Furiosa was written at least a decade and a half ago. At one point, Miller planned to film both movies at the same time, releasing Furiosa first and Fury Road (without Mad Max in the title) a year later. The studio eventually nixed this plan. The video game creators had access to both scripts and were told to do what they want within the confines of those two scripts - no major discrepancies allowed.
@Takuat7 ай бұрын
To add to that, there was also meant to be a game by Cory Barlog and George Miller that came out at the same time as the Furiosa anime but like when the anime was scrapped, Barlogs game was also scrapped. The reason Miller is kinda weird about the 2015 game is because they were also given access to the notes for that game as well by WB, which I think Miller wants to develop into a film now (Mad Max: The Wasteland), all without his blessing or permission. The game technically has spoilers for a film that hasn't come out yet.

One of the reps for Avalanche Studios did actually respond to George Miller's comments about the game, basically saying he was kind of a dickhead for saying that when Avalanche was basically jerked around and told to practically scrap their original designs for a linear adventure as opposed to the open world we have now. Avalanche seems rather proud of the game given the circumstances and it's a shame that critics are only now warming up to it as opposed to back in the day, because it seems like that critical reception knocked the chances of a sequel straight off of the table

Tip for game first timers (or even if you've played it before): Tear through the main story, and avoid as many if not all the convoys until you complete it. When you complete that story you'll get access to the Pursuit Special Interceptor, so you can do all the your road battles with the real deal. The Magnum Opus (the car you're building up throughout the game) is also badass and in some ways better than the Interceptor (it's LOADED with weapons and power ups), but all you really need for taking out cars and convoys is the Interceptor. Also, after the main story you get the Road Warrior jacket, as well as his signature double barrel shotgun, and you'll be able to roam through the wasteland and do all the side missions and random encounters everywhere with not just the best armor and gun but also looking awesome with the real Road Warrior gear

It’s even more disappointing when I consider the possibility that George Miller went with the spin off film over “Wasteland” because he possibly couldn’t get the funding he needed for “Wasteland” (which I suspect will be a massive film) and maybe to convince producers to fund his next film he needed this one to be successful. Considering the downgrade in practical visuals in this one, and the battle between the Citadel and Dementus being told through a Timelapse, if feels like some corners had to be cut budgeting wise.

Max killing him off like the game would make sense but then again the timeline is fucked up and the next movie probably won’t come out until the mid 2030’s. Still holding out hope for another Game if not a Mad Max Spin-off Series would be cool, center it around a bounty hunter in the Mad Max World doing odd jobs and bounties exploring more of the world and towns, or just bring back Max for his own Sequel Movie already. So much potential for the Mad Max World.

I agree with much of your take on "Furiosa", "Fury Road" & the fantastic 2015 "Mad Max" game. Miller created a wealth of back stories when creating "Fury Road", much of the back story lore, characters & vehicles were shared with the Avalanche team, hence the villain who was in a very kool mission in the game, including his motorbike. It's no accident that Gastown portrayed in the "Furiosa" movie looks exactly like the Gastown in the game. Even the old El Camino bad guys car that flipped over the top of the new war-rig is a vehicle right out of the game. I pre-ordered "Mad Max" back in the spring of 2013 & was thrilled to finally obtain my game to delve into. My Gamestop even gave me 2 huge double sided cardboard displays from the game, now in my game room. I have over 500 hours in the game, so perhaps I'm biased. I have been fortunate enough to see all 5 of the George Miller's "Mad Max" films on the big screen, which only a super fan can claim!

i am so so glad you’ve decided to cover this topic, you specifically. i rewatched your original video on the game recently as the Furiosa hype has been strong, and i was hoping you’d talk about this because i had been thinking many of the same things. i have already seen the movie twice in the theaters and will likely go back once more before they pull it. i really really enjoyed it, and would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to please do so, even if you’re new to the franchise. going back and replaying the game has only enhanced my enjoyment for Furiosa too. i guess i almost wish that they had held out on the game until now, since Furiosa isn’t even a story about Max at all, and actually feels way more connected to this film in a lot of ways than it did to Fury Road. i won’t spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it, but those that have understand what i mean i’m sure. for some reason i don’t really go back to Fury Road a whole lot, which i’m aware is a crazy thing to say, and again i absolutely loved that film, but Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Max really holds that film back in my opinion. as a fan of the originals, it was so disappointing that he couldn’t come anywhere near Mel Gibson’s level of charisma. i mean he doesn’t even do an Aussie accent. i also think it’s such a shame that the game didn’t get the love that it deserved, and i mean that mainly from a development pov. again, i love the game, but it’s kinda a glitchy nightmare, and the fact that there were never any add ons or DLC was really a shame. i wish they had more car bodies for the Magnum Opus, maybe some Aussie classics like the Holden Monaro or the Valiant Charger (which actually does appear in the game as an enemy vehicle). i also find it odd that it never had motorcycles or big rigs like the movies had become so iconic for. some very strange decisions were made for that game, but all things considered i think it came out pretty well, and truly does stand on its own two feet as the definitive Mad Max game.

