Hi Kevin! They didn’t make splitters back then. This splitter was made from scratch. The I-beam you see was a cut off from a beam they used to build the local hospital I was born in. The axle was from a car and shortened. The engine was a 1947 Wisconsin. I had to change it out because it was just wore out and parts are $$$. That is why I have decided to keep it. No wonder it is so slow, has a small pump. That's the only thing holding it back. Can't wait to see the splitter you are building.
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 3 жыл бұрын
The splitter had a 4 gallon pump before and now an 8. I am going to have to spend money to make it any better. I’m on the fence. It would definitely sell better if I did? The new splitter project is going on a year. Doing everything as methodically as possible to make it a nice machine for a lot less money than new. We will see if I can achieve that. Thanks for watching! WST
@thefirewooddoctor
@thefirewooddoctor 3 жыл бұрын
@@WSTMike, a faster pump will definitely help it sell! The motor probably can't handle much more than an 11 or 12gpm pump. The Eastonmade 5-11 uses a 6 or 6.5hp engine with an 11gpm pump with a full-cycle time of 10sec out and back. Not a hydraulic systems expert, but the size of the cylinder and pump combo determines the cycle-time.
@thefirewooddoctor
@thefirewooddoctor 3 жыл бұрын
@@WSTMike, an 11gpm 2-stage pump will cost $110-150. Talk to a hydraulic specialist to determine if an 11gpm pump will speed up the cycle time.

@WSTMike
@WSTMike 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, for what I had in my supply. That is the biggest pump I had that would fit the motor bolt pattern. It would need twice the motor and twice the pump to get it up to a decent standard. I had no budget to get it up to today’s standards. I may tell a little bit of the history of the homemade splitter in future videos. The action figures were a playful attempt to take people’s minds from the turtle speed splitter. 🤣 Thanks for watching as always!
