As someone who actually specializes in "bad weapons", I like them the way they are. Not everything has to be good or easy because challenging yourself is rewarding and bad weapons force you to develop skills easy weapons don't. Clash Blaster is a scrub killer at lower ranks, but it's functionally unplayable at higher levels. That's why I love it. I need to use awareness, positioning, timing, prediction and brainpower to net kills in high X rank. Playing the Splattershot Jr. at a high level requires good movement, fighting skills and baiting skills. Spamming Splat Bombs is the common strategy but at higher levels, supporting your team through good paint and special placement is key and better for your development as a player than just spamming Trizooka's. Splattershot Nova, the only weapon you mentioned I actually 5 starred. It has so much nuance and skill requirements it's insane. Fighting and beating other shooters, especially Gals is extremely rewarding. The paint output is great for supporting your team and you can actually bully most other weapons by outranging them. I love how mobile it is compared to other mid-long range shooters and it can kill extremely consistently if you're at the perfect range. It IS a garbage weapon, and I agree the dev's vision for it is stupid but I like the weapon for itself. I also like and use both the Undercover and Recycled Brella. They're actually the only brella's I use and am good with. I can singlehandedly bully entire teams by myself with these weapons by just using good movement and sub combos. I'd recomend checking out www.youtube.com/@Atelier_nia. He's the JP brella master and currently uses only recycled and undercover to completely dominate everyone. This is how you're supposed to play these weapons. I don't use Big Swig but it's intended purpose is obvious. Lay down lots of paint on a wide area. It doesn't need a reliable oneshot because you're supposed to use it's range and land multiple shots to kill. That's why it has splash wall and ink storm. Not being able to roll over things is dumb though. I actually agree about the Aerospray and think its playstyle is degenerate and unhealthy for the game. In summation, weak and challenging weapons have their place and I like using them. Which is why the only weapons I've 5 starred are Squiffer/Reef-Lux/Reef-Lux DECO/Tri-Stringer/Inkline Tri-Stringer/Order Stringer/Splattershot Nova and Sploosh O-Matic. I wouldn't drop 3000 hours in this game if every weapon were as braindead as the overtuned splattershot or 52.Gal since steamrolling scrubs in Anarchy is boring and only playing X rank is exhausting.

I agree with some of these, disagree with a lot of others. I feel like your main complaint for a lot of these weapons is that they don't fight well, but I actually think that's good for the game. My main criticism for the game's design is that weapons aren't distinct enough. There should be clear strengths and weaknesses for each weapon that make players have to think about their playstyles. I like the design of weapons like Nova and Big Swig as heavy turfing, chip damage support options, and I think making them better fighters would absolutely ruin their design. I think the designs of the Brellas are good, but they mainly struggle because of how inconsistent their hitboxes are; Recycled should be a consistent 2 shot kill, for example, but when I've played it it's almost always a 3 shot and sometimes a 4+ shot kill because of how slow and inconsistent the pellets are (not to mention the shield STILL doesn't work sometimes). On the other side of the coin, most of good shooters are too good at everything. They have lost their identity, and they are too easy to play and too consistent. That makes players less likely to pick up and practice harder weapons. Easy weapons should be bad, and hard weapons should be good. Aerospray is great design in this regard and I don't think they should buff it. They really should focus on toning back the power of the top tier shooters. My final gripe with weapon design is that weapons should encourage fighting and movement. Jr is terrible in this regard because it just encourages bomb spam, I agree with you on this one. But the other awful offender is E-Liter/Splat Charger. Who tf likes turtling, one shot kills? Get that garbage out of the game. I love the chargers that encourage players to be more aggressive, like Squiffer, Bamboo, and, yes, Goo Toober.

As an Undercover Brella main there are some VERY easy fixes for it. Chiefly, they need to SLIGHTLY increase the range, and increase the shield BUMP damage so it combos with two directs. A very slight increase to the minimum damage while keeping the maximum damage in place would also increase its consistency slightly, but it should only be very minor if done since part of the intended skill curve is that to win your engagements you're supposed to be able to land your directs, much like blasters.

