The lore in Salazar's throne room mentions that the 2nd Verdugo is referred to as U-3. So it's speculated that it'll somehow transform into a version of that boss in Separate Ways.

6:26. You just need to understand a little more of how the ai works. "Give me distance" is literally that, she runs away from you. If you back her into a corner and then tell her to run away, of course she's going to take the only route available to get away from you which you made to be right in front of you. If you want her to stay behind you in a corner, keep it tight and she'll stick to your back.

6:40 I think expecting Ashley to stay behind when in Loose formation isn't going to work...her AI at that point basically has her wander to a certain distance away, versus Tight formation which has her stay close behind no matter what.

Just finished my first run of RE4make the other night. Standard mode, despite beating the original at least 5 times. I just wanted a fun ride. Even then, it oscillated between breezy and intense at times. They really skimped on the shotgun ammo so I was crafting for that constantly. The Riot Gun is so good. I skipped the magnum and went for TMP. Verdugo was absolutely a sponge in this but I still killed him. Worth it for the satisfaction and I knew I’d recoup the ammo. I agree that Capcom did a remarkable job combining remixed tentpole areas and completely new ones. Very noticeable in the Castle, especially around the Water Room area where they skipped the sewer in favor of the wine cellar and expanded the backtracking. Phenomenal game. Now to do NG Plus.

When you first get to the castle, you can one-shot each of the 4 guys walking through that room and collect their loot when you come around. They won't alert others or even each other.

The bull head enemy reminds me of the Penetrators in Dragon's Dogma. Giant hammer swinging hunks of meat with a bull head. Thankfully they aren't as fast as they are in DD 😂.

I shot the infinite launcher at the zealot who pulls the lever when you're going for the goat head and it hit during the cutscenes and he never got to pull the lever. Things like this are why I love this game

Another example is right after exiting the Village Chief's house and going back to the main village area with the key, you can kill the enemy that appears at the top of the hill when you see him and it'll stop the dogs from appearing in the area after the tower collapses.

Personally disagree with Brad and Huber. After a few playthroughs, I much prefer Standard mode. While I did really enjoy some moments of having only 5-10 bullets left and having to be really careful about what I craft and what I shoot with....I much prefer running through taking things out like an 80s action hero.

Something that really bugged me in hardcore mode was how it can take 2 pistol shots to the head to trigger the kick. It makes close up crowd control that much harder compared to the original when these guys are already more aggressive on the remake version.

One last theory 😝 We see a few of the missing hikers along the way but I don't think we ever come across the one from the opening nor the altar she's sacrificed at (which looks a lot like the one located near the gondolas in the O.G). Wondering if Separate Ways will also cover the gondola area seemingly shut down behind where the villa is located 🤔

The hitchhiker and the sacrificial altar are in the game. During chapter 4 when you are on the lake you can go back to the section at the end of chapter 1 before you find captured Luis. There is a locked door you can now access where you find this whole setup exactly the same as the opening cutscene

My nitpicks: -Leon, never talks about the monsters on the radio. Which seems insane. -Leon confirms that Ashley is in this hostile village in the first 20 minutes of the game. Where is SEAL team 6. I understand that there is 20 minutes of bad weather but you go on for hours past the end of the storm before Mike shows up. -kind of a lot of enemies teleporting behind you even when you’ve scouted in that direction and sees there is no where for them to come from -Documents don’t quite explain why every photo in this village looks like the 1800s even though they are dated the 1980s -Wesker is an idiot in the post credit with Ada -Ada contributes almost nothing -why does the island blow up at the end?

Overall the characters have become more three dimensional. Leon's psychological trauma is a little more evident, Ashley has actually become an endearing figure and Luis came off as more well meaning (his inclusion in the mine section was a great call). Even Ada's concern for Leon is a little clearer. Speaking of, IMO her VA's performance wasn't HORRIBLE but it did sound noticeably off, especially when compared to the rest of the voice cast. The lines in the boat ride scene and the final chapter especially stuck out to me as poorly delivered. Some blame the sound mixing and directions but the fact that what we got is presumably the best audio they recorded and that more assistance/instructions for VA were necessary makes me believe she simply wasn't the best fit for Ada. I think Capcom did a rare miss with the casting there.

