@YLRaisa The technical piece is my favorite. I am very sure you are selling yourself short. You should talk technical anyway. If you don't know something, I have no doubt you could have people lining up to do a live to discuss. Or you say what you know and let people comment.

Great video Raisa! You literally show that there is a split button on these rigs. I go back to the mid 1970s when there were separate receivers and transmitters like with the Drake C line so operating split was easy. The one way to anger an operator on a DXpedition and the other hams adhering to the split is to talk right over the calling frequency.

It is nice to see your smile again, young lady ;) When I worked with the special callsign fromES, I eve used split in digital modes, because if there is pile up in your freq, you just can't decode anything. For example, In case of working PSK64 I used split up 0.1-0.2.

Thank you Raisa. You're looking as beautiful as always. Thanks for this video. I've only been lucky enough to work split mode once with a DXpedition station. Split mode can have its benefits but for me personally I just prefer to work on one Freq.
@YLRaisa

Yes, it is more convenient to work on one frequency, but there are clear reasons why stations are forced to work in split mode.😀

Very good! Right to the point. Now that we know how to set the TX frequency, here's a more advanced video idea around splits. The DX station will not usually listen on the same frequency. They usually tune up or down +-5KHz or so. Since good DXing is all about listening, you need to try to figure out who the DX station just worked and be sure you are transmitting somewhere close to that frequency. My TS-440 has a button called T-F SET. This is a momentary pushbutton that, when pushed, swaps VFO A and B. That means I can hear the transmit frequency and the tuning know will change the transmit vfo frequency. The pro trick is to listen to a few QSOs and determine which way the DX station is working their way up or down the window they're listening in. Then you position your transmit frequency so you're the next logical station to work. Again...great video, I really enjoy your content.
@YLRaisa

Matt, thanks a lot for the very good comment. I can't figure out what frequency DX is listening to ☺
@mattpujol4787
@mattpujol4787 Жыл бұрын
@@YLRaisa LOL....the trick is when you hear the DX say "WD5ACR?", you have to frantically tune in the DX window trying to find WD5ACR coming back. Then you flip back and forth listening to the QSO and then do it again for the next QSO to get an idea where the DX is tuning. Alternatively, you could just find a semi quiet frequency within the window and just call when the DX says "QRZ?", hoping for the best. I like to sweeten my odds a bit.

Excellent Raisa! Strangely enough, because I don’t really go chasing dxpeditions etc., the first time I tried to operate split or even heard a station operating split was the Irish DXpedition to Antigua yesterday! They called it “5 up”, So this video is very timely for me 😊. I actually was manually flicking from VFO A to VFO B and was operating mobile 😅, so it was really difficult… I must figure out how to do it on the FT891 and do a little video for others like you just did..

Split хорошо использовать при большой разности частот, в т.ч. и диапазонов. Для небольших разностей частот часто используется режим "расстройка" (Rit) и он присутствует в большинстве моделей трансиверов.