Obviously you can’t make Big Swig's Horizontal a one shot because that will be just a better version of the Dynamo. But yes Big Swig is very pointless and it's clear that the devs didn't know what to do with it

I honestly think swig isn’t poorly designed. It’s a support weapon which it does very well. It doesn’t need the horizontal to one shot. It’s better to use as a combo with the vertical flick. It’s my favorite weapon as I like its ability to hold space, and chip damage to help my team. The vertical is really good for hitting far away opponents and is a good one shot once you learn it. It also has a high object damage making it good against some specials and the rainmaker. I know this is a hot take but the express kit is really good synergy wise for it. Marker allows for a good combo sub, good chip damage, and scanning capabilities. It allows swig to use it as a movement ability which is really nice. Swig likes the scanning ability as you can use the big horizontal flick to hit people scanned behind cover. Storm allows it to keep using its main weapons and the damage combos from storm works well with it and marker. The paint also allows you to hold even more space.

As a Painbrush Main, yeah your concerns/complaints about the weapon are 1000% justified. I love the weapon to pieces since it doesn't feel like I need to mash the trigger and the damage and range itself is neat, but currently, it struggles against too many matchups, the windup like you mentioned, feels unnesesarily long, and there is also the kits. The Nouveau kit just feels like missile spam, and that's been nerfed a while ago and thats all it has going for it and while the location is nice, it doesn't enable the weapon much or at all due to a lack of options (mobility and self sufficiency). The vanilla kit feels a little better, at least having a bomb for mobility but lacks a good special. Wave I'd say isn't bad for the weapon, but its so slow and has barely any impact nowadays when looking at how fast paced everything is in Splat 3. It's so easy to jump over the waves, and that special literally only got 1 buff throughout it's lifespan. It needs buffs and a good 3rd kit. They shoiuld definetly remove 3-8 frames (Hopefully 8) of its windup because there should not be any reason that it takes so long to wind up the swings. You are right, good paint should not feel like the main reason it feels so slow, especially when other weapons have equally/better paint statistically and are more flexible. Maybe add a little more range to it too. Probably biased here, but maybe add 2-3 more units of range (Currently 33/100 range according to Inkipedia, would change to 35-36/100). I feel like it should be the dynamo of brushes, in a sort of way. Also as a small and probably odd buff, give painbrushes roll 40 damage instead of 30 cause I'd love to see one swing into a roll kill. It just feels odd that every other brushes's roll can combo with the swings but painbrushes's doesn't. And then there is the 3rd kit. 5 months ago, Prochara uploaded a video with viewer's custom kit ideas in which someone named Ambrose wanted Painbrush with torpedo and trizooka, and I loved the idea of that kit ever since. It helps cover a lot of weaknesses of the main weapon such as locating enemies safely, fighting against ranged weapons, and gives the weapon better neutral play and I really would like for it to get that kit one day. Even if I would have to wait a whole other game to even get that option.

Big swig could really use burst bomb for a sub to make up for it not being able to kill with its horizontal flick, kind of like carbon roller not being able to kill from a distance.

As someone who somewhat mains recycle brella and has experience with it at a high level of soloq. You’re not entirely wrong. It SHOULD play like a shotgun weapon somewhat but I think for forgot that the whole point of the brella is well… the brella. My idea for a recycle rework/change is to increase the total damage to 95 (and buff splat brella to 90), make each shot take up less ink, but have a unique shield cycling system. My idea is it for it to have 2 shields. To make it less spammy and annoying, have each shield recover every 3.5 seconds at different stop timers each shield. For flaring the shield, keep the recovery time the same if it breaks. Basically with these changes recycle brella will be more unique and have a higher skill ceiling with these changes cycling the shields but also making the shooting part of the weapon feel more consistent and powerful. You could even slap a range buff on it too. If it were to get a third kit, id want splash wall zipcaster. The splashwall could provide and extra layer of protection and the zipcaster would just all around be really fun with a hyper accurate shot gun type weapon. If the wall is too annoying give it like fizzy bomb or auto bomb idk

Clash blaster needs a complete overhaul, it’s not good due to bad damage and range but is annoying to fight and a noob killer due to inexperience. I have a concept of a blaster that has 65% ishhh the fire rate of clash and range similar to range(fitting) but the damage is the same and the gimmick is that the explosion hit box is small but the projectile can pierce so crowd control is still possible (also I can kill people spamming big bubbler or splat wall) but isn’t a point and click adventure game where I think a gimmick with a unique attribute is better than “let’s increase a stat really high” so it becomes a problem later when balancing due to buffing it in any other category would make it too good but compromising the high stat would remove the purpose of the weapon like you stated. I find the charm in f big swig in it’s decent roll speed and massive ink trail so flanking in turf war is hilarious when the enemy team realise half the map behind them is painted which I which a ROLLer would be more about and why the grizzco dynamo roller is a charm Undercover rework. The retirement home. I love the weapon and it’s whole I protect only myself and survive for wayyyy to long where I don’t need to but it’s still sucks and there is not much they can do Idea: increase damage( or smth) every time shield breaks but reset on death with some sort of cap idk, would incentivise surviving but also taking hits Nova shouldn’t exist Aerospray and splattershot jr are like the same thing. Paintbrush more like 23 frame lag brush Bambrella is splat brella’s damage before nurfs. They should just remove the shield so it’s a full on shotgun Gootuber. Who asked. Is irrelevant. I will say no more. I spent more time writing than watching.