I actually love the voice of Ada this time around. Indeed it's kinda off but in a good way. I mean now she sounds kinda indifferent, like only here doing her job, care less what happens around her BUT there are some notes of true Ada under the surface when she is around Leon. Like toned down but still there. It gives more character vibe to her, like this cat aura thing, like she is very fond of her "mouse" she could play her psyco games of truth (+ likeness) but deep down feels the pull to be her real self, to be sincere. That is a good pass of flashing such a difficult character like Ada - not sound over the top or cheesy but quite water like sexy Ada you know nothing about but so fond of her company. :)

Did anyone else feel like the aiming controls were not good? That is my only nitpick,but shooting felt really bad in my opinion which was terrible due to the shooting mini games.

Honestly some of the stuff I've hated was the stun Lock Leon gets into and the less i-frames on higher difficulties your getting a three piece from an old lady and your getting ko like your going a round with prime Mike Tyson the weighty feel is nice though even though I get mangled and stun locked

Professional isn't that much harder than hardcore. I would have expected any RE4 fan to start on hardcore. So it's especially weird to hear about the complaints about the "difficulty spike" on Professional. Especially when you have upgraded weapons and know what to expect. 90% of that was on hardcore.

For me the original RE4 is practically a perfect game, so the remake fell just a little short over all. Again, that's just for me! The remake is still absolutely amazing, but it just goes to show how damn good that first one is that it's still better in a few ways, imo.

How did it fall short for you? Just curious. For me Krauser felt a little underdeveloped. Now they just straight up make him a cult follower. Saddler is just there. And the island section is still not my fave thing but the og island wasn’t either.

@@REChronic54 I think the gunplay in the original is better. Having to wait for the reticle to become smaller was a cool feature in REmake2 with the slow zombies that allowed that, but I think everything having a laser allowing you to focus on very quick precision aiming feels better and makes more sense in a game like 4 that's more action focused. I also like the tone of the original better. The cheesy action dialogue may be iconic for the wrong reasons but they're still iconic. I think Salazar, Saddler, and even Ada work better in that lighter context. In this game I think they come off more realistic, sure, but not as fun or memorable. Hopefully the Separate Ways DLC is happening, because Ada feels almost cut out in this one and her supposed reintroduction to Leon after six years played straight seems very strange.

I do agree about Ada though.

But with the aiming it really felt bad to be missing shots with my Red9 and especially something like the Broken Butterfly. Whiffing magnum shots just had me going "there has to be a better way! 😭" 😄

maybe i'm in the minority on this, but i want them to announce an alternate timeline after this game that does not follow the original 5 and 6. i felt like i rly dropped off after original 5, so i hope it just changes a bunch of things and goes a different way. regardless, this game was absolutely amazing. i'm loving it! thanks for the spoiler mode :)

The village and castle section was the best parts of the game for the most part. The island was slightly better than the original. I was a bit surprised how little of Sadler there was in the game and Ada’s voice actress is pretty bad. Ramon had more personality in the original along with Sadler, but it was a good game that I had somewhat minor issues with.

I feel very much the same. I'm not a big fan of industrial settings in horror games. I think this varies from person to person but for me, the setting has never quite provided the level of ambiance or scares that other settings have, and I felt like the island section wasn't going to change my mind very much in that regard. It was decent. It didn't overstay its welcome. The regenerators being a bit faster definitely took me by surprise... lol.

For the extra effort they put into Luis and Krauser, it seems like they took away from Salazar and Saddler. It's probably impossible for me to not be biased in this case, but the way they talked to Leon a lot more in the original made them better imo. And I prefer the cheesiness, especially when I don't feel like they replaced it with anything nearly as memorable.

