FINALLY! Someone that knows how to use a box wedge… Most others let the log drop, it’s too wide, the machine struggles, side pieces turn to mush.

I like the box wedge splitters , they make nice uniform splits and they make kindling at the same time.

Seems like you could speed up the splitting by only turning the block until it was narrow enough to fill the splitting space then let it split full passes taking less pushes to split the whole thing!

I have noticed that a lot of these box splitter types produce a lot of scrap, like yours I counted seven times you the top of the breach and a few around the sides. That amount of wood adds up to wood in the stove. Just working If I’m only one notice it?

Did you make that box wedge yourself? If you did, How much would you charge to make me one? If not. Where did you get it made?

Ive seen a vid today with same style of splitter which has an auto push back on it which drags the log back automatically so no manual handling it just has arms that wrap around the top of the log Just a thought

right on the previous post. get that hook on the ram so it pulls the log back till your done then flip the tail hook up like a fighter jet, jack

Looks to do the job! It would be better if there was a way for the log the retract with the ram.

I've never used a box wedge before. Is there a reason you keep rotating the round to split on the adjacent side, rather than pull it straight back? I'm curious if there is an advantage that I cannot see.

I have the same splitter. That diameter log will often go in an inch or two and then get jammed in the box wedge if you don't rotate it; not enough power to push a solid chunk through all 4 slots on most hardwoods. Smaller diameter logs don't have this issue.

Hey, Jeff, did you build that Box Wedge or is it an Option wedge?
@verty170
@verty170 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Bob. The Timerberwolf TW-7 came with the box wedge. It is bolted to the frame can be replaced with vertical single wedge. Optional 4-way and 6-way wedges can slide onto the vertical wedge. Check some of my other videos to see those wedge set-ups. Timberwolf discontinued this splitter a few years ago. The new owners of Timberwolf have a much improved box wedge splitter call called the Alpha.

nice to see someone using oak to video while splitting,, always see people splitting soft wood and saying " see how good my splitter is",,, heck any splitter can do birch,, fir or maple,, but oak and hickory is the real test

Oak and hickory split far more easily than many "lesser" woods, pal.

Yea, some fir is easy but old growth full of knot ain't. some maple is easy but not when it's 40" across and 24" long.

Hi Timothy. Timberwolf made it when they were in Vermont under old owners. The new owners of Timberwolf have a different version of the box wedge.

Clearly this is a powerful machine but production is slow. Would it not be powerful enough to push the log through a "spiders web" blade in one go?
@Grizzydan
@Grizzydan 7 жыл бұрын
Not likely. It takes a very big motor, pump, and ram to push a 30 inch round through a spider web. Not to mention all the steel required. It's all about the money. It's always about the money. Otherwise we'd all have the big toys.
@johngiannetti.
@johngiannetti. 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely not enough power. It has an available 6-way wedge similar to what you're describing. Most wood worth burning has a lot of trouble making it through, in my experience.

Owning a sawmill, I see logs like this and my mouth waters. I hate seeing this being turned into firewood when there's so many little garbage trees that can't be milled into lumber but would be perfect for firewood. Oh well. No hate from me, just a little..........envy maybe? I don't know.... lol

Not every log is a saw log. Firewood guys don't like nasty knots and garbage wood either.

I'd be happy to sell a few trees like this, but most folks that handle trees this size want to charge you for getting rid of them or pretend they are doing you a favor to clear out your over grown woods.

Nice bit of kit ... but you are having to do way too much work heaving that log about to split it. You are going to be completely done in no time! Does the machine not have a way of retracting the log as it splits it? The Eastonmade is a much better bit of kit!
