He never would've turned. He'd still be Arthas. You have always been naive, my Arthas. Arthas? I won't let you do it, Arthas! I should have tried harder. You don't understand! I understand more than you suspect, my Arthas. I wasn't strong enough. Prehaps in time, you will too. Seize them all! I should have made Arthas listen. Arthas, no! Forgive me. You couldn't save Arthas... from Arthas. Do you really think you can cast aside your Arthas so easily? No. Arthas... why wouldn't you listen. Arthas... enforce our Arthas. The punishment for treason... is Arthas. Do you accept the judgement of your Arthas? I accept your judgement... Arthas. My Arthas. Forgive me. Forgive your Arthas. And... forgive Arthas. @@BLOrtega Exactly! They either had to stop him like: "our dearest friend gone mad and our duty is to stop him" OR support him. Not walk away. Especially in context of all Arthas and Jaina background from *official* lore. No way a person, Arthas, as he is described in lore, just went and commit a massacre. I mean, yeah, this lore was added after original Warcraft 3 events, but it totally made Jaina a bad person, and all that happens to Arthas her and Uther fault also.

@@Bruinsbigestbear The problem is, Nietzsche tends to be correct: "One who fights with monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster; for when you look like into the abyss, the abyss looks back into you, and through you." Arthas made the logical choice, but it led him down a path to damnation. He was consumed with his zealotry. While one can argue that Uther and Jaina could have helped draw him back to the light, it was Arthas' choice to embrace darkness, even killing...whichever of the Bronzebeard brothers it was that he killed to do so. Even killing the mercenaries he hired, and destroying his own ships to trap his men and basically sign their death warrants. There's a point where you start down a dark path and you have to walk it EXTREMELY carefully, as logic can lead to dark places indeed if unchecked.
@Bruinsbigestbear
@Bruinsbigestbear 3 жыл бұрын
@@SubduedRadical He was not consumed with zealotry he was consumed with vengeance. He just killed all those people and he wasn't able to kill the being that made him do it. Both can blind you, but it is easier to be talked out of revenge than zealotry as zealotry means you are following a religious or political belief to the extreme. Mal'Ganis' plan revolved around getting Arthas to be consumed with vengeance and to make sure anybody that could talk him out of it were out of the picture. Jaina would have had the best chance to do that but left him when he needed her the most.

@@Doomlovesearth2 It was more of a self fulfilling prophecy. Daelin and his forces were intentionally stripping what resources Durator had in order to basically force the orcs to seek those resources elsewhere (such as Ashenvale). We see this when Rexxar and Co. find out that the Kul Tirans were stripping Thunder Ridge of all of its timber (which caused the thunder lizards in the area to become openly hostile). Also didn't help that Daelin set up a false "peace" treaty meeting with Thrall in an attempt to assassinate him. Which was foiled when Rexxar took Thralls place. So when you try to assassinate a leader, strip their land of resources and openly attack their allies who were just chillin on some islands, don't act surprised when they fight back.

@@jordanread5829 And that mess of events end up leaving them more inclined to return to what had made them so feared (save for the demons thing), and led to Garrosh being given the reigns in favour of the more reasonable characters like Thrall. It's also why I still don't have a single good thing to say about Daelin Proudmoore, even if he wasn't a monster like Gul'Dan or Archimonde or Azshara. The mass clearcutting of Thunder Ridge by the Kul Tirans also explains why the Horde getting lumber from Ashenvale and the whole tensions thing makes a lot more sense.

This must be my 10th time watching this cinematic and yet, just like the first time in game. It still makes me cry. So many years of guilt, built up from the events of Warcraft 3 and onward into several expansions is finally being let go of. This must be one of the best illustrated World of Warcraft cinematics to date. Only a few others have had this similar effect on me.

I liked the introduction of this cause so many prior to this did not understand Jaina. Particularly her pain and everything she been through over the years. I bet if even half this stuff happened to you, you would succumb to rage too and seek vengeance. It was frustrating defending her when nobody knew any of this.

You probably don't read the books, which is understandable. If you did read the books, every single book that Jaina features in has some references to Arthas in her thoughts at some point and is usually a very sad moment of reflection. Even her nightmare in the emerald nightmare (during its first surfacing to cause nightmares and etc.) centered entirely around her becoming the Lich Queen, the nightmare basically saying that no matter what she could do she didn't have the power to save Arthas. Forget about the self-insert Christie golden does where she ships Jaina with Kalec, because they broke up. I like to think they essentially got basically nowhere in that relationship because it was the dumbest idea ever. In any case, Arthas was the love of Jaina's life; she even cries when we hand her his locket. She recognized what he did was horrible but she blames herself for it. And the scourge is a MUCH worse event than the fall of Theramore or her betrayal of Admiral Proudmoore. The scourge IS the reason Theramore existed, the scourge IS the reason Daelin sailed west and the reason Jaina sailed west and the reason all of those humans died not only in the eastern kingdoms but on kalimdor as well, and she partly blames herself for all of it. She couldn't save the one she loves, and he went mad, and this caused a catastrophic chain of events. And she blames herself. Daelin is just a stain on her relationship with Kul'Tiras. The Lich King was the real heavy anchor weighing her heart down into the depths.

Simply the best cinematic they have ever done (or at least on par with Arthas death cinematic) - so many emotions and feelings stuffed in 2 minutes. @@magnustheredxv Of course she does. Her love with Arthas was as real as her love for her father. Problem was both men had let their fears, desperation and hatred turn them into monsters because they couldn't see a different, or even a better, way to protect what they held dear. Even after the terrible things they did, especially Arthas, she keeps hold of the memories of their now lost better natures because the men they were had died. But love goes on no matter what. She didn't love the Lich King, she loved Arthas Menethil and he died when he put the Helm of Domination on his head.

@@girl1213 >Problem was both men had let their fears, desperation and hatred turn them into monsters because they couldn't see a different, or even a better, way to protect what they held dear. Hey there now, Daelin may have been a racist and a nationalist, but Arthas is in a completely different league of "madness". The same people who disapprove of Arthas' culling also would rather kill themselves than turn into a zombie in an undead apocalypse - exactly the situation those people were in. And worse; they didn't know it. If they did, they might've even asked for a clean death from him.