I'm not so sure "flirty" is the right word, ateast not in the way people mean it. I think "playful" is better as she is just building a repor with Leon and becoming more comfortable around him. I say this because she actually has moments of care and desire to help unlike in the original. And STILL, all these podcasts and nobody is talking about Ashley saying she wants to be like Leon. Is this dialogue just that easy for everyone to miss? I mean it's right after they remove the parasite and you loot the next room. This is the biggest change to Ashley's character because it shows her affection as admiration, not thirst. I genuinely think the "personal detail" line is meant to be her saying she wants to spend more time and learn from him. Like she wants to continue their adventures. Unlike the original Ashley, the thought of Ashley returning for a reunion with Leon or a team-up with other characters is incredibly exciting, and I think that dialogue is a hint at just that. Ashley is actually a great RE character now. 👏

I am one of those who played RE4 and never even thought about it again. I do like the remake but when RE4 came out I wanted a horror game not a shooter with a brand name slapped on it. I still think remake 2 and 3 and RE7 and village are better. I just don't get why everyone wants to ride RE4's ****

The Resident Evil games have always been designed to be replayed, so I think 4 bringing the action element into it was like peanut butter and chocolate. The more skill based gameplay means that it just gets more satisfying the more you play. And the original at least was a relatively lean game, so most people don't feel any slog until that good ol' island section.

I agree with Huber that the remakes have the best characterization of the entire series. That being said, the characters of 4 are not as well written as 2 and 3. Ada is a definite downgrade from 2 and I'm not even talking about her voice actress. Luis is another issue, in that he still seems way too close to his goofy original persona. He should've had a serious overhaul in the same way that Carlos got with 3. All the lady's man comments get old real fast. The original Carlos was the same way but they improved him to now be imo one of the best male protagonists in the series. At least Ashley has been vastly improved. I guess the plot and tone of RE4 doesn't allow by nature anything as serious or hard hitting as say, the Kendo scene in RE2.

I know that things change for channels and companies we follow. People leave; Kyle, Brandon, Ben. Show get canceled or sunset or even conclude; Top 10s, Tabletop Escapades, Retrospectives, Game Sleuth (even though I do think that it stinks that the channel has almost completely moved away from any scripted content besides reviews, which I am not sure is true to why people started supporting EZA). But it is so disappointing that some traditions get totally abandoned without much of a reason or any real attempt made to keep it around. Huber and Kyle have been doing full playthroughs of horror games (Resident Evil being the primary example) for what has to be a decade now, since GameTrailers. And there is nothing in the works for RE4 Remake? The only thing I have heard on this is from Huber’s stream of RE2 Remake about 2 hours in and it was very dismissive. I don’t see how Kyle not being in town is a reason. RE3 Remake and RE8 were both streamed together and RE8 work really well. I would understand it if Kyle wasn’t still in the industry or still steaming but he does, multiple times a week. It truly bothers me that as all my favorites shows get cancelled and people leave, that we can’t keep something this basic. Huber is going to play RE4 anyway, surely you can get Kyle to show up for a few streams, EZA still does stuff with Kyle. Can you do two streams? One on Kyle’s channel, one on EZA’s channel to make it fair? Something. Seriously, these traditions are important and there is no reason it can’t be done. Also can you please address these things more upfront so we know why? Super frustrating and disappointing.

Don't get me wrong. Re4 Remake is a beautiful game. The gameplay is fun I overall enjoyed the game. But something just bugged me about my first play thru. Sometimes I just feel like I'm "going through the motions" of playing the game. I guess it's because I played it the same way as I play original Re4 and save my money for rocket launchers for the huge boss battles.

I disagree with Huber on every character being an improvement in the remake. Saddler is a noticible step down. In the original game he had way more personality and character. His banter with Leon when he calls you before the U3 fight was great and unique. He toyed with you. And now he's just so boring in presentation even if his motivations are basically the same.
