Such a fun two weeks of camping, hiking, exploring, and meeting new people!
My parents got our 1967 VW Bus Camper in 1988 and started taking it on road trips around the U.S. But up until this trip, it has been sitting in a field and hasn't been driven in 11 years. After fixing it back up our bus made it from Tennessee to Colorado, to Utah, then back to Tennessee. 8 states, over 4,000 miles, and lots of adventures.

I believe we met in Yellow Stone summer 1996. We were in a 1966 VW Blue American camper / Dormobile still 6V from Georgia. If so nice to see her still running. Y'all have multiplied since then. Hope to do the same road trip with family next summer. Great video. Only way to travel! Peace

I bought a ‘65 split window whe I was in my way home from the service in ‘68. I drove from Vegas to Houston in three weeks. Great time. Took long walks in San Diego and one from Carlsbad Caverns to I10 with a friend. Those busses are magically easy to spend time in.

I dream of taking my bus on a road trip like that, after 38 yrs I'm just starting to venture out with it , but i am thinking of just pointing it west, taking my time and just going! How cool, ain't America great! We live in Alaska with our '58, '69, and '85 Westie's. Road trippin' up in the Last Frontier is a hoot, we get to meet other VW bus-heads from around the world every summer, makes life interesting for sure!

This is awesome. It's pretty incredible to think your family was able to celebrate your bus's 50th birthday like this. Are you and your sister going to learn how to drive it? I'm teaching my soon to be 15 y/o daughter and some of her friends how to drive a stickshift on my '63 and '66 VW bugs. I learned on a '59 bus!

I have a 66 Westy and feel I need to watch this everyday until my magic bus is heading out on the highway ! How fast does your bus like to go ? How come the rear bumper is not a vw part ? My 67 sundial camper likes to go 48 mph and had a similar bumper from 1989...

I drive my 66 Bus 65 MPH. Put my foot on the floor till it reaches that speed. Average 60,000 or 4 years on a rebuild motor. Have a highway flyer now and intend to do 70 MPH when it's all put back together. Will let you know.

@@ICU2HI Cool. My 67 is now running again as of a few weeks ago, and sporting disc brakes. It is parked for winter, but it coming back out and will have a cylinder head temperature gauge..freeway flyer and maybe a 1776 later..but now, we run it..I lost 5 years with a vanagon westy resto
