I dont even usually take the time to comment a review video at all but I just love the structure of Adams reviews. I really appreciate the level of detail and compelling excitement in his voice that drives the pacing and gets you equally eager an anticipation to play a great game that may have not been on your radar before.

It was marred by Ironsides absence. It's my favorite gameplay wise. I remember how they said Chaos Theory offered stealth or run and gun but this one truly offered both. And a bird suit. Ba-gok!

Love the longer format for reviews. It gives more time for the reviewers to put the viewer in their mindset, which makes it easier to understand the final score. Also, if people take the time and watch the whole thing, you learn a lot about which game design elements each reviewer holds in highest regard. I love it, it allows me to try and see if I was in their shoes, would I like the game or not. It's like a thinking thing for thinking.

I remember playing the co-op in this game and in Conviction with my roommate. We're both lifelong gamers that have plenty of experience with stealth games. Eventually we got to the point where we were so in sync, we didn't even have to speak to each other while playing. For instance, if we approached a group of 4 or 5 guards, I would automatically know which ones he was going to take out and which ones I had to shoot. And based on which gadgets he would equip I could figure out what his plan of approach was, and he could do the same based on my actions. It legitimately felt like we were operating like a special ops team, we could clear levels in terrorist hunt without ever getting caught and take out entire patrols in the space of a few seconds. These two games were probably my favorite co-op experiences of all time for just that reason.

The 2 newest splinter cells, conviction and blacklist, will NEVER be as good as the first 3, well i guess 4 if you want to count double agent. Ubisoft should remake splinter cell without the generic easy implementations of marking bad guys. If they made a game even with the same graphics of chaos theory I would buy it for 60 dollars. But instead we get this....modernized, pointless run and gunning basically. Sure the few stealth elements are good. It is a good game, just so far off from the originals which felt so good.
@veegs23
@veegs23 10 жыл бұрын
If you've played this game you would disagree. This has taken all its pluses form previous games and improved it into this game. The stealth mechanics are harder so this game is way more harder than chaos theory and theres even more paths of execution. Gadgets are a bit OP but hey it levels out for teh much harder AI (heavy armoured AI's are bitches).
@portyMD
@portyMD 10 жыл бұрын
the only hard guys were the armored AI, but once you get the skill to take them down its easy. too easy. Plus you can just let the game pop the guys in the head whenever you want pretty much.....:( easy

I personally feel chaos theory and the ones before that are the best, then they added too much stuff to make the game easy, however the game is still awesome but i prefer the original crreepin stealth shit lol

portyMD play the game on perfectionist if u dont want to be able to mark and execute, jeez. also, isnt this game really stealthy already, if u want to play it like that? and yes, u can do the run and gun thingy, but ffs, u can just go for real ghost on perfectionist mode, and boom, its a hard game. by real ghost i do not mean knocking everyone out silently, but to get through the levels without actually touching anyone. idk why u are complaining so much.

@skateordie002 11 жыл бұрын
The voice acting thing feels biased. The voice work is great, just not as good as previous titles. Everything else, I kind of get. I think Conviction's controls were better, from what I've played in Blacklist. And Eric Johnson was fine. It's just that Ironside (Jeez, even his last name is freaking awesome) knocked it out of the park so well, everything feels terrible by comparison.

Splinter cell blacklist tops even chaos theory in my opinion. The splinter cell games always lacked in quality which blacklist has a lot of. Also, for those who complain about mark and execute, THERE IS A PERFECTIONIST difficulty. And it feels just like old splinter cell but way better.

+Palasako Most people hate blacklist because of voice acting and nostalgia.Chaos theory was revolutionary for it's time but you have to move on. Blackilst is a stealth game at it's core.People forget that CT also had an assault mode.Blacklist just improved in all aspects.So many gadgets,weapons,suits to select and the map design is also great.Enemy AI is improved and each type requires different tactics.Shame the game didn't get much recognition.Blacklist isn't flawless but it deserves much more praise.

Not the case, the events in this game take place a few months after the events in Conviction. New voice actor was chosen for a few reasons, two of the biggest Ironside wanted out for personal reasons and one person to do the motion capture, facial capture and voice capture at one time makes things easier later.

How is this made to sound intelligent? This is an easy to understand review. I found it clear, concise and most of all: Straight to the point. At least, for those of us who have English as a first language. English is probably your second language if you find this intellectual English. Intelligent English would be using words like "ubiquitous", "soliterraneous" and "prestidigitation" and other stuff like that. But that's just me.

