Splitting Huge Oak Rounds for Firewood Trying New Method

Splitting huge oak rounds with Allwood Musclewood Log Splitter using 2 different wedges. First the 4 way to quarter them up, then the 8 way to finish them. Will this method be more effective than using just an 8 way? Trying to reduce the number of resplits we have to make.

I have tall doors on the back of my trailer also . I riged things up so I could put a 2 by 12 across the back so I could leave the doors open an not have to tip the load up so high . Just an idea but with it set up like that you could back right up to the splitter say 2 ft away . Then you could feed her the rounds as fast as she can pull the trigger . No log lift needed especially on them rounds under 18 in doing it that way .

Thanks Phil, I definitely won’t be tipping it that high again with a load like this. It was way too heavy and dangerous! Round 2 went much better. We flew through the rest of this wood!

Good looking load of Red Oak! Made ok sense to me to quarter them🤷‍♂️ Having help and a log lift to keep the splitter fed makes the difference. I’m not usually in that situation though because I usualy have the biggins noodled down😂 Take care Heath and Rachel 👊🏻🇺🇸

hi there great video , great wood , good splitter . but we need to talk about changing your order of seaquince or stream lining ,i am not there and am very limited facts , if it was possible i know you have a big bucket and table all those big rounds would have rolled right into it from the trailer , and the splits coming off the splitter should have gone right into the totes or something when ever possible , trying to learn you youngsters .i am picking on you , best to all john

Great video. Love how you guys are always thinking outside the box. I was thinking in doing what you you are doing, the spikes on the lift table make it hard to slide down the logs. Maybe you could clamp on a couple pieces of wood that would go above the spikes and be able to slide the pieces down easier. Just a thought.

Nice load of red oak. My wife and I are getting old and can't pick up big stuff any longer. When my grandson is here,[21, 6'3", 200 lbs.] he goes down in the woods with me and picks up the big rounds in my John Deere gator, we bring them up and run it through my 4 way and then my wife and I can finish it in our own time. That is quite a splitter. I have a Timberwolf TW-1

That’s some pretty wood. I like your process but wondered if you could place your allwood table at the end of the splitter and toss the quarters on the table. Then move the splitter beside the table and finish with the 8 way. Eliminate picking them off the ground.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors
@hardworkingmanoutdoors 4 ай бұрын
Thanks, that wouldn’t work though because the table needs to be slid into the log lift and with the quarters on it it would be too heavy. If we had the table there in the first place though we could have tossed them back onto the table.

In this case, you'd be much better off by running a vertical type splitter. Far too much "picking up and putting down" to process a single round in the way it is being displayed here. But if this is the only tool, instead of putting the initial splits on the ground, put them back on the hydrolic lift.
