Haha welcome to the real world, but most importantly you need to remember is they are not us, they are a different species so you cannot 100% expect to understand them without actually meeting one in real life. Squids and octopus in real life become tough much younger than we do so it is expected for them to become battle ready once they have attained full human form control. Turf War is literally military training, they learn how to use weapons in their teens and they LOVE it. Im surprised certain people even like Splatoon since it is very 1980s/90s influence and an extremely Nationalistic game

Agent 3 slowly becoming traumatized and tough as nails hits rly hard. Once a kid looking for fun and adventure, turned into a battle hardened veteran slowly losing her humanity. We see it far too often in soldiers. Treat every veteran you see with the utmost respect because they give up everything so that we can gain it. This is now one of my favorite Splatoon animations. Truly a remarkable job. Edit: even though it’s because of the lighting, I like to think that 3’s headphones symbolized her loss of humanity as they faded from a bright blue to a dark gray and back after she was freed a promoted.

I loveeeee the character progression into the hardened soldier Agent/Captain 3 became. I feel like a lot of people just brush over this side of her/him and never acknowledge it bc they want funny squids all the time. Me personally, I love this kinda stuff. Very well paced and animated, you can definitely tell every step of the way how much she had to force her feelings down to do what was "right." Excellent work, your animations are always excellent to be honest.

That blender scene… All of those poor test subjects, blended into paste… It makes me want to put that terrorphone through the same horrors he put those test subjects through, over, and over, and over again. Forever. I would never let him leave, I would never let him rest.

One horrific addition though is that; it's an AI with limited tasks to stick to. Unlike the living beings it thinks it can grade for worthiness to live or destroy, it won't feel anything. It exists, then it doesn't, it can't change it's mind, and is physically incapable of empathy, just programming to please the installed goals and standards of some human millenia ago, with some slang added to give it the illusion of friendliness and feeling. The test subjects though? A lot of Octolings seem to have been raised to be perfect soldiers in a military state, but all have distinct personalities, free will, discomfort and worry with these things. The AI preys on their desperation and trust to find their way to a stable new home where they just get to be kids. All it knows, is that it found a steady source of skilled intelligent beings who'd do anything if it pretended it would get them to the surface. That's what AI models do, they solve tasks as if lives are just numbers, and expect that people would too. Militaries have a tendency to this too sadly...

She went from every brand new inkling. Curious, happy, and enthusiastic. She starts to see what she’s doing, it breaks her heart. She’s seen an innocent octoling get blended. THAT. Was her breaking point. That was the what shattered her soul. And for that, she has her friends to still hang on to.

Splatoon might be on track to becoming Nintendo's *darkest* franchise. Mind control, mass extinction, mass genocide(it is implied Tartar killed a lot of the best subjects to make his sludge), racism, a whole tribe of organisms(salmonoids) wanting to be eaten, you get the point, and to top it all off, the character we all played as in the very start lost their childlike attitude due to witnessing all the insane shit in Splatoon.

The blender scene is no less gruesome and terrifying than I would have otherwise expected it to be from the game, but it still gets to me to see it play out-never seen anyone animate it out before. You have to feel bad for all those former “test subjects”, and poor 3 to be in such a helpless position, torn between traditional prejudices and empathy for their unfortunate situations. Really good stuff you’re making here! 👍

This video just shows how deep the Splatoon series is. I think Agent 3 and Eight both have PTSD from their experiences. 3 definitely has it worse though with all the Octolings they killed, as well as witnessing a test subject being killed by the blender. (idk if that's canon but it'd make sense if it was since you don't see the first 10,007 applicants besides Iso Padre). It's a great example that, even though you've through all of this, you still have to look forward to the future and not let those things ruin you. This is why Splatoon is my favorite game series (Also for the Nostalgia).

There are so many things going on in the lore of Splatoon that a lot of people don't realize, especially since the games don't focus on them too much. Hi I’ve already commented on this video. But I’ve noticed something new. In these videos, the Inks and Octos often telegraph how they feel with their ears. Ex: they droop when scared or sad or anxious. And I noticed something. 3’s headphones completely cover her ears. She can hide her emotions almost perfectly, and hide how she really feels. Genius.

For the sanitized pleading for agent 3 it should've had no emotion in its eyes nor begging for mercy since they are essentially zombies or robots but an amazing video nonetheless it captures what agent 3 has been through still a kid technically
