Hillbilly RV Repair

Күн бұрын

This customer brought this Splendide stackable washing machine to me because it was leaking a LOT of water in the floor of his RV. I searched and searched for a leak and could only find one place where it was leaking. Watch to find out what I found and how I fixed it.

Kenny, no need to answer all my comments. Most of the time I leave them just for the algorithm and I know how much effort you have to put into the channel. The sign of a good technician in any trade is that they will doggedly chase down a difficult problem rather than just taking the lazy route and returning it to the customer claiming nothing is wrong. Also, $175 doesn't seem all that bad these days and hey, at least you can get it!

Having worked for an insurance investigator, one thing that they first look for, when a plastic valve leaks, is tooth marks from metal pliers on the plastic fitting that should only be hand tightened. So be careful there.

What I like about your videos is there is usually something to learn or maybe a different way to get something accomplished. Sometimes you just need to see the way someone else does something and you are like hmm I never thought doing it that way.

Hard to make people happy. Ive had customers that even if you did the job for free , they would still find something to curse you out for. . People can just be miserable. You just keep doing what you do. Nice work.

You mean to tell me you can't spend 48 hours straight answering 800 comments.... 😂🤣😅, I can only imagine thinking about trying. Keep up the great work and let your videos do the talking. Glad your channel is finally taking off as you've said. You do a great job or explaining and don't edit out things others would. 👍

There was a time 25+ years ago that I did major appliance repair. That's before front load washers we have today. Kenmore, Whirlpool and GE washers had water valves with ports for hot and cold in the same valve body. I always hated that because invariably it was the hot side that failed from getting junk from the water heater and clogging it. The good was the replacement valves were only about $12.00. I've been complaining about inflation since back then!

When I had my channel, I had to do the same thing. After you get so many comments, there's just no way you can answer them all. I must have missed where you ask what we did in our jobs. I worked on everything from shipyard to lawnmowers. I'm what you call a jack of all trades but a master of none. I did that until my first back surgery in 2005. And when no one would hire me because of my back problems. I started my own shop working on outdoor equipment. Did that until my last surgery 4 or 5 years ago. Hurt too bad to stand up all the time. So, I retired at 62. I still get out and work once and a while but not anything like I wish I could. At 67 we are trying to sell out and do a little traveling. That's why I watch you to learn how to work on these new RV's. The last RV we had was in 2005. 50-foot diesel pusher, had to work on it all the time. I'm sticking with towables from now on. You do good honest work and that's why I like to watch you.👍🤠

Nice video. $175 does seem extreme, but I doubt you are the guy who decides what replacement parts cost. I’d guess it’s either been cross threaded or maybe a tiny crack only opens when a hose is tightened. Still way cheaper than a new washing machine, or way, way cheaper than a rotten floor replacement. Plumbing lube wise I’d guess most rubber isn’t natural rubber these days and probably fine with petroleum jelly, but for me personally I’ve found a squeeze tube of plumbing lubricant is just handier and easier to keep from getting it on my hands or whatever.

Ive always suggested with any rv that has a washer in it , spend the money and have a drain pan plumbed in with a drain thru the floor, alot easier to spot a leak under the camper than behind the washer, might spend $500 but the leak can cost you 10× that if its not found in a timely manner

My front load machine also had the hot valve fail, only when filling. Under warranty, got both hot and cold for free.

Wish you were up in this area, i think id like to work with you. You remind me of my father in law who passed away a few years ago. I worked with him for over 20 years at his RV shop/store. Thinking about getting back into that line of work. I miss it. Currently im in airport maintenance and service. Working on baggage conveyor systems and jet bridges. Love your videos.

We were over 101* before noon and eventually reached 114* today here in Phoenix and the monsoon humidity was up as well so it was uncomfortable. But we're used to it and have learned to adapt working habits to be in and then out of it on rotation. Glad you persevered on this washer - I really hope the leaking when installed is behind yourself and the customer. I'm wondering if the water pressure at the RV was possibly too high and forces leakage that you'll never produce at your garage? As always, thanks for the videos, tips and repairs enabling us to DIY or at least converse with the technician on the initial request for his/her service.

My nephew used a wrench to remove a soldered toilet connection. When I opened the wall the 1/2” copper pipe was twisted around itself two times. I don’t know how it never leaked. HD plumbing department asked to keep it for one of their displays.

Ha Ha the keyboard experts strike again. Heaven forbid that field mechanic would use petroleum jelly. I’m convinced these people have spent too much time in the lab and behind the computer screen and not enough time with tools in their hand. 😅
