Yayyyy! Such critical information!!! Going to the pdf’s ...and making my very first color wheel. Also making a chart of the colors in each paint kit I’ve bought because I don’t know what’s in them except for the basic colors. But I haven’t been interested because I’m trying to learn to mix paint myself!!! To anyone reading this: A great BINGE WATCHING TO LEARN SOOO MANY THINGS-> in the Playlist “Tips and Tricks for New Artists.” Omg there’s so much information and quick information about everything acrylic & color & brushes etc!

Warm: colors within earth like copper, clay, browns and so on. Cool are colors with no warmth in the like yellow, oranges, peach and so on. They have a video on KZbin with how to tell your skin tone whether warm or cool (smile).

Yes! I frequent a lot of beginner forums where people ask for what paint to begin with, and WITHOUT FAIL somebody always says "just buy your primaries, white and brown" and I just about have a conniption every time because to me this is just going to cause a lot of frustration for a beginner for exactly this reason! Muddy, ugly mixing. Yes, use a limited palette, but I thinking an 8 - 10 split primary is 100% the best fundamental building block for anyone and especially beginners!

My sister is a fan of yours and recommended your channel. I have a watercolour set that I hate because I can't get a "good" orange from it. Orange/peach is my favourite colour and as soon as you listed the colour names I figured out my problem - mixing a warm bias with a cool bias gives me muddled muddy orange. Muah! I love you.

At 6:02 , I saw the cyan color pop out more than the indigo color, plus When you paint, colors like Anthraquinone or French Ultramarine Blues are like, the midnight sky which is cooler than the day sky blue like Cerulean or Phthalo blues ,

Cinnamon, I have to tell you that this is the best explanation of Split Primary Color wheel and warm and cold color bias that I have come across. Now, I have to add that I have only been searching and researching this since January 2015, in various different media. I am an extreme "sock folder" and have to understand the what, why and how of things in order for something to get into my brain. You have done it here for me on this subject. Thank you, thank you!!

Question. So actually all colours do match or is there a rule of which colours do not match together
@TheArtSherpa
@TheArtSherpa 5 жыл бұрын
Clash or match goes like this. If the attribute of Value and Bias are the same they match if they are different they clash. So a Warm purple Top that is dark will clash with a light yellow top that is cool bias. Does that make sense? Read this you will LOVE it insideoutstyleblog.com/2014/02/what-are-clashing-colours.html

I learned this way back in Art School in the mid 1970s, but I'm pretty sure all the professors didn't quite understand it. Some of them might not have understood it at all. But I switched color classes because Frank Cheatham RIP understood color extremely well, and since I was a painting major, I wanted to learn from the master :) This is really good what everybody is learning about the split primaries here. If you don't understand it, as theartsherpa explains, you can't get really knockout colors, except by accident.

I’m passionate about colour theory. Tertiary ALWYS gets taught incorrectly. I adore the way you have shown this visually Cinamon but tertiary is ONLY a tertiary colour when it contains all 3 primary’s. Hence it’s name. 😉 So the only way to get a true tertiary is to mix a primary with the secondary colour that sits opposite to it on the colour wheel. Eg Purple ( red + blue) mixed with yellow creates a tertiary colour. I did a whole video on this too. Colour wheels rarely show tertiary colour correctly sadly hence why most art teachers interpret tertiary incorrectly. You’re right about the issues with colour theory, lots of variations out there 😂😍 You’re a real treasure Cinamon, so thank you for continually making art so exciting for so many. 💖🎨🍷
@TheArtSherpa
@TheArtSherpa 5 жыл бұрын
That is a very different take on tertiary than I have heard or read . This is my understanding of it. One Primary Color mixed with one of its nearest Secondary colors, giving us the in-betweens in the color-wheel. Yellow + Orange = YELLOW/ORANGE Red + Orange = RED/ORANGE Red + Purple = RED/PURPLE Blue + Purple = BLUE/PURPLEBlue + Green = BLUE/GREENYellow + Green = YELLOW/GREEN . I have not personally heard of that take on tertiaries but I am open minded and if you have some sources or color resources you are citing PLEASE feel free to email be support@theartsherpa.com and I will vet them to see how they check out 💜💙

theartsherpa I appreciate your open minded response, 😍 I had a very passionate art tutor at Uni who has written many journals on it. I’ll try and find you a source if they’re still in print but sadly the misconception of what is a tertiary colour has now become so popular that folks now take the misinterpreted theory as factual. I’ve spent too many hours online trying to find it being taught correctly, sadly to no avail. It’s a case of evolution and Chinese whispers as it were where the wrong information becomes factual if told so many times. You inspire me so much, do the reply us hugely appreciated 💜💜💜

In fairness here is some online reading I found to be both drilled in and helpful and explains the school of thinking I am coming from . This matches with what we went over in art school ( as much as one remembers anymore ) so you ca see how it checks out from your perspective This one is a touch techy www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/color13.html#tertiary and in simple but shockingly accurate terms color-wheel-artist.com/primary-colors/ and we have to cite wiki or we were never online right en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tertiary_color and www.worqx.com/color/color_wheel.htm I have textbooks I can also recommend but many are costly so this seemed a good place. I look forward to seeing what your perspective is on color...see little art joke. Well kind of a dad joke.

@@paintandpinotinperth7868 Of course there is always more on color. They keep changing the color wheel as we understand more about art, color and how our eyes subjectively interpret that . If you remember you Art tutors name and they published I may be able to look them up or at least their papers. Its amazing what is out there. Check out the Munsell color website its really the foundation of the color wheel here and there are certainly new ideas popping up every day

theartsherpa And this is simply why you are so wonderful! 😍 I love how you share my passion for colour mixing. Yes you’re right about the ever changing theories. I’ll do what I can to source my d Art tutor. It was an old school London Art college so they were very particular 😂 But most importantly, as long as we keep sharing creativity and ideas the world will be a better place for it 💜💜💜🎨🍷
