Whether he's pushing E-books or not. Adam Sessler's review are unmatched in terms of content and the communication of an experience. So glad he's still representing gaming culture, I had no idea he was still doing this after X-play.

G4TV was a video game network in the early to mid 2000s. Then in '09 the show 'Cops' started airing a lot on G4 when shows like Cinematech and Cheat with Kristen Holt died off. Then Cheaters came on, then random shows like Quantum Leap and infomercials. Before we knew it Xplay and Attack of the Show were the only video game related shows on the network, and Cops and Cheaters had taken all the air time. People stopped watching because of it, viewership fell, and now G4 is gone. :/

Meh.. I loved GTA 5 a lot. I played it for many hours and replayed it several times (story,etc...) But I still cannot deny that I liked GTA 4 more. GTA 5 is better in every aspect that makes it "fun" but in my opinion, in Story, Characters and Writing, GTA 4 was better. I loved living in Liberty City... Loved sitting in the house sometimes watching TV, watching that stand up comedy show... And then GOING to that comedy show, LIVE with a friend or a girlfriend... Loved taking Roman bowling and talking about what had been happening... Loved playing pool with Jacob and listen to him talking... Giving an important note on life... His life.. Loved taking Brucie in a Heli ride or a boat ride through the shores of Liberty City as he screamed out how rich and "Alpha" we were... Loved taking out Dwayne to a restaurant or whatever... And hear him speak about his shitty times that he lived in prison... And his criminal life before it... Loved having the ability to meet girls online and taking them out hearing their stories and seeing which I liked more... Or just sticking with Kate or Michelle... And of course I loved going out with Packie... Going to a bar, getting piss drunk and hearing him bantering back and forth about how I would be a dead man if I looked at his sister's tits. And its just not your "friends" which you could phone... It's also the e-mails... I was so into them and the whole internet thing that I actually drove to internet cafes to go online... As Alejandra, the girl from the shop would greet me with open arms... I loved also the characters in general... Elizabeta... Johnny... Ray that italian motherfucker who always had some wise crack to give like when he showed the diamonds to Niko and Niko was like "What is this?" and Ray just replies "....My lunch

***** Open world never contradicted any characters... Anywhere... All you do is drive cars, shoot guns and explode shit... If anything it contradicted more in 5 since trevor would never wear expensive clothes and drive luxury cars and Michael as a married man should be home with his family. And in no way is 5's writing any good... I've seen low rent games with budgets NOWHERE near GTA 5's.. Not even a sixth of that huge load of money they spent with much better writing. Writing is about making the game feel real, making the game "feel" even... Making the characters likeable along with all the side characters and your enemies hated. There are moments of course but mostly its just useless lines of script with no thought or feeling or anything... I dont care about Tonya... I don't care about Lamar... uhh.. who else is there
@TheDezembro
@TheDezembro 9 жыл бұрын
***** Then why are the other GTA characters "non-compatible" with the open world? No reason. The characters have always been open to whatever the player wants to do. Good writing to me is what they did in GTA 4. Good writing is making the player care for what he's doing, dislike or even hate his antagonists OR love in certain cases like for example Far Cry... And also like the main characters. Care about what they are doing and what they are doing. Good writing as shown in GTA 4 is the friends Niko had. And family. The emails... The lady from the store, Brucie, Roman, Packie, Jacob, Dwayne, Michelle, Kate, etc... Those people mattered to the player and actually felt good to get in the car and do some side activity shit. And the enemies.. Fantastic... Funny scenes and fucked up scenes... Faustin, I loved that guy... Dimitri.. Holy fuck how much I hate that son of a bitch. The connection with the bikers & the diamonds that later impacts the story (especially if you play the DLC) Moral dilemmas and different outcomes based on choices, Like & Dislike system... The actual NEED of calling friends sometimes for their "special abilities" which would be unlocked at a certain % like level... That shit was awesome and it could have come to GTA V in a much grander scale with 3 different characters, a way bigger city with way more possibilities and way more even more interesting characters. But its like Rockstar fired half the writers and instead spent their money hiring Michael Bay wannabe's to make more explosions. I don't care how well GTA 5 represents our world... Or in this case the world in America's west coast or east coast or wherever the fuck that is... Not the whole world is like that... And the most important thing is to make an interesting world and interaction. And lets face it.. We don't live in a nice age in time... So not only did they give us something we see every day... they gave us something shitty we see every day when they could have given us something awesome like some other mood, some other timeline even. And that's how you turn a "Good game" into an "Amazing game" or even a "Legendary game"... Like for example Red Dead Redemption... Which is the game that should have gotten a sequel instead of GTA...

