One thing that could be clarified is that by middle clicking on a conveyor port with a block in hand will add any components needed for said block before adding any missing components into your build planner queue (as shown in the video). Apart from that, thanks for showing me that I can add components for a block to the assembly queue without opening the inventory. I can't believe I never read the tooltip that indicated the shortcut for that.

One tip is mmb on an inventory doesn't seem to work if items are stored in an inventory on a separate connected grid. You have to access the inventory and use the transfer button instead. Also, when there is more than one assembler on a grid, there does not seem to be a way to choose which assembler's build queue to use. Maybe turning off all but one assembler would do it, but I haven't tested this. Great tutorial Splitse!
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I hadn't noticed that limitation with collecting from the inventory but there are so many permutations of things with the build planner it's really difficult to test it all :/ Good point about the assembler too, I guess it encourages the use of cooperative mode for the assemblers so you just need the one that gets the queued items

Good choice splitsie. Im still using easy inventory my self - must make the transition. A good thing to note would be a convenient selection of blocks that gives you all the starting components for all blocks.. eg steel plate, interior plate, construction components, girders. These are the components I tend to load my inventory down with when laying down blocks for a design - and then using BOB or a welding ship to finish the job. Honestly after watching the video I think im still going to stick with easy inventory while its available - it just seems less clunky to me.

Oh one thing I think that might be worth adding is that when you have a lot of components scattered throughout a complex conveyor system things can get weird. You sometimes have to issue multiple middle clicks to draw components from say the connector you're directly tapping and then again to pull more from another container further down the chain that has the rest. I also had an experience the other day while producing a large number of components where it would refuse to pull components that I know were available in a storage container. It has something to do with the way SE issues pull requests from conveyor systems. I've been running into issues like this on a survival server as I scale up my base that has 20 refineries and I don't have a good sorting system so during production with distributed assemblers things can get spread out. I gotta work on that. Exactly how push requests work confuses me a little too as I had an incident last week with my large scale ice mining running out of storage and then gleefully filling up every connector and cargo container on the entire base with ice. I learned how to use sorters real quick after that!

@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
I've experienced similar problems, it seems to not perfectly deal with connected and complex inventories, but as I wasn't able to properly replicate that to find the root cause I wasn't confident to put it in the video, it's worth noting though (which is why I like having these comments so people who want to know more can read them) :)
@GhostOfSnuffles Жыл бұрын
You can plan for an entire ship using build planner. When building a large ship i'll slap down a projector and que up all the materials to make it using build planner by gown down the projectors missing block list. It's so nice to know i have exactly what i need to build a ship before i lay down the first block. It's even more useful when you first start because materials are scarce in the beginning so being able to que up exactly what you want and nothing more or less saves on ingots and energy. Build planner, like airtightness, was one of those features i didn't know the game needed until it was there and now i wonder how i ever managed before without it.

Also note, depending on how you have your conveyors set up, it might take a few clicks to withdraw everything. So if there is an inventory that is smaller than your plan between you and the items your withdrawal will be limited by it's size. Especially likely if you have personal inventory set to 10x but haven't changed other inventory multipliers.
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын

There’s one thing you kind of missed splits, if you have a block in hand and middle mouse a container that has the components needed available it will automatically withdraw everything and remove the block from the build planner allowing you to keep middle mousing with other blocks and adding the components until you run out of room In your inventory. This is particularly helpful with things like planning structures as you can grab the large grid light armour block and quickly fill your inventory with steel plate by rapidly clicking.

can i ask something here, i've seen you can put specific blocks on build queues with this (which is fantastic by the way) but can you say load up a blueprint for something you want to build and then have the build planner go "Right so you need x amount of this block, x amount of this block and so on" or is the system not that "evolved" yet to figure that one out yet.

No, you can't load up blueprint plans, though there is a mod that allows you to order up all the components for a blueprint. I can't recall the name but it was made by Lucas/Meridius IX whose workshop page you should be able to find by searching for the Modular Encounters Spawner :)

Hey @splitsie I have a question maybe you already showed this but I've been having trouble with the planner I make my 8m tall windturbine I make the basic assembler and refinery ports attached I put stuff in the refinery to refine but when I try to que up let's say a container it says x amount of components can't be withdrawn dispute me having the stuff already made so I approach this in another way I've seen players put a survival kit in-between the assembler and refinery and it still works so I try that but still can't withdraw am I doing something wrong
@Splitsie3 жыл бұрын
You'll need to order the assembler to make the components first, so before trying to withdraw the stuff you need use shift+mmb to add them to the assembler's production queue :)

@@Splitsie yeah but I still have issues placing the order once the refinery is built and connected

The Build Planner is a great tool, but it's very annoying that it changes the size of the block you held in hand to large when going to a large port to click MMB. However, it's by far better than getting all the stuff by hand. Again a great video, thank you.

It's something that I think is unlikely to be changed as it would also cause frustration if the grid size didn't change when you're trying to place blocks (at least for people used to the current behaviour)
@mytos14865 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie That's right. Maybe they bring back the 'change block size' binding. Would be a good compromise for me.
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, I completely forgot that we used to have a separate binding for that :P
