Im extremely proud to Speak Nahuatl. My parents are from the state of Guerrero and both speak Nahuatl. Nahuatl is mostly spoken by the elderly people such as my grandmother. Its an honor to speak 3 languages. Its puts a smile on my face when someone wants to learn this language since this language is fading away.

@@guyp9596 tired of hearing this the Mexica did alot more then sacrifice. the Nahuas had a more accurate calendar and time system much longer before the Europeans did with advanced irrigation systems for farming with hundreds of developed languages my Ancestors were highly skilled engineers who understood the stars and the galaxy before any European did who built the largest empire in Mesoamerica they had schools for children and had a very good economic system going and could even preform some surgeries stop labeling my ancestors as sacrificial barbarians people sacrificed in barbaric ways for your Christ God in the same way along with many others for their Gods the world you live in today wouldnt be possible without Mexica knowledge you and many others need to educate yourselves and stop trying to tear others down from getting close to our true culture and traditions maybe you werent trying to be disrespectful but when people act and say ignorant things about my ancestors ONLY sacrificing like they did nothing else its disrespectful

Man, if I were president of Mexico, I would make it so that Nahuatl is taught in schools as a secondary language at least. To accomplish this, I would tell the board of education to train native speakers of the language so that they can become teachers. By doing this, not only would sooooo many jobs be created (keep in mind that many native speakers are indigenous and sadly most of them are in poverty, so this would be a way for them to earn a decent living), but there would be a major preservation and appreciation of our past. We must never forget where we come from.

Or the region's indigenous language. Not all of Mexico spoke nahuatl. For example in Michoacan they are the purepechas and spoke thier own language. I love the idea though !

Cosmo Pix it’s the second spoken language in Mexico but English is beating them to the second spoken language in estimated 50 yrs thanks to Mexico’s neighbors USA and Belize who speak English and it’s also the lingua franca

Yeah, but if they do that, what about the other indigenous languages in Mexico? Why should only Nahuatl get that honor? Also, I'm pretty sure that the president of Mexico doesn't have power to just declare that everyone has to study a given language. I agree that it would be nice if more Mexicans appreciated the country's linguistic heritage, though. My ex-wife is Mexican (and even though she looks more Southern European, is a mestiza), but when I would ask her whether anyone spoke Nahuatl in her family and how many people spoke indigenous languages in Mexico, she would be very dismissive of these languages as "dialects" and said the people who spoke them were poor and ignorant. Sad! (As Trump would say.)

Every Mexican state or municipio should make it compulsory to teach the indigenous language at school to children at an early age. The languages are a treasure that add loads of value to a person's education. It definitely opens people's minds to their past, present and future. This has a very powerful effect on a person's morale, creativity and productivity.

TheLegendoftheWest Spanish didn't become popular in mexico until the early 1900s. You have to realize that up until the Mexican revolution 80% of mexican families were rural and had no education meaning they couldn't read or write in castilliano, they all spoke their native languages(maya,zapoteco,mazhauan). Even Benito Juarez didn't learn castilliano until he was 17 and Zapata didn't learn castilliano until he was 14. in the 1930s-50s Once reforms were made in education to accept all students, Spanish was the lengua frenca because it was the language that had all the jobs. All the manufacturing manuels were in english,spanish so rural mexicans had to learn Spanish from the MEstizos in the new cities they were immigrating to where there were jobs(D.F factories ,zacatecas-michocan mines, Monterrey autos). The person that invented this false mexican history that we all know of today was written by AMERICAN historian William PRESCOT. Basically 90% of Mexican history was refferenced to this guy's in accuate history. He even called the Mexicas the Aztecs. Which is why we know our ancestors as the Aztecs instead of the rightful Mexicas. I mean yes the Mexicans faced depletion of population but that was just one city. There was still Michocan,Yucatan, oaxaca,jalisco, toluca... cities that were never touched. Ever hear about the CHICHIMECA WARS. See false historians never tell you about the CHICHIMECA WARS...they love to glorify cortez and the fall of Tenochtilan but they never refer to the CHICHEMCA and TLAXCALLA,MAYA unanimous victories against the spanish.

