Rotating barrel really helps with the 40SW version. This handgun was designed from the ground up as a 40 back when 40 was more popular than 9.

The PX4 subcompact was my first, very first, firearm. I didn't know how to buy a gun. It shoots snappy, no good for a firsttimer, but very reliable. I never liked it 'till recently. I took the safety off and removed the little tiny ball bearing on the safety pin making it a G decocker only. While I had the thing apart I removed the paint off the extractor, safety/decocker levers, breakdown pin, and the slide lock lever. I also ground the decocker levers flat so they fit flush with the slide. I now have a nice two-tone look to it, and it is very, very unique. Plus the model is now discontinued. It is now my favorite gun. I'm deadly with that thing. I'll never get rid of it.

Perfect timing on this review. I was looking for the sub compact but it got discontented, so I thought I had to stay with a full size Px4, and seek something smaller, but seeing the Px4 carry 2 I am going to go seek it out to handle and try.

I have the sub compact and its my favorite gun. And 13rd mag, and 17rd mag with sleeve which give you plenty to grip. Its a bit heavy but I will never part with it.

I bought my PX4 Compact Carry straight from Langdon Tactical. I absolutely love it and plan on carrying it in the winter. One thing you didn’t mention that you should is the reset on the trigger. It’s the shortest I’ve ever seen. It is so much fun to shoot that you won’t realize how quickly you go through ammo. It’s a beast that will last you forever. They don’t break..

PX4 Subcompact 9mm has been my EDC for about 14 years now. I like the heft and the capacity. I think recoil is mitigated well by it's weight. Having said that, I am considering updating. Thanks for the comparison. It was very helpful. I wonder how well the new version would fit with the old subcompact holsters? Those sold by Beretta are not cheap. I also have the full size PX4 Storm. Love em both.

I've seen through the years allot of people complaining about the PX4 Sub compact for not having a rotating barrel. But there is an extremely good reason for it, the Rotating barrel design is not a very size efficient system. For example, if I take a pistol with conventional tilt barrel that has a 4 inch barrel and compare it to a pistol with a rotating barrel that has a 4 inch barrel, the pistol with the rotating barrel will have more slide length. The PX4 sub compact already has a barrel length of 3 inches, to keep that overall length. With a rotating barrel system, you'll end up with a barrel length of well under 3 inches. Why is barrel length an issue for carry pistols???? The answer is simple, your ammo choices, when you start going into the sub 3.5 inch barrel realm, you really need to start choosing your SD ammo wisely and start looking at ammo optimized for Micro 9's as JHP SD ammo can fail to perform as intended if your velocities are not adequate. So my ending conclusion is, if you carry sub compact and Micro 9 pistols where the barrels are sub 3.5 inches, start thinking wisely about your carry ammo choices as JHP SD ammo's primary function and goal is, to prevent over penetration as you need to account for where your shot ends up. And if you are carrying a sub compact or Micro 9, forget the concept of blind barrier ammo as those ammo's for like Critical Duty 135gr was designed for pistols with a barrel length of 4 inches plus (duty size pistols). Excellent review, really enjoyed this channel so far.

Subcompact is designed for very safe carry, built sturdy for 40 caliber, has a handle that's not too fat or thin (and has backplates - I like the small). There's something to be said in favor of a Browning toggle bolt - those are well proven in the field. Yes, it's heavier than the Glock 27/G26, but a heavier slide is proven in the XD Subcompact (your experiences with it convinced me to get one too). Unfortunately in my state we only get the 4". I would go for subcompact before the compact, although if the compact were "legal" here, I would have started with the middle, "goldilocks" sized one instead of the full size.

One of the main advantages for me is that double action first trigger pull. In my mind it's a much safer option than the typical striker fired triggers. Glock leg is a real thing.

@@berniemadoff7837 You still need to keep safety at the top of your priorities no matter what your experience level is. Especially when you are drawing and holstering your carry gun. Every accident gives the gun control people more ammo to try and strip them from law abiding citizens especially when people blame the gun. That being said the Sig P320 may be an example of where blaming the gun, or at least Sig's quality control in manufacturing, can genuinely be blamed.

IMO trigger pull is a preference thing. The discontinued model is my EDC i have the 9mm one. Its been my EDC for about 10 years. I paid $550 for it brand new when i bought it. I prefer heavier trigger pulls. It makes it feel almost more tactile to me when pulling the trigger. Lighter ones feel weird.

I bought both. I got px4 storm carry 2 because I was fascinated by it and the APX A1 because it was so cheap. Any beretta under $300 is a deal to me. Haven’t fired either yet. I know px4 feels heavy, you’ll never forget it’s there like a Pico. I hate the name though. So long and numbers with words. I guess one guy wanted px4 and the other guy wanted storm so they compromised and kept both then added carry 2, why not just px5?
@richdubbyaАй бұрын
I have both. Well, I have the prior gen compact..... Both worked by LTT... The Sub can be snappy. The secret is to get the bigger mag and grip extension. That extra grip does a ton with accuracy. Both need Talon grips. $15.. No big deal. The Compact Carry has far lighter recoil from the barrel. I just wish they gave the compact a little more grip. Both are awesome. With a trigger job, the Sub can be just as accurate. Surprisingly. But if you gotta buy one? Get the full sized. It's only a 1/2 inch or so bigger than the compact..

The polymer frame pistols first designed around the .40 were generally more durable and trouble-free than 9mms bored out to .40. The M&P 40 was one such pistol that didn’t get a lot of attention for durability problems cause it was designed as a .40 (it was dissed cause of its sometimes lousy trigger). The Beretta 96 and Glocks were examples of how rushing up-chambered 9s into production as .40s resulted in a lot of problems. I never paid much attention to the Beretta PX4s but I might start keeping an eye out for a good deal.
