You have a point, one would think that he (plankton) would be smart and keep everyone frozen over at least for maybe a day to where he could start selling the patties and cement his success. Sort of like his debut episode of the same name, plankton. Reson he failed in that episode is because he allowed spongebob to say his last words to the patty, if it wasn't for that, he would've won right then and there and he would've been able to sell patties since.

The newer SpongeBob episodes might not have the same innocence that the older classic episodes have but they have one thing I love more than the older ones: Plankton is far more of a comical nuisance in newer episodes rather than being a genuine threat like he used to be. He's way crazier and funnier than he used to be and most of my laughter for new episodes usually come from him!!!

Season 5 was still a fairly decent season overall. Yeah it had some lowlights (Atlantis Squarepantis being the big flop), but episodes like Krabs a la Mode, Spy Buddies, and Blackened Sponge mostly balanced things out.