+TheLegendoftheWest Nahuatl was the official language of the New World from the 1500's up until the early 1700's when Spain wanted all it's territories to share the same language. If it had not been for that change, Nahuatl would be spoken all over Latin America.

icampos89 Mexico city and Cuernavaca and Veracruz were the main Spanish speaking cities. It wasn't realy until the 1900s that spanish began to dominate Mexico. That was due to the fact the Mexico became industralized and needed a workforce to work on machinery. Plus all the big industries were from Spain and the US. The problem is that there were no assembly, engineering manuels or management in Nahautl , thus Spanish became a lengua frenca. Also the Printing press advances of the 1700s made SPANISH a much quicker language to learn because there were more books in spanish and they were more cheaper to read than stone and carving heiyroglyphs of nahautl/otmi etc. The only way to get a education and to SPEAK SPANISH inthe 1500-1700s was in the priesthood or being really smart and enrolling at the university. in the 1900s that changed witht hte mexican revolution. Even in the 1900s. 80% of Mexicans were un educated and couldn't speak spanish. With the invention of Television in the early 1900 spanish triple its influence in Mexico.

Johnny Flores yes it is very odd. I grew up in a part of Africa where everyone spoke the colonial language (french) the Bantu business language (Swahili) and their tribal language (mashi or walega). to not speak one of the three African languages would be viewed as severe arrogance and treason. here in California Spanish is spoken as a badge of honor and a symbol of Mexican nationalism. if you live here you know that white people are perceived as handed everything on a silver platter and therefore not wise in the hard knocks. if you get on a plane and go to DF you will find that people embrace indigenous culture. get in a car and drive 2 hours in any direction and you will find that indigenous culture is discriminated against, in many cases at extreme levels. even in DF and yes in the California work place where this discrimination cannot take a foot hold the verbal slurs are a part of everyday language. coming from Africa it is just impossible to understand. I would like to learn it because I am curious if I can find links to Bantu languages or the semetic languages they have similarities with. I think Nahuatl holds keys to the history of the human race, but really it is in danger of disappearing because people are more interested in the narco culture los Angeles is force feeding them in a Latin based language. que desagradable

I've actually been working for the past year on a unique writing system for Nahuatl and Maya script. I took the Mayan characters and rendered them down into their simplest form. I then reformatted it into a syllabary that would conform to and work for Nahuatl as a language. Now I've been working on transcribing large pieces of text into this script.

Every child in Mexico should be taught Nahuatl or another indigenous language of their choosing. I think Mexico should make it the first language of Mexico, English second and Spanish never. This is how you keep your culture and identity alive. Nahuatl is beautifully musical and I’d love to see a Nahuatl/English channel for beginners. Some of us were not raised in our culture and are trying to catch up now.

Don't mind me, just an American swinging by as I do some research on the Aztecs for a D&D campaign for my Mexican buddy's birthday. To know that this language isn't lost and is actually used by at least a million people moves me to tears. I was raised with a great importance on my cultural heritage from my dad (3rd gen born in America from Irish and Italian immigrants), and have grown to love history and ancient culture from that. Growing up thinking that languages like this are lost to time makes me sad; no other way to put it. It might not be my culture or my heritage, but I am filled with overwhelming joy to see this video.

Beautiful language! Yours is a great initiative to preserve and promote Nahuatl. A language only disappears when it starts to be perceived as useless and backward by its speakers. The best strategy is to keep the language alive in the most modern means like KZbin.

I'm hearing a slight Spanish-sounding accent in this language. Is this just because of the Speaker's voice, or is it just a coincidence? It seems convenient that the two languages would have similar intonations and such, considering the cultures merged together in a way.