Putting story, characters and writing aside, I don't know whether they are better in GTA 5 or 4, but I wouldn't have this game any other way, that's for sure! They made a masterpeice, a game which perfectly identifies with the franchise it's part of.

GTAV is such an amazing game, but San Andreas is still my favorite of all the GTA games in the series. If they were to just combine everything great about GTA VC, SA, IV and V, then just put it into one game it would be a masterpiece beyond touching.

If you live in a city with any major game studios check their websites. I live in Toronto and I've done some game testing for ubisoft, all I had to do was go to their website and sign up to be a tester, they put you on a mailing list and notify you when theres need for testers. Ubisoft only pays in gift certificates (usually between 200 and 500 dollars) and sometimes they give you a copy of the game you tested.

Oh ffs. He didn't say anything about Online? I'm wondering whether i should get the game or not. I hear people saying it's great online, and others saying it's boring as hell. No peds appear on the streets, the streets are apparently empty online? There's nothing to do online? I thought GTA IV was pretty fun online with my friends... And if this has a lot more content? I don't see why not? Someone, help me out. GAH!

GTA Online is pretty much like single player. Just like in GTA 4 Online you can create you own character. After you created your character you can have a deathmatch, race, or (has not been added, but will be soon) bank heist with your friends. Yet their are a few flaws… everything in GTA Online is more expensive or about the same price. Also, the main way to earn money is to work for it, or finds some hacker that can give 2 Billion dollars or something. That's the main problem I have with the game. Plus, it sounds like you enjoyed playing with your friend on GTA 4. I'm sure you'll love GTA 5/GTA Online!
@bradhuygo
@bradhuygo 11 жыл бұрын
he shouldn't have rushed his review so early. The online component hadn't even come out and it was still during the hype. Now that the hype is gone and i have done almost everything to do in the game i realize its a great game but doesn't not deserve a 5/5 by any means. The story line is ok but nothing fantastique. The voice acting is amazing and the soundtrack is good. The online is disappointing and dull. After you have done everything there is nothing more to do. It doesn't have the real world feel red dead did. There are no animals, no wind, no fun. A 4/5 is a better rating.
@casmith1998

While I think the game is great, I can honestly say I was quite disappointed with the it as a whole. The story didn't meet my expectations, Franklin feels like half a protagonist and was only used when the plot needed him, Trevor was completely unlikable, as well as Michael. I feel the story should of been focused COMPLETELY on Michael and Trevor's conflict, as well as the heists, instead of the uninteresting FIB plot. There isn't much to do in the game, once you complete the main story and the Strangers and Freaks missions. The mini games that are in the game are incredible. But there should of been more. Once you do everything at least once, you're left with an empty feeling. The map is also disappointing. Rockstar said the map would be bigger than Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption COMBINED. The map barely competes with San Andreas' size. As for the online.... It's very fun, if you play with friends. But that fun only lasts for a short amount of time. Once you get some decent guns, the best apartment and nice vehicles, there really is no point to the online. Like I said, great game. Vastly disappointing.

In terms of story I must disagree. I felt if they focused instead on two characters the game would have been far better. Both Trevor and Michael were well made, but Franklin felt short and it showed. Many of his side characters fell to the way side very fast to the point of being forgotten. Also his missions became the most bland in terms of both game play and story. Also I have a few issues with the online aspects, but this was not gone over in this video so I will not bring them up.

I know right. That one girl that Franklin was in love with only shows up two or three times and Stretch turns into the Garry of GTAV. He fucks you over twice and for some reason everybody just decides not to take care of him until the end despite knowing where to find him at pretty much any time.

lipailong2 I hated Franklin's ex-love. She texts, calls, and comes over your house just to keep telling you, "I'm marrying a lawyer. I'm moving on from this shit. You need to let me go." Like, the fuck bitch? How the hell am I supposed to let you go if you don't stop contacting me every five minutes just to tell me how much more mature you think you are than me just because you're marrying some rich dude to get out of the ghetto.

