@@Back40Firewood I'm running an old WW2 military searchlight converted to a 6 way and another one I fabbed up is from an trash compactor and it has a 1500 lb log lift. My hillbilly ingenuity just took over....but they pump out about 1200 cord a year...😜😜😜

Great video and it helps to have a helper as easy on the eyes as she is👀 The work flow seems to be paying off for a more relaxed work atmosphere. When I get the bundler I'll put up a video. That Wood guy said he's gonna make another video of his soon, his is the one I'm getting.

i like that"take time to smell the wood", wow 42 percent MC our Live Oak is about the same when first split, i have got 3 cords that have been split, stacked and under cover for 4 years, the stack now is 12 to 14" lower in height than it was 4 years ago, a lot of shrinkage, on a Cold winter in Fl. may burn 2 cords, but been the wood hound i am, i have 4 cords on hand, gave away 2 cords last year, i cut a lot of wood for peoples smokers, pecan, oak, and hickory, did have some apple but i used that up. Dan and Amanda Stay safe, have Fun and Stay cool. oh stickers on the way.

That round that was at 42% has been bucked up now for almost 6 months...until split that Oak will really hold on to the moisture. That's interesting with the wood shrinking, I've never really paid attention to any stacks to see if they ever drop in height, might have to put that down as something to watch for....thanks! 👍😀🍻

Man those six way sure make quick work of the perfect rounds. I need to gather up some for a video now lol all I have is big stuff. Some of that looked a little big for the stand but I am assuming you were splitting it for the boiler. Just cut a bunch last night with my cousins MS 311 video should be out tomorrow.

Yeah most all of the Oak is going into my burning supply, except for the smaller limb wood and small splits. That 6 way is a game changer with the right size rounds for sure! Lookin forward to seeing that saw in action!👍😀🍻

Love the channel. Why not put the pallet on the back forks and neatly stack the wood on from the splitter. At least the 1st 3 feet so it would still be stable. Wouldn't it save time/effort/money? Just a thought.

I cut some red oak yesterday, logs that were rejected by the timber cutters 2 years ago. Was surprised at how high the moisture was when I split it. If you think of it in maybe September give us an update on the moisture content of your oak here you split. Just a thought.

Keep a eye on the pine. Might be ready to burn in 30-45 days. The spruce trees that I cut in my yard in May, really burns great right now.

I like your tractor and splitter. I plan on a tractor about the same size you have and my splitter is only a residential. If I was in the market to buy a commercial splitter I would like to have a box wedge. But the six way wedge you have making short work of that oak.

I saw ya sniffin' yer wood there! I can't decide at all what my favorite wood is between hard maple, white or red oak, or hickory or even white ash...to smell that is! Even poplar is good but I guess I don't care for the smell of the soft maples (especially boxelder) or elm or even cottonwood and basswood. Funny how those are the worst woods for firewood also for the most part...maybe I'm bias but I don't think so!

lol...yeah, always have to give a smell. I actually don't mind the Oak smell, I especially like it when it's been split and then a day or 2 later you can still pick it up walking by. I was splitting some Cottonwood a few days ago that was really wet and smelt like a pig barn hahahaha. I do also enjoy splitting Cherry, has a nice aroma but sometimes not very strong.

@@Back40Firewood Wet, green cottonwood definitely does have a distinctive aroma doesn't it? Even more so when you burn it- you know right away by the smell of the smoke, that piece was a bit too green! I liken it to fresh pee. Not stinky, stale, ammonia laden stuff, but fresh. (or did some bastard just whizz on my woodpile?) Red oak to me kinda smells like sour mulch- that fermenty smell. Ash, too, but less so. less mulchy, more sour. Always reminds me of cutting wood with Dad, back in hig school- we cut a lot of ash. both smell nice when burning. I like Birch best for that- it almost smells like incense when burned! Apple, too- I love the smell of that. Maple has more of a harsh smell to the smoke, due to all the sugars in it- but it darn sure burns nice!! Esp Red Maple, that stuff takes off like a rocket when lit. I'll go out of my way to look for it, when I'm out for campfirewood. (it's the least dense of the 3 main kinds, so it burns the fastest.)

Need to look into working smarter not harder and take full advantage of the equipment you have or can augment the equipment you have. A set of bucket forks is anywhere from $100-200 for the basic ones and will let you move 700-1,500lbs pallets so good for any times you buy palatalized things also. A simple 2x4 frame on a pallet or with fork holes and some chicken wire will give you a good cage for drying wood that you can pick up with the tractor and move anywhere then set it on rocks/blocks for it to dry. Simply load the cage at the splitter and never touch the wood again till you sell/bag it as the tractor is doing the heavy lifting for you. With good cages and flat ground you can even stack 2-3 tall to save space and a simple spray paint color code on the cage will tell you when you split the wood from month to year with a few color stripes. When selling the wood if you need to deliver you would be able to put the cage of wood directly into the truck so the first time you touch it from when you loaded into the cage is when you are emptying at the customers house or setting the cage next to a bagging station to prep camp wood or next to the sales structure for packing a section of loose wood.

I picked up a pair for 80 bucks, handles everything my tractor will lift 1400 lbs haven't bent yet. Great for loading the processor with logs.

I've been thinking about the IBC totes and getting a set of forks for the tractor...like you said would really help for moving it around, also make it easy for when I wanna bring some to the shed during the winter.

@@Back40Firewood Just cutting the top off a IBC would see you tossing a jumble of wood inside and it taking longer to dry due to lack of air flow. Just the cage would still need chicken wire to hold in the still jumble of wood unless you climb in to stack. A 2x4 frame with chicken wire you can secure the front flap of wire with washerd screws or a trim strip screwed down to have full access inside the cage as you stack it and opening that flap when you lift the pallet from the back would let you chain it to the tractor to dump when needed.

A cute helper never hurts the eyes... say another four to six inches longer lip on the split end so they don't fall or get away maybe?? Just thinking of the bending over to grab something and then one falls on you... not likely as she is on top of it. Wood is a good income once people know where to go, they keep on coming and prices even in hard times never come down that much as wood you can depend on it the best heat over oil or gas. Electric just isn't heat as you back up to it to get warm when your shivering from outside. Not a requirement or something I wish, just a idea. That and maybe a couple friendly chickens to eat the bugs as the ants and mealworms work their way out. I as a kid loved catching grasshoppers and throwing them into a chicken pen and watch those chickens go crazy catching and eating them!!! Nice little set up and looks like money on the tail end... nice wood but when the real crazy twisty grained wood come through, if they were big enough to make it work, I ran mine through a small bandsaw mill. Thats if it wasn't rotten or punky... I sawed thin wood panels for wains coat and it was pretty. I packaged mine in multiple lengths and that was one foot multiples. Up to four foot long. A cheap label and plastic rap... banding just never worked for me but it worked out to about a good three thousand a cord. I ran a lot of tight knot cedar and some birch into it but not limited to. My label had little pictures of ash and oak, cedar, etc all it a clear satin finish. If I remember right, a bundle would cover a four foot square area and sold for sixty dollars as when I started, not many people wanted it. I was selling it for like less than twenty bucks a bundle. So raised the price and called it closet stock for moth proofing and it sold so fast that I couldn't keep up with it. I only sawed two cords maximum but each cord brought me around thirty five hundred dollars. At a quarter inch thick and run through the little edger I had I really needed a third person but two workers can do it.