That must be because he is most likely a native spanish speaker... also the mexican spanish accent is very influenced by prehispanic languages like nahuatl, so the natives learned spanish but had a strong nahuatl accent to it for example.. then their kids became native spanish speakers but with a nahuatl accent.. and so on, to the point that a lot of people now don't speak nahuatl at all, but still have nahuatl accent to some degree when they speak spanish.. cool right? I'm mexican btw

he does have a spanish accent, he shortens all long vowels and consonants and also misplaces the syllable stress... The stress is not so important in nahuatl, but the long vowels are and he may not be understood because of this. Nahuatl pronunciation is fairly easy, there are only these two things you have to be careful with when talking :D

+A Paquiliztli Nope, in El Salvador Nahuat (also Nawat or Pipil Nawat) is spoken. It's also a Yutoaztec language derived from Nahuatl but evovled separetly in an entire different context. Although there are some words that sound similar with the Mexica Nahuatl, they are two different and separate languages. It's almost extint by now with a few hundred speakers (most of them over the age of 70 or more) still active.

I'm Native American and my language sounds very similar to this language I have no idea what he's saying if I didn't read the subtitles but I feel like the Mexican people should understand that they are Native American too And this is what they should be speaking or at least learning their Origins because most of Latin America is only half Hispanic some more than others but in reality you guys are Native Americans But I also felt like a lot of People from Latin America don't realize that And thank Spanish is their language sometimes even though it was a foreign European language

Most latinos including Mexicans already knew this, in Mexico we actually have the largest population of full blooded Native Americans, with estimates of 16-22 million, the USA only has like 1 million full blooded native Americans, in some other latino countries like Bolivia, Guatemala, and Peru they have a majority Native American population, Bolivia actually has the highest percentage of Native Americans, with 70-80%, meanwhile in mexico the majority is mixed(Native and spanish), then some full blooded natives, some Spanish(white), and some black people, also some native people mixed with black people, and Spanish people mixed with black people, and even some Asians and middle easterners due to them immigrating to Mexico in the modern day

Im learning too, for the same reason thats its becoming a lost language. Im a mexican, mestizo of course, Im not shamed of my spanish(Basque and Galician) heritage or huichol. Im also been learning Euskara, the basque language, that was outlawed as well as catalan, and galician by Franco in Spain Franco only wanted Castilian spanish spoken. So you can see not just natvie americans were tried to be stripped of their langauge and culture by the Spanish state. Most mexicans are not 100% native american. Science and modern dna testing shows hispanics are the most racially diverse people. I know many of you will not like that statement or fact. Get over it, we are all connected. Most mexicans always have african dna 1% to 7% on average. There was mass african slave graves found throughout mexico. Historical proven,,,I know some of the racist mexicans will get upset about this. Cortez landed in the yucatan, montezuma heard out it from his messengers. He believed and most aztecs, that it was Quetzalcoatl returning to rule the people...the aztecs let themselves be rule by the spanish at first until, cortez wanted the religious human sacrifices to end, the natives got upset. so started the rebellion and war. Spanish colonized the country, intermarried with the natives...and the modern mexican was born Be proud of being mexican but be educated and not ignorant as many of us are when it comes to our complete history. Learn Spanish and nahuatl, Read mexican spanish history books. then you will understand what being mexican is about.

My family speak mixtec. They said i used to speak it just as good as them and fast but since starting school in america i was made to learn spanish first so i could at least understand some of the students then later i learned english. This was at a young age. So now english is my best spoken language and spanish is not so great, but my mixtec is only on understanding level. I cannot speak it but i can say individual words not sentences

I loved learning a few words and phrase in Otomi when I would go visit my mother in law in Hidalgo, Zimapan, Mx. It was so different than spanish and I loved it. I wish I could learn more and wished they have a good translator from Otomi to english. Bone structure of most peoples of the Americas pre-columbus share physiological traits with steppe peoples of Siberia, who in turn have traits shared by east Asians, who in turn share traits with indo-european people..... These racial classification of peoples to the land is trite. Peoples throughout history have migrated, adapted, comingled, and changed. Humans who are native to North America, are those who are born there.

Not exactly true.If people would dissociate features then they would see a Latino as European. But they don't. First thing in mind is Mexican. Why because of facial features; then they tag Spanish, a European language as common to the features. That does not happened with no other race.