You can get military aircraft, either buy it or steal it from the base. You can buy earings and necklaces. You can build your strength buy fighting or playing sports, this makes your punches more lethal. Spending time shooting and at the shooting range increases accuracy. More time drifting and pulling off stunts in cars improves your driving abilities.

Not at all. Like other "experts," he's making it up as he goes along, using various allusions to other mediums, techniques and works, which would presume one has something to do with the other. They don't. Listen to his point on GTA's use of three protagonists.@3:35 Where does he get the lung capacity to blow out so much horseshit? He substitutes depth and insight with verbosity, hoping no one will notice... which for the most part, no one does. Also this: "Under the skilled writing of Dan Houser…" That statement, in and of itself, discredits anything he has to say. I now get why people in the industry consider this guy a joke.

studnoth1n sad that this is your first impression of adam sessler. he's a classic video game review by this point, and he may be a little verbose in this specific review (it bothered me a little too), but that doesn't mean he isn't saying anything. the unnecessary extra words just distract from what he's trying to say. either way, he's not a joke and he's easily one of the most trustworthy reviewers out there. i don't trust ign one little bit anymore, and gamespot is just weak.

I always look to Rev3Games for my video game reviews now. I find them very informational and educated. The review also comes from a veteran gamer who knows what he's doing and talking about. Someone who doesn't sound like they are just trying to say what they think the viewers want to hear.

I think more smaller heists will be in the multiplayer but I agree setting up your own heist at free will anytime and setting it up just like the story heists would be allot funner and too be honest I think RockStar didn't really deliver as much as they were saying an example being buying safe houses which you cant do but is said to be in the multiplayer.

You should take better care of your PS3, sounds like it's struggling from abuse or poor ventilation or your HDD needs to be fragmented or reformatted.

play the stockmarket. Save the assassin side quest until you have played the storyline, and then buy stocks in the companies related to the assassin quests with Franklin. you can easily make 300 million on each character that way

Exactly. It's got that epic, large scale feel like GTA 4, but also brings back all the fun, crazy shit from San Andreas. It's essentially the perfect GTA combination. I'm currently on my first heist and I love all the work that goes into it. I'm currently doing the setup missions and it's just mad cool. Taking pictures, planning an approach, strategically picking crew members, and then doing the setups...it's pretty damn crazy. I'm 10 hours in and still haven't even unlocked Trevor yet. Crazy.

I suppose I can see from your point of view (although I still loved everything about it) but another way to view it in a more positive way is that the multiplayer is coming out October 1st which is supposed to have heists you can play out with your friends, freeroam, and if you're big fan of GTA like me, they're also bringing jets back into multiplayer! But That's my POV

What I would have liked to see in Gta 5 is what I call "mini heists". Smaller heists set up by the player at will during Free Roam. Understandably they can be less elaborate and the scores themselves would be smaller. After I done all the story mission heists I was left hungry for more heists to do, and the closest you get to a heist outside of story missions was robbing a 24/7. Considering they put large emphasis on performing heists you think something like this would already be in the game

The controls can be a little confusing at times, but I like the flying controls. Actually far more realistic than previous installments. The banking doesn't automatically adjust back to level, for example. Just like in a real plane.

Why not? It's still a simulation on some level and the basic controls can still be appreciated. Sure, there are no flaps or spoilers, trimming, autopilot, transition altitudes, approach and departure procedures, etc. to worry about, but his statement's accurate. The flight controls are slightly more realistic than previous versions. I don't think he was claiming that because he could fly a plane in GTA V that he now feels he could pilot an actual aircraft.

I can think of several games which have bigger maps than GTA V. Carrier Command (might be the biggest non Space one) and MidWinter, Fuel, Test Drive Unlimited, Daggerfall, etc It doesn't take away from the size or the quality of GTA V of course, as for most great games, it too stands on the shoulders of other great games that came before it.

I can appreciate his vast vocabulary, because I can use context to figure out many of the words I did not know. However, there are plenty of people that found this review "annoying" because there were so many words they could not understand. As usual, Sessler, your review is great and very to-the-point. The only thing(s) I would add is the difference(s) between platforms.

Yes but i do have it, and those thing you just listed are like 5 min long activities and mini games. However i don't think the game is short at all. But its not that much different than the other GTA's. Feels like GTA 4 with the bonuses of San Andreas. I wish the damage was better in vehicles and the choppers and planes for some reason act crazy near land. Other than that great game. REALLY like heists.