I kept looking for the Buzzards too. Fingers crossed for more Mad Max wasteland action. And another game too please.

The game is great especially for a first try game It has potential for a whole gaming franchise - more vehicles like bikes and trucks - create your own character - more weapons not just 1 snipers and 1 shotgun - carjacking mid drive - waaaaay more clothes / gear Etc..

I like that I just watched the Mad Max video not long before this upload and after watching Furiosa I'm seated once again for Jake Baldino on more Mad Max stuff.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare furiosa to fury road They’re two different types of action movies set in the same universe No one character in fury road put on as fantastical performance as Chris hemsworth did in furiousa

I have a greater appreciation for a lot of these movie tie-in hidden gems. Playing RoboCop this year kind of showed me just how much It can add to a franchised game when the developers actually care about that franchise and put a lot of love and attention into it. When it nails the atmosphere that you imagine would be attached to it, that can make up for what can be It got me to play through their Terminator game too which I'm thoroughly enjoying despite their still being some generic and sometimes subpar gameplay But that mad Max game is awesome. It's kind of the same thing, I felt like anytime you were on foot and shooting felt a little clunky. But the fighting could be fun even if it still felt like another game at the time trying to do its own spin on the Arkham formula. But they nailed just driving around the desert in an old muscle car, and they nailed the downright wacky and thrilling atmosphere of that world

Fully agree with your views. I was actually HYPED to see Furiosa, because like you I totally LOVED Fury Road and so watching Furiosa I felt let down. The mystique was missing, much more CGI (or at least visible), the iconic scenes and drive were missing. And the story...is just so BLAND! It's a basic revenge story. Apparently, at some point, they thought about making an Anime on this story, akin to Animatrix, which would be much more fitting.

Initially skipped out on the game but after rewatching the Mad Max movies (and reading the comic) in anticipation for Furiosa I grabbed it and I can't wait to dive in and see how they do things differently between that movie and the game and just to exist in the Wasteland

It’s insane to me that Miller asked the guy who caused the Mad Max game to flop to make a new Mad Max game.

Mad Max the game is disgustingly underrated. Only area of the game that I’m not as big on is parts of the story but gameplay and world wise it’s awesome and so much fun.

Great review-really sucks that people slept on this movie. When we see a song from the 2000s that was slept on, we’d say, “aw man this song is so good, it was slept on”-that is whats happening with this piece of art/media. Not Fury Road(honestly so hard to top but) but not trying to be-it’s great at what it’s trying to do. And what I love is that you give some love to another ‘slept on’ title/media, which is The Mad Max video game from the same year as Fury Road, it’s a great little game that ties into the world. It gives background lore on the universe and has great characters and shows what Max has gone through to make him the way he is. The combat is insane, taken a page from The Arkham series of games and it did great while making it it’s own because while Max is badass, he wouldn’t be as flexible as Batman haha-The creativity/ability to customize your car and character/skills honestly rivals the big Rockstar Games and I love R*-I’d remember coming home from Football practice back in 2018 to replay it and this game literally made me stay up and play it even after I was tired from practice🤣🤘🔥Again, great review, Sir-Will subscribe, also the late 2000s were called the ‘aughts’😉🔥

I was definitely thinking about the game the whole time through the movie and thinking how cool this movie would be as a game. I have seen furiosa twice now, considering seeing it again before it leaves theaters because I know we won’t get another movie like it for a while.

Fury Road was like a shot of adrenaline from start to finish. I Left the theatre feeling hype as hell. The Mad Max game carried that feeling over really well. Especially with the Series X fps boost

I *really* enjoyed Furiosa, and I think a lot of it was being back in the world of Fury Road. And a lot of *that* enjoyment came from the many hours I spent in the Mad Max game. While the gameplay was fun, the design elements and worldbuilding were for me the strongest parts of the game. Original, consistent and immersive. So seeing those same elements in Furiosa again really integrated the film into that same world - much bigger than what was seen in the film itself. t all felt part of the same whole (although I know the game isn't canon).

Furiosa begins to make a lot more sense to when you learn it was originally intended to release as an anime alongside the Mad Max game and Fury Road, similar to how the Matrix sequels had a game and the Animatrix all come out at the same time. I think it contextualizes the movie Furiosa in a really interesting light, knowing that it was always intended to exist and not just some cashed in prequel to explain everything that was unexplained in Fury Road makes it feel a lot cooler in my eyes. Hopefully we get Mad Max: The Wasteland!

I could have sworn that I heard like the exact sound effects from the video game in the movie like a couple of the background war boy camp noises and then also the cars sound identical and look identical. Especially the like flatbedded hot rod ones that were driving beside the shiny new war rig ... They also had The oil convoy routes that are like black and everything .. And not even to mention the V8 pursuit. Kind of looking like one of the Magnum opuses. The only thing that the movie was missing was Chum bucket
