StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is a planned stand alone expansion pack to the military science fiction real-time strategy game StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, and the third part of the StarCraft II trilogy developed by Blizzard Entertainment.
The expansion will include additional units and multiplayer changes from Wings of Liberty, as well as a continuing campaign focusing on the Protoss species. It will span approximately 50 missions and will be priced as a standalone title. The campaign will focus on Artanis as its main character.[3] Blizzard launched invite-only beta testing of the game on March 31, 2015.
The single player campaign will contain elements of diplomacy. The player will work with different Protoss tribes which will help them gain allies and advance the plot, but at the same time making them enemies with other tribes. Using units from one side may preclude using units from the other side, and alienating one or another sect may cut the player off from part of the campaign. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to unite the various tribes in o a viable, unified force that can ensure the Protoss' survival.As in the previous two games, which focused on Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan respectively, the campaign will have a central character, which will be Artanis.
The single player part of the expansion will focus on the Protoss race. The creature Amon will be the primary antagonist of the story. Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan will play smaller parts in the story as well.
Chris Metzen has likened the story to that of the film 300, with a small force engaging a much more powerful one in a desperate last stand. The storyline will conclude the StarCraft II trilogy.

For those of you confused, it is inferred that the Xel'Naga take on various forms in each cycle. The Cthulu-esque form is but one of the many iterations taken by the Xel'Naga during their cycles when purity of form and essence are brought together. This explains why Kerrigan's appearance as a Xel'Naga differs so greatly from that of Ouros.

Is it just me, who was waiting for a fourth race, -the Hybrid? It's a nice "fairytaile storyline", but damn it's a short ending... I was waiting somehow a more harsh, darker storyline, where Artanis would stop Amon from completing hes evil plan, but this would be the start of a confrontation and the epic overmezzo to the New Star Craft 3...

+Szabi ESz It wasn't perfect and by all means some were really cliches in terms of story but it was a good close out to the series. That last picture of regrowth could be a hint/teaser for the future but if it ended here then it's fine, at least Raynor and Sarah got together in the end(at least I hope so and it's not just raynor having a hallucination). It's gonna be at least another decade before they make another one if they decided on it and by that time most of us would be a bit ancient. hahaha

Akira Neir That is one of the popular theory, that Kerrigan is atoning for her sins and going around and giving life to compensate for the things she has done. Maybe Raynor is with her as well watching her do all those things, or she could be hiding with him in the koprolu sector, who knows. Unless Blizzard clarifies anything it's still up for grabs. But they did say that the characters in this starcraft is done and if they decide on another one it'll be a story about another set of characters.

I dont mind the ending like things are restored. but I prefer an ending where okay we the good guys won but at a really really big cost and see flash backs of how many died in this journey, but with a little sign of hope at the end of better days to come even though it will be a very long time. also, I felt like SC I and Broodwar is way more dark than SC II and the story in SC II played out more like a cheesy Disney cartoony movie and there is no dark wtf surprises that SC I and BW has.

Blizzard definitely has drawn inspiration from Lovecraft. Those Xel'Naga are very much inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos. Also, the old gods from the WoW universe are also based on outer gods and ancient ones.

+D2attemp Well, he unintentionally revealed the location of Aiur (Pretty enormous blunder, accident or no), and he killed the Matriach of Shakuras so that she wouldn't live as a slave of Kerrigan's. Then he disappeared to do his own thing, trying to discover the truth behind the prophecy and how to stop Amon. Many Templar seemed to hold him in high esteem, as seen the WoL missions as well as the Prologue ones. However some Templar are very stubborn, like Selendis, and could not forgive him for all that he did. His actions didn't yield any immediate merit, so it'd be hard for anyone to trust him unless they knew his character well, like Artanis or Jim. That's my best attempt at explaining it at least.

I agree that they definitely SHOULD be thankful, but they can't view the events from a bird's eye view like we do. I wonder if the Khala makes it easier for them all to hold a grudge haha.

Well actually all dark Templar were seen as traitors because they rejected the Khala. There was also a war between the two and because of this, they were easily anhialated by the zerg. If you read the lore on the aeon of strife it explains this conflict. The person who brought the khala was thought to be xel Naga but it's pretty awesome that it was amon the entire time. CONSPIRACY

I felt Duran (or Narud) was forced into the game to let the fans of Brood Wars know exactly what happened to him. He was never mentioned until the end of this game which I feel disappointed about. The guy turned from an infested human in Brood Wars into some deformed creature name Narud in this game. How did he transform himself? A big gap in the story. Maybe DLCs may reveal it. ALso I was hoping the final game of this sequel would have Duran as the main villain since he was the one who created the hybrids and started this new war. Instead, it was some old "god" name Amon which was new the SC story. Tessadar was a let down on how they used this character. Overall, I am okay with the game but I thought Blizzard could have done a better job with the story. Love how Raynor finally got his girl back in human form (Although she's a xel'tega now) though.

He's always been a xel'naga shapeshifter; he just hid behind different identities in different parts of the lore. There's absolutely zero gap here. And lol seriously? Amon's "new" to the story? Duran hinted he was Amon's servant way back in Brood War. Even if you didn't get the hint back then you should've clicked in Wings when Zeratul hunted the Ulaan's Prophecy. And hell, I can't even count how many times Amon's name was mentioned in Heart. Amon isn't new; your comprehension skills are just low.

+Jo Wats The whole LOV storyline was made with ton of references to the Brood War expansion, and actually blizzard tried to fix their mistakes (tassadar being alive, killing fenix too son, duran being narud never fully explained), at least they tried, and to be honest I quiet enjoyed every single moment. It could be better, yes, but it was good enough for me. That was the happy ending I wanted to see since the end of the brood war 15 years ago in my opinion :). PD. Sorry for my bad english btw.

From someone that is not big into starcraft but played StarCraft and 2 they are pretty similar in quality. That could be that I didn't understand or care for the finer points? Maybe I wouldn't doubt it. The fact that StarCraft sold twice as much as StarCraft 2 is probably some evidence to the drop in quality though. I would blame that with the changing times, now a days visual spectacle is really really important, you can't really market a game based on story quality where as in the past having a story at all was a major selling point. Above all else I think the main issue is that the story telling method shifted. I don't think it is just that StarCraft 2's story is worse, it is just a different type and the people that liked StarCraft's story didn't like StarCraft 2's.

I think Artanis counts as a little bit of both by the end. Vorazun considers him a dark templar, but he's still clearly capable of using the energies of the high templar. So... Tassadar all over again? Except with fewer intact nerve cords.

Well, anybody who have played the first two installments of SC2 will know that this plot is generic stuff, but you will only get to experience the true emotion of this whole shit after spending the time playing the campaign. Even if you spoil yourself watching this video, it is not going to make much of a difference.
