palette, not just the specific thing at the very end. Thousands of people were supposed to get sucked into the Memverse when the security gap occured, yet we only have to reconfigure the palettes of some prominent figures. So what if instead those are just Eights memories of these people that they knew or got to know on the surface and that are important to them (or rather, the player, because introducing Eights mum would be weird) that Eight just unlocks. Notice how Pearl and Marina are first on there, seeing how they are the first peolpe Eight met after sanitization and the ones who helped them through Octo Expansion. And the locker dissapearing into a ball of light once Eights palette is cleared could just mean - process complete, you are done, Eight. Going against the in-game dialogue implications here, but the raging Ball of Order would then represent the spirit/virus of Kamabo Co - aka the effects of sanitisation - residing in Eights mind, seeing how Order has suspiciously similar motives of eliminating everyone's free will by grayscaling and creating a perfect world of unity from this. Eight climbing the tower twelve times and, with the help of Pearl and Marina's dialogue, weakening Order more and more, turning them into a friendly bystander in the end, would be Eight wrangling with Kamabo Co's ideals and, finally, mentaly freeing themselves from them, completing the process of de-sanitisation. I also like the theory, that someone else commented, that this is instead Achts palette and Eight is just helping them clear it, seeing how we unlock some Acht memories in the end, and Achts presence in the elevator remains unexplained to the end, whereas Eight was explicitly present when the whole thing got off rails.

Acht saying that they are an OTH fan made me realize that there is a funny hierarchy of Splatoon bands: - Acht, who is DJ Dedf1sh, is a fan of Off the Hook, most likely garvitating towards Marina - Marina is clearky a fan of the Squid Sisters (and, it seems, a huge fan of Marie specifically) - according to rassicas, Marie in S2 Hero Mode says that she is a fan if Chirpy Chips! So we have a chain of sorts, and Chirpy Chips, of all bands, is at the top.

I just gave myself an extra life and some slight damage reduction, and focused on getting good chips, picking floors that wouldn't be too much of a challenge, and taking things slow and steady. I got a double chip floor for main piercing early on, and I think that helped me significantly throughout the run. Also, saving money towards the end so I could skip floors if I didn't like any of the options. Not playing through Cruel Sisyphean Eight-Shaped Floor with low hacks.

Info about the color chips: You need to set at least 5 of the same chip into a single run's pallete to fully light the LEDs for most chips. This is including the 3 that can stack up to 10 and excluding the ones that are just an On/Off chip. Each color tone is seperated into 3 sub tones and they are linked with lines under the chips. Upon fully lighting up the LEDs of the same sub tone set, you get a Chip badge of that subtone color for your Banner. Lighting up the entire color tone will light up the little circle at the end of the tone line. There is no special reward other than the sub tone badges for lighting up the entire thing that I could tell, just seeing all the circles lit up. (Getting 5 Brella cooldowns in one run was a nightmare as support chips aren't the brella's common or second common tone). I was hoping to get like a rainbow chip badge or something to indicate it being complete, but unfortunately I didn't get one. Then again, maybe if I max out the ones that can have 10 chips in runs, something will happen. Edited to add: Getting those last 3 chips to max did nothing new. Also, upon purchasing the last items in Ciphers shop, I am allowed to purchase a mystery box like item for 100 prlz once a day, getting it delivered the next day. I'm just waiting for the day to cycle to see what type of items it has.

I think those extra Acht diaries are meant to symbolize Acht and Eight being the same person? We never had a clue what Eight was like pre-sanitization, and Acht is only ever present here in the Memverse as a bunch of code... it's not explicitly ruled out, at least. And that's even if we decide to ignore Eight and Acht having basically the same name lmao.

The problem is that we probably know who Acht is outside of the memverse. It's heavily implied Acht is Dedf1sh, the musician who composed all the music for the Octo Expansion. It also wouldn't make sense for 8 and Acht to be the same, since there doesn't seem to be a cure for sanitization's physical changes.

I hate how you have to go through all the trouble and buildup of getting Eight's palette only for there not to be so much as a line of dialogue to confirm they got their memories back 😭 Story wise I feel like the DLC completely fumbles, and even gameplay wise I wish there was a final challenge like Inner Agent 3 or After Alterna, rather than just "do the same thing again but marginally more difficult" 😞 Idk, just disappointed this is what we got after it felt like Splatoon singleplayer modes were on an upwards trend, tho Octo Expansion set a really high bar so maybe be expectations were kind of bloated
