I'm glad you enjoyed my suggestion! Yeah, modern acapella groups usually have harmonizers as well as a bass and a beatboxer for their rhythm. A completely modern take for acapella that keeps bringing me back to it. This is one of my favorite groups who have such tight harmonies, as well as a phenomenal bass and percussionist. There was a reason i suggested you to wear headphones for this one. If you really want to see the group at their full strength, I'd recommend their version of This is Halloween just to keep things on the Jack and Sally train.

The reason it said subterranean at the end, is because the bass singer Geoff hits that last note using a technique called “Subharmonics”, so it autocorrected lol

Actually, I don't think it's a case of autocorrect, I think it's intentional. You know, because Geoff's voice goes so "low" at that final note that it goes beyond merely singing in a "low" register and becomes "subterranean"...

This was a subharmonic but he can sing an E1 (same note he sung here) 100% in chest voice, too. Subharmonics are used in the case, all because he does a 3+ octave downward slide, but skips the last octave using an E2 pushed to an E1 subharmonic.

VoicePlay have also done What’s This? and This Is Halloween if you wanna react to them as well and I’m guessing you’ve probably not listened to much modern acapella, huh? Coz that’s what this was. These guys, Home Free and Pentatonix are the three most popular groups for modern acapella. VoicePlay do pop songs, a lot of Disney, and more theatrical-type stuff. Home Free do country music. Pentatonix do pop, R&B, hip hop, a bit of electronic as well. Basically the music that makes it to the charts! And all three groups have 5 members each. A bass, a beatboxer, a baritone, a tenor, another tenor/a soprano. For VoicePlay, the bass who sang lead is Geoff (say Jeff). The beatboxer (aka Zero) is Layne. The tall bearded guy is Earl (high tenor). The bald guy is Eli (say like the girl’s name Ellie), also a tenor. The baritone is the African American guy, J None.

Oh wow yeah I am totally out of the loop when it comes to acapella and even modern acapella. Someone from my discord suggested I react to this song because he knew I'm a huge nightmare before christmas fan and then I was just blown away by this version. I recently posted my reaction to their This is Halloween and now i am curios what they did with Whats this and possibly other songs that they have done. Earl : normally does all the high notes he was the one with the beared who recently left the groupe Geoff is the lead singer for this song who is the bass of the groupe Layne is the beatboxer who in this had the glowing nose Eli pronounced L-E was the bold one and the black dude is j-none . They are an amazing groupe with much talent and I hope I can see you react to more

This was actually my 1st experience with a Capella sound. I was so surprised by the base when I heard it because I have never heard someone go that low, but I have since heard that Geoff does go lower then that, lol. I also upgraded to headphones finally as well so myself and viewers of my videos can hear the sound of the music better. Ah of course I picked out him as Zero, I'm a huge Nightmare Before Christmas nerd. Its my all time favorite movie. :)

If you like the beatboxing, check out their Viking Saga, My Mother Told Me, or my latest obsession, Hoist the Colours based on the song at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean 3. You think that bass is low? (And his range at that last bit is unreal). Check out his cover of Misty Mountains Cold from the Hobbit. If you are into gaming, they recently did the theme from HALO. I am not a gamer, but it is pretty impressive. I think that Voice Play's most most iconic attribute is their theatrical approach to all the songs. Even when they are just basically standing singing there's a lot of drama. But they really really stand out when they go the whole bit with costumes and characterization. I'm glad you found them and you were so honest about your reaction reaction I hope you check them out further. ( And I don't know if it matters to you, but I thought I'd mention that they do all of the arrangements, lighting and production which to me just makes it more impressive.) One suggestion: When you were watching the video you were looking one way and the screen was on the other direction. It was really hard for me because I love watching their actions but I also wanted to watch your face and I kept having to go back-and-forth. If you could possibly put the screen on the opposite side , that would really help some of us who like to watch two things at once. Especially with voice play it's important because so much of what they do is enhanced by what we can see on screen.

The low notes are called "subharmonics" they're very rare to be able to pull off and almost sound non-human. That low note at the end, like most, is often written as "subterranean" in captions. then the word he's saying MAN! Hope that helps with any confusion.

FYI: I believe you have the two Oogie Boogie Song titles reversed... The studio is NBC version where as the costumes version is the standard VoicePlay release.

I know NBC is a studio but Nightmare Before Christmas would not fit in my title so I went with that to shorten it. There is no song title reversal. Its just Oogie Boogie Song from the Nightmare before Christmas a Voiceplay cover. Thats what its supposed to be but i had to shorten it so it comes out looking like that. I actually copied their title and just shorted it to fit in my reaction video title. So there is actually no mistake here.

It's for closed captioning for the heart of hearing and you can turn that off and on by tapping on it and putting captions on or captions off.
