This is seriously the best thing I have ever watched since the expanse. I love the dynamic between you guys. Splitsie is the proactive engineering genius and crack fighter pilot, TFE the witty eccentric optimistic astrophysicist, and underrated combat technician with interesting builds, Capac, the also witty ultimate heavy industry engineer and pilot, and generally pessimistic but with a great sense of ironic humor - not to mention a unique ability to very subtly antagonize Splitsie. At episode 20, I love the fact that I'm only half way through this series! Huge shout out and thanks to Splitsie for his getting started in survival series. I bought the game because of this and now I am currently in space in a large grid ship with an attached miner (based on the miner in this series) in search of uranium and platinum. @ChristopherMocko2 жыл бұрын
After reading your comment I went back and watched the incident frame by frame. The destruction did originate with the virus module. If I had to guess, during the jump, one of the legs clipped into the connector, and eventually jostled enough to realize it needed to explode. Then the bits from the module collided with the O2 Farm and the Ships connector, damaged them enough to transfer damage to the H2 tank, which then exploded.

@@Splitsie Looks to me like it started with the scanner module. It gets lit up, one of the legs seems to vanish, then part of it seems to fall off. But shortly after that the part that fell off is back in position and the detached leg shows up, before it all explodes again, so maybe lag + Clang? (There's lag with the rear antenna dish too later on.) I've had a ship spontaneously explode before, but that was due apparently to vibrations from unlocked hinges/rotors. (Said ship didn't even have to be moving to suddenly explode.) I assume the scanner module's leg hinges were locked.
@darthkarl992 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie Yeah that was weird as hell, the way it propagated i'd say the only normal non-klang cause would be a large debris field running into you at high speed from behind. The explosion's were too spread out in time for a tank detonation and too numerous, (and probably too destructive too), in nature to fit rockets. Klang is the more likely culprit but it still happened in a way that makes absolutely no sense for clang, it didn't propagate from any connectors and kept going after all subgrids where gone. Best klang option i can think of is the whole thing converted to a station after the jump but retained the velocity and momentum and self destructed as the game caught onto each piece being moving when it should be stationery, probably in a sequence of each detonation causing damage to a block nearby which then forced an update calculation. What would trigger it in the first place though i have no idea.
@diazinth2 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie My guess is the creepy crawly you made. It's always the creepy crawly. (In all seriousness, to me it seems like that's where the first boom was. And with the "legs" potentially touching or close to the connector, that makes sense. The reason it didn't happen sooner, might be because of minimal amounts of damage over time, until parts came loose at high speed.)

My theory for parachutes is that they were not symmetrically arranged around the center of gravity of the vessel, and that they opened when the station did not fall in the axis, which caused the Vrille exponential. And my theory for the explosion of the vessel is that the ship has made a leap out of jump in a micro-meteorite. Just a theory.

@Splitsie I think I know what happened to the ship, as I have a theory based on my own two previous experiences. It's something I've taken to calling a "Clang Cascade", and I've only seen it happen immediately after a FTL jump in purely vanilla circumstances, and once more while using the Stargate Mod and doing a "Supergate" jump. My theory, is that one or more of the connected subgrids upon rematerializing doesn't initially behave like a subgrid, and instead acts like a wholly separate grid with it's own physics and space it wants to occupy. The problems start when the system is still considering the location of all the grids upon arrival, and in my observable experience, relative velocity is also a factor. What then happens is either the subgrids can briefly damage connected grids, or they think they're striking wholly separate grids, but the damage behaves like a slow impact into voxel terrain. This results in the damage "advancing" along the connected grid axis, from one end to the other shredding the ship as it goes, radiating out from its point of origin. The only way for the entire grid to not die is to hope that some of the damage cuts off the advancing detonation, confining it to that grid while leaving the remainder intact. Typically, this happens too fast for players to stop it or to even realize what is going on. Not that it matters too much, as we saw in the video that the damage affects players as well, if they are in proximity to the blocks being shredded.
