A small tip for new players getting some stuff to sell in their first caves: daggers are actually the best thing to pick up. In qud trade is all about value density, water is 4 drams/$ per pound, iron longswords are $25 for 5 pounds or $5 per pound. Iron daggers are $10 per pound (they will sell for less depending on your ego). You find out what has the most value per pound as you play but daggers are great to pick up early game

@bvddh 2 жыл бұрын
For your first caves I would recommend just picking up almost all equipment. After your first trip you usually want to be able to fill in some gap in your gear like a ranged weapon and have plenty of water left over. It's not like inventory space is very limited that early in the game, you just don't have that much stuff to carry yet.

Another tip would be to do Argyve's quest in the rust part(don't remember the name but it's the one where you get the 200 ft. of wires.) It's a much easier area and you'll get the levels necessary to take on Red Rock. Also, always take 18 toughness.

It’s impressive to see how much this game’s UI has changed, especially in the past year judging by this footage in comparison to Sseth’s video. I was interested in maybe trying this game out, but I wanted to wait until all of the mouse support / new-player friendly features were implemented, as I’ve only started playing true roguelikes recently (started with Tangledeep in 2019), and I’m not a keyboard-only sort of person. Their roadmap on their website has shrunk significantly from when I last checked it out, so I’ll probably just wait for the game’s full release. But great to see an up-to-date video of it.

The keyboard mapping for this game is really beginner friendly, with a handy interact button
@Phirestar
@Phirestar 2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough if you find it better, but I’m not someone who’s accustomed to playing games that way, and I’d prefer being able to have both the mouse and keyboard as an option as the same time. They’re working on adding in full mouse support to the game, so I’ll gladly get into the game once that’s implemented.
@bradishimaru9919
@bradishimaru9919 2 жыл бұрын
@@Phirestar I am the same, I have a laptop so I can't use all of the keyboard commands. Mouse support is fully implemented and has been working fine for a while now, you just need to turn it on in the settings. If you buy it on steam you can return the game if you don't play it for more than 2 hours. And LOL if you can figure out Tangledeep you should have no problem with Qud

It was hard to pull off, I remember spending hours on character creation one time making my favorite esper, who was an amnesiac clarivoyant that created temporal vortexes, portals, blinked around randomly and was constantly pursued by a clone, basically, another version of him from the multiverse... I was just trying to make the most insane character and by Qud, it worked. I tried pulling it off again due to a dead laptop that basically lost my file, but kept having trouble getting it to work right points wise, it was pure minmax... Another fun one is a multiarmed flying monstrosity... Flying is pretty amazing in a game where walking can leave you dead of thirst as you walk the 7 day silt. Exploratory flight or just being able to escape and kite things while zapping them with manipulated mind lasers and mind blasts... Yeah, this game is hard, but damn, it is fun AF. Anyway, idk about it being free now, I got it almost a decade ago or maybe even more now iirc, and yeah, it was somewhere weird and I got it free... Then I picked it up on Steam when that came out there and I haven't seen it free since, but I'm sure the old shareware version may still be available and free and legal. I read the eula at the time and iirc, I think those builds were just open at that early point. 🤔 Then I tried out the mouse compatible stuff and wasn't that into it, and tried some mods, but I just wasn't clicking with everything I had going on so, I've set it down about 2 years now with it winking seductively every update(I'm a trucker and always update manually so I notice ever time, as it breathes greedily in my ear, it's hot breath on my neck sending shivers up and down my... Sry, I was just remembering this time I got really high sniffing my own farts as a Praetorian, implants are the best, that's what she said, after all... Sry, I digress...) but now, and seeing how far the UI has come from that early steam stuff, it's time to fire I up. Best thing about Qud is it is in that "never need to uninstall" class I games. 👌 If you haven't played this, get your shit together. Take all your shit, put it in one place, put it in a backpack or something, but whatever you do, get it together. Get your shit together.

