Look into a handheld pneumatic bander that uses nylon or plastic bailing stock. Might be a good way to bundle your firewood up.

I think I know of a better log splitter you could get. Buy a used Multipress industrial hydraulic press. They're cheap used. Then modify it to cut wood. You'll need a power converter to get 3-phase power but it'll be more robust than the one in this video and it can be used for other things with minimal modification.

That is by far the best design for most people. The only issue I have with what I see is the table height is too low. It needs to be raised up to help prevent your hands and arms from naturally being at the top of the round when the cylinder is moving. Me being 6’4”, that’s even a bigger concern. As I watch you split, your arms and hands are constantly in the most dangerous area, which is at the top of the wood being split. If the table is raised up to where your natural tendency is to grab the wood in the middle it would be much safer to use. Just my opinion and observation. Maybe that’s something that could be adjusted for when ordering one, but probably not. Definitely looks like a well made unit and simple. Congrats

Power-Split told me they can huild them with a higher table height. Apparently it is an unlisted option.

Yep and for a company with a couple decades of experience you'd think they'd know by now the optimum height because that platform is obviously too low IMO.
@earlzathome
@earlzathome 4 ай бұрын
It's a function of height and stability. If you go too high it becomes unstable because you're adding to the size of the log lift (so it still reaches the ground) They made mine 30" high instead of the stock 27" and I'm 6'....it's fine, not hunched over at all.

It is a great splitter, I received mine this week. They'll even custom your table height for a few bucks which basically covers the materials to make the log lift a bit bigger. I went with the electric start too so I could run a small LED light and split if it gets dark...😁 It's not as robust as an Eastonmsde Axis, but it doesnt come with the price tag either.....and you can move it around by hand which is pretty much impossible wirh the Axis.

I am an Industrial Engineer Consultant, still working at 88. My wood splitter is 50 years old. It has a 5 inch Cat cylinder with a HD rod and 3 foot stroke. I replaced the 12 hp Briggs with a Duromax with starter. The gear pump is hooked to a jack shaft with a 4;1 ratio. Hydraulic pumps do not word well over 1200 rpm unless supercharged. The wedge is at the far end and the platen is on the cylinder rod. This means the twist from the wood grain reacts to the frame and not the cylinder. Plus, it is self cleaning. I like your Power Split vertical concept. My experience is to use gravity. You should only have to lift the round once and everything else should be down hill. Having an input and out put table is a plus. It agrees with the many metal fabrication plants I have worked with. My position when splitting is sitting on a cushion and I can roll my rounds (up to 3 foot fir)into the jaws using my shoulders and knees instead of my back. Plus there is storage on input and output which reduces the amount of getting up and handling the wood. A big issue is SAFETY. You are dealing with a force and machine that can easily cut off a finger, arm, leg or a body in two without any warning. The vertical work is concentrated directly in front of the operator who positions the block and initiates the cutting without interference from helpers. The operation configuration is both safer and productive. I agree with your intuition that a smaller machine from a builder of large is better than the reverse. Probably why I believe; Get Smart , Get Trump, he has been dealing with world trade for years. Iguana

Why are they not filtering before it goes through the pump and manifold?? Any rust or debris are going to potentially go through the entire system before being filtered out.

I understand why the table is not adjustable. I went to their website. There's 1/2 or 3/4 steel reinforcing the deck. It will take a LOT of weight and will be stable, not be flimsy. It's also built for for options that need to be really strong. If that's a problem for the tall folks, just build the deck up...fashion a couple of 2 x12s together. @@RockhillfarmYT they are awesome but I bet in a few years the prices come way down when competitors start producing them cheaper. I have a tym t494 with fransgarde sk-950 log grapple. similar design to frostbite but heavier despite being made of hardox. made in Denmark. great fit and finish. about $500 more than frostbite. $23-$2400 as I recall with all brackets. I got to say the fit and finish is a cut above.great for full load or picking that one log u want.ya don't see many vidjas on Fransgard the 950 is for a t574 size machine. the 1400 is for 75-130 hp tractor or skid. the smaller one is way beefier than frostbite.MADE BY VIKINGS I think jswoodhouse or Cummings&Bricker dealers

Everything about that splitter makes sense. The only small negative I see is that the splitting table is 6-8 inches too low. Leaning forward for hours and hours of splitting makes for poor posture and a sore back. Great vid. Thanks!

Everything except the price! What a waste of money…10,500 for that? No thanks.

I’m just north of Topeka. So I’m guessing they have a dealer there? What’s the name of the business. Would like to go check them out.

Have you tried this on hedge? We are in Kansas and prefer hedge (osage orange), which is very dense, as you know. We also use oak and walnut (both hard wood), hackberry (stringy) and locust (all in descending order). We have a hydraulic, gas powered non-commercial grade wood splitter for our own family needs. I have a son considering selling firewood so I am looking at a potential upgrade and found your video. TIA for any help.

I’m also in Kansas. I did a follow up video on hickory because it was the hardest wood I had access to

Did they give you any suggestions for how to raise the machine. If you wanted? How do you like/dislike the height as is?
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 6 ай бұрын
I did not know it when I ordered mine but you can get it made 3 inches taller. The height has not really bothered me but I do think the ideal height would be a little taller.

Very nice, one thing I am 6’1 and that look pretty low to me. So might not be good for your back.
