Oh my Cod, I just realized watching this compilation that in Splatoon 1 & 2, Cuttlefish and Marie refers to Calamari Inkantation as "that heavenly melody" and DJ Octavio hates it because it is better than his music, but in Splatoon 3 it is Octavio who says "that heavenly melody" showing he is an absolutely fan of the Squid Sisters. Calamari Inkantation is not actually a song per se from the Squid Sisters althought they sing it. It seems this song was created a long time ago and it was used to stop the wars between Inklings and Octarians/Octolings, since it seems the song kinda pacificates the ones that hear it, making them dance or to not focus and even can unbrainwash people (like Marina in Splatoon 1, as she was part of Octavio's army but got free when she heard the song and Callie in Splatoon 2). That's why Callie and Marie use it against Octavio in Splatoon 1 and 2 (and probably "the heavenly" part is an easter egg as Callie and Marie originaly were designed as Shrine Maidens) but as we saw in Splatoon 3, anyone can sing the song since this time it was Octavio the one how started it, being followed by Squid Sisters and the Clan Surimi. Also it seems is necessary that both Inklings and Octarians/Octolings to sing together Calamari Incantation "to summon the three lights"

While splatoon 1 and splatoon 3 have more climatic final bosses, I think the Octo Expansion final boss has to be my favorite. I just really love the character interactions and seeing Pearl & Marina shine with their own talents is really nice. The little details like Marina's laptop drawings and Peal and Cuttlefishes rapping is just so fun. Octo Expansion has to be the best storymode in my opinion

my personal opinions on each boss: splatoon 1: pretty hard and the mechanics for the boss are great splatoon 2: easy but last part is pretty cool, weird how the rainmaker was never used before that at all though octo expansion: not really a fight, but exciting and anxiety-inducing, ending with pearl was hype splatoon 3: first half was pretty good as a fight, but the dj octavio mega vaccum spaceship giant salmon fighting giant bear thing was by far the most creative ad exciting (imo) also i think that the splatoon 3 cutscenes were the best and were hilarious at times as well

Honestly I think Splatoon 1's final boss was the hardest out of all of the final story bosses. There's so much coming at you, and your available space is running out. The later bosses are less chaotic and more creative imo. EDIT: apparently the final boss gets waaay harder if you upgrade a certain amount. That explains a lot haha! I heard about it in a speed run i watched of splatoon 1 story mode. It's why runners will avoid upgrading

Splatoon 2 story legit just finished out the plot with Callie and Marie as characters. That's why Splatoon 2's story was so lacking until Octo Expansion. Splatoon 1's was the best BOSS. It was canonically a hard challenge and just hard boss due to limited ground and projectiles OE's boss wasn't very hard but did give you that turf war anxiety along with that sweet fly octo fly jame telling you "HURRY OR WE'RE ALL DEAD" Splatoon 3 is an entirely different plot. It has nothing to do with the squid sisters nor the octarians. It's just about saving this world you've grown in and loved. The 3mix even reflects that. So honestly, this story is great. Splatoon 2's base story was just mid as hell until dlc.