Not any of real-time games like Hades, Dead Cells, or BoI, not weird genre mixups like Peglin or Kainga, but a classic turn-based approach with permadeath and procedural generation. Other examples include ToME4, Cogmind, Elona, HyperRogue, ADOM, DCSS, CDDA, TGGW, IVAN, Rift Wizard, Approaching Infinity, NetHack, and about a million other more obscure titles. I've played a lot of RLs since back before NetHack 3 came out (which pissed me off because I had an 8086 clone, and it required at least a 286 which I could not afford). NH is in a class by itself. CoQ is the best RL that is not Nethack, and it would be hard for me to imagine what a competitor to it would look like. I'd have to go with an obscure one called Omega (from ca. 1990) as it had mulitple career paths including politics, military, gladiator, etc. and had an overland/local map thing going on. It was also brutally hard and just getting out of the city into the overland was harder than getting to the Six Day Stilt in CoQ. Omega also had a lot of the same sense of humor that CoQ has. But yeah. After Nethack, CoQ is el numero dos.

I really wish more youtubers played this game I haven't been able to find any good lets plays of it and you rarely do more than one episode on a game (technically you do more than one but with like a year or more in between).

I’m pretty good at Caves of Qud. I play it often with commentary. I love COQ! 😁 Would you watch me, horsie?

I think it’s all because the UI and gameplay isn’t flashy enough to catch most people’s attention. It’s super sad because Qud is an amazing game

Probably bad take, but I consider Caves of Qud eclipsing the game medium... It's a game, but as an experience it's something... very unique. It's almost got the depth of Dwarf Fortress in it's historical RNG, and although it's main quests is on rail, there's so much "what in the hell is this?" that happens while experiencing it. A final comment on the modding. I adore games that have mods, and even more-so, game devs that actively support and work with the modding community. This game has the possibility to iterate long after most shelf-lifes. It's got a few hundred mods, and now that it is nearing release/out of early access, hopefully the code development stabilizes and amazing quests, stories, mutations and modifications are on the horizon. I first pirated CoQ back in like 2017 and HATED it, and torrented it again around early 2020 (both dumb as the ASCII version is free I believe lol), .... and ... something happened. I suddenly "got it". It became an easy buy, and possibly the strangest/frustrating/enthralling role-playing experience that I have had.

Child of the Hearth comes with Cudgel skills already unlocked and if you take the carbide fists implant in the start then you can punch your enemies to death :D Fists are cudgels in the game. Take some spiked gauntlets to add a bleed effect to each punch :D

I see people throwing out newbie tips so I have one! 6AV is a HUGE breakpoint early game. If you can get 6AV your DV is largely irrelevant(through lvl 10-12 or so), so go ahead and wear those studded-leather armors!

Awesome rogue-like! The best one I played so far for some years now, with more than 300 hours of exploration in the incredibly huge world of Qud.

I have been hearing and knowing the word 'proc' for like 20 years now, without knowing that it actually stands for Programmed Random Occurrence...You learn many things by watching Splat, that's for sure.

The term "proc" isn't limited to RNG. It can also refer to manual activations.

Proc is actually a Power Released on Contact (meaning it's a chance on hit)

Man, I love this game. It is incredibly deep and fun, especially if you play a character with mutations (physical and/or mental mutations).

I've been playing RPGs of various sorts for a decade or two now and only today did I learn that "proc" is actually an acronym. Goes to show you never know what you don't know.

22:55 Splattercat, on his memory making him bad at his job for the 'right' reasons: "Hear me out, hear me out, hear me out! I can hear your eyebrows raising! Just wait a second, I'm gonna explain myself. I'm so excited to record these videos that I get ahead of myself, and I forget to do things ... I don't forget to do them because I don't know about them, I ...." "..... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" Thus, he sort of finished the thought by showing rather than telling. For the record, NOT bad at his job at all, as fortunately a long attention span is not a job requirement. :-)

Do Splat use any kind of UI mods to enhance the game? UI was so different back then..