Although I think that bambrella just needs to have a better shield and better ink efficiency to be good, your idea is interesting. Making it a 1-shot with bad ink efficiency and a flimsy shield sounds fun. Like my Nova idea, it's a better thing to separate it into 2 weapons. The first being Splat Brella with a launchable shield and the second being this shotgun concept.

I think big swig is fine how it is, if they gave it better horizontal flick damage AGAIN itll just be another annoying spammy weapon like decavitator that just melts through anything with little to no effort. Sure it could have less paint and maybe have a better vertical flick like making the one shot range better. Making weapons EASIER while not addressing the main problems is not a good way to balance things

I'm an Undercover main and do recommend a main of run speed up on it. You just don't want it too fast relative to the fire rate or you end up with gaps in the painting. When I'm in an aggressive mindset I can even successfully run Opening Gambit on it 'cause it's an assist-farming machine.

Tbh i dont think u can balance high paint weapons like nova due to them being just a better splattershot in the end. Weapon roles are there with junior being support which isnt meant to fight but to help with gaining or holding space. Ofc bomb spam isnt healthy but it teaches u that if u cant do much then use ur sub for an example. As for undercover iirc there was a player who kept rank 1 in tc for a pretty long time last season. Its annoying to play against but with the shield regeneration buff its doing fine. (Kinda meant to wall shooters since its the favoured weaoon class so its a skill matchup which u have to figure out by keeping ur distance) The only weapon class i would "nerf" primarly would be splatanas. Just a small range nerf and fixing hitboxes. Way too random if u ask me.

Splatershot junior is a noob weapon that's supposed to teach the basics of the game to newcomers, yet they give it buffs for competition. Aerospray is just a worse Splatershot Jr and they did nothing to differenciate it. Nova should have been the return of Dual Squelsher but it ended up as a different concept. So my idea is to separate it into 2 weapons that has nova's stats as their base; -The first is Nova with slightly better damage and reverse bloom, so you have no RNG after firing for a while. You would be able to fight but it will still be a 5-shot. -The second is basically Dual Squelsher with nova's mobility, so It's a 4-shot with better accuracy. Big Swig is actually a really good main weapon but it suffers from bad kits. Giving it fizzy/cooler would give it perfect synergy both in terms of gameplay and theme. Undercover is the worst designed weapon of splatoon. You can't make a good weapon that has a constant shield without breaking the game. This weapon is just doomed to suck for the greater good of the game, though it can have some buffs to make it feel more powerful. Bambrella just needs to have an actual shield and better ink efficiency. Clash should be reworked into a short-range rapid blaster by having better paint and damage in exchange of a smaller blast radius and a worse firerate. Pain Brush doesn't really have any identity, maybe we can make it into more of a glass cannon. Gootuber would need to have a slightly quicker charge time and a bit more range. It would also be cool to tune it into its mobility by making it light weight, giving it a better strafe speed and letting you use your sub in charge hold.

I don't think Swig needs too many buffs, may be they should make easy to kill with the vertical swig although it's a very support-oriented weapon. What Swig needs it's better kits because marker/inkstorm and wall/vac are💀 About Painbrush, I have been playing the weapon for a month too and, indeed, it's a pain to play. It's so slow and it has no range that you will probably lose 70% of fights. Sometimes I thought I was the problem but after watching your Painbrush's clips, I realise that I do more less the same as you. Kits don't help here too but I see some potencial in curling/wave. It's funny to kill with curling accidentaly though.

for nova, as a buff i would give it an insanely fast fire rate, but as a compensation so it's not OP, nerf the damage to 15 per shot. for goo tuber, you cant buff it because then it's too similar to squiffer. if we get a splatoon 4, the most polite thing to do is retire the weapon and remove it from the game.
