I tweeted Brix about this and she said it's a Simon Rogers riff that she had to learn. She loved playing it live.

All praise be to Mark E. Smith. Was sad to see him go last year. I guess a steady diet of lager and speed for 40 years takes its toll eventually. Thanks for this! This was the first Fall album I bought and it remains one of my favorites. Definitely the peak of their bizarro pop/Brix period.

nice one. The Fall are my favourite group, would like to learn more of their songs.

Really need to get into the Fall. One of those post punk bands that have been well known for being challenging. I should take the time to listen deeply. Also can you please do another dinosaur jr track? Maybe Little Fury Things or Freak Scene. Love your content!

From reading Steve Hanley's book, Craig Scanlon's parts are the bits that sound weird, and Brix Smith's parts are the bits that sound like the Stooges. Would love to see someone work out the nuances of Hilary on Extricate. Seems to be messing about with F major but not sure of the details.

Cheers one of my fave Fall tracks! Only Fall I can play is the riff for Cruisers Creek . Will have a go at learning this.

Thanks a lot ! One of my favourite riffs and I never thought someone would decipher it as well as you did. I'll play a much less approximate version from now on ! I knew you already through "Plastic Factory" but will come on this channel much more often !

I remember Brix playing the riff at gigs that I saw. My (admittedly dodgy) memory is of her using a big white semi-acoustic guitar for songs from that album (the guitar seemed almost as big as she was). I thought it was a Gretsch Electromatic, but looking at pictures and videos from the time it may have been a Rickenbacker 330. (I remember she changed to a strat for songs from other albums).

This is defo a Simon Rogers riff, The Fall's most commercially viable period coincided with having Rogers in the band - he was a classicly trained multi instrumentalist as opposed to the rough diamonds of Hanley and Scanlon who had taught themselves how to be musicians after joining the Fall as youngsters.

I never made a good connection with The Fall. I have a few of their albums and thought they were okay. Perhaps I should give them another listen, I thought these guitar bits were clever in this song. I've always wondered how you pick which one of your guitars to use for your song tutorial videos? Some are obvious like using the Jazzmaster for Television or Dinosaur Jr..