I think the problem you had Adam with what you believe was inconsistent with hidden take down was, when the enemy is alarmed they are more cautious when on patrol. If you attract some guards will just walk calmly in investigate, where others will pie a corner looking for you thus making your take downs unsuccessful If you stand still and use the right analog stick different options for the A button will pop up making you walking around trying to find the right time to press it unnecessary

Adam I have to ask, me being a big fan of splinter cell chaos theory and the ability in that game to go through the whole game without killing anyone. Is this game style a possibility in the new blacklist or is it like conviction where you are forced into situations where it is eliminate the whole room to proceed.

Agreed. Ubisoft really took a risk making Sam in his 40's in the first game. Now they are kinda paying for it. This should have been either an origin story of how Sam got to be a stealth master, or a brand new character with Johnson's voice with Ironside Sam in Lambert's place.

Putting the jump button back in and taking the execute button out can help alleviate the button problem. Still, more open levels designs and letting you play your way sounds great. Story sounds disappointing, but that's something I can easily overlook if the gameplay is there and done well.

Honestly, what fan of Chaos Theory is actually excited for this? There's no tension (a major draw of the stealth genre) in a game when you can press a single button and empty a room. It looks cheap and feels ridiculous when you can sprint through a room guns blazing (in a stealth game, again) and do just fine.

I got this game free with my GTX 770 and it's really really good. It's my first Splinter Cell game and if it means the rest are going to be the same, and by the way R.I.P Tom Clancy you genius bastard, I'll definitely be getting them. Amazing visuals at least on PC, great customization, level design is perfect, stealth and movement feels natural. You really feel like a badass and a professional. I just finished the game without killing anyone and it felt great. Now going to go through it again Assault style.

Like really if you were a true Splinter Cell fan you would know a lot about this game already. In multiple interviews and gameplays the devs have mentioned that sound and light are a huge factor in this game although not represented on the HUD. I am really liking your comments btw you keep everything true.

This, plus it would make more sense from a story perspective, or so I would think. Is it really a good idea for the leader of Fourth Echelon to be out in the field, where he could easily be killed or captured? Although this series peaked with Chaos Theory, I was still mildly interested in Blacklist. I may pick it up on the cheap next year or something.

well the length depends a lot from play stile and dificulty, if you do ghost only you can find many hidden paths that avoids confrontations and makes the lvls kinda short and fast, making the main campaing 5 hours long, now if you play as panther (kill all enemies by using stealth) the main campaing can be 7 hours long, and also the game has many side missions so it adds other 2 hours on the game play making the game in total 7-10 hours long

Excellent review. I'll be stopping by this site again for sure. SC:Blacklist is my first time doing any SC game. I really liked the missions up to one in particular which, because of its flooding the environment with guards (and inconsistencies), while not being creative enough with solutions, made it a restart hell and ultimately tedious, which no game should ever be. It's a pity because so much of it is fun.

Thanks for addressing the contextuality issue. The Xbox360 has 16 buttons. Why do so many actions need to be filed under the same button? And for a stealth game that brutally punishes for mistakes, why do the contextual actions need to have such wide area prompts that allow unpredictable behavior between several unrelated actions? Why is there no "jump"-button? There should be optional binds for true stealth players who want precise unambiguous actions, and different setups for action-players.

Hi Adam! How do you feel about M. Ironside's replacement E. Johnson as Sam's VA? To me Ironside sold the dark grizzled spy and attached his cold voice to Sam. Ironside survived cancer twice, has had multiple roles in shows/movies, and has been Sam since 02'. I had hoped he would remain as a sort of Lambert. Old and wise in the control room giving orders to the new Splinter Cells that could've been better to intro E. Johnson to the SC series. Thanks for answering if you do,

It looks like the Spy V Mercs footage was from only 1 map. But it looks like that map pushed the spies to be on the ground floor with mercs a lot. Is this a common thing or just something from the chosen footage? I was expecting the return of the complicated and expansive horizontal and vertical maps for spies to exploit. Catwalks, support-beams, railings, airducts and sky roofs.

A review that leads the readers to review the review! I enjoy Adam's reviews, and you can tell he enjoys doing them. Nevertheless, some criticism is warranted. While a strong vocabulary is present and welcome, perhaps he could slow down some and maybe trim some of the fat in the script.

No, they don't need to be trimmed at all. People LIKE Adam's reviews because he treats like adults and not 14 year old kids like most sites/reviews do. I hate 3 minute long reviews because they always leave you asking so many questions. These cover nearly all bases. They [Adam's reviews] are excellent, well thought-out reviews and long may they continue.

Is screen tearing as bad as it looks in all the reviews? During gameplay AND cutscenes?

I think it's sometimes every 1 - 2 years, maybe 3, The Division might come out in 2015 or 2016 from what I'm hearing though.

Co-op is online, and it follow the single player as a sort of side-mission setup.

LOVE Blacklist! I thought it was one of the strongest stories in the Splinter Cell franchise as well as the stealth genre.
