Splitting Audio In Reaper Without Affecting Other Tracks

Happened to me all the time also. Reminds me of a great guy (Larry Jordan, a video professional) repeatedly teaching this principle in his videos: “select something and do something to it.” 😄👍🏻

Actually there is such a thing. go to Optioins>Preferences. then uncheck "If no items are selected, some split/trim/delete actions affect all items at the edit cursor." That way, if you have no track/item selected, and you try to split (S or Shift+S) nothing will happen. Now I wish I'd put that in the video :-). thanks for asking!

Then you can also move the audio inside the object holding alt (or was it command). By this the actual item does not move from anywhere, only the content does.

True. Or you can hit the Escape button to deselect all the other items. But that doesn't correct the fact that there are still slices in all the tracks.

theres a really shitty problem on the new version of reaper. when i split in the middle and try to reposition it, the bit that wasn't split moves with the bit that is split. And thats even when i specifically highlighted the split area. reaper has to fix this asap

I just tried it on the latest version (6.81) and it worked like it always has. This sounds like you have ripple Editing toggled on? Check your toolbar - specifically the icon with a 9-square grid on it. If that is disabled (which I always do by default), then moving moving one item on a track will not move others with it UNLESS both are highlighted/selected.

Any idea on how to revert all these accidental cuts? I made a lot of edits in an item and want to revert to it's original

The first thing I'd do is just undo until I got back to the point where you hadn't made the slices. But if you haven't moved any of the items, and all you want to do is stitch them back together again, you can do that by track and use the Glue Items command. select all the sliced bits you want to glue back together, right click on one of the audio items selected, and you'll see "Glue Items" as an option.
