And we got an advertisement for that night that showed SpongeBob and E.T. interacting. Let me tell you, seeing my favorite show and favorite movie crossover was a moment I've engraved into my head.

Fun Fact: When season 9 first premiered, the episodes still used the 4:3 intro. The 16:9 intro was not created until 2016, but has since been added to all episodes of season 9.

Season 9, here we go! Johnny Knoxville is perfect for this episode. It involves the Drasticals doing all these risky stunts, and Johnny was in Jackass, which makes sense since they did all that dangerous stuff on the show/movies 💀 Squirrel Record was pretty cool. Loved the nod to the Guinness Book Of World Records. The robots have returned! License to Milkshake was another good one. He can’t get a driver’s license, now he needs to renew his milkshake license. And relearn to make milkshakes. Squid Baby was a strange episode. I felt bad for Squidward being all hurt and stuff and acting like an infant 😖 another Squidward torture episode

this is where spongebob episodes started to be a lot less focused on character interactions and a lot more focused on short 15 second gags. This is the point where the writers and animators had a big priority shift, often favouring the writing, which strangely had the opposite effect. By the end of the next season, you'll have seen a complete transformation of the animation style, completely ditching character sheets as reference points and embracing very rubbery animation, which they still do today. Unfortunately, this will slowly become a big problem the series has, where writing is completely overpowered by absurdist humor. So, enjoy this sort of interphase of sorts while it lasts, I guess. This is as good as modern spongebob gets.

We're getting close to more consistent quality. Season 9 has some good, and some bad, and unfortunately some AWFUL. But we’re not there yet. “Extreme Spots.” Simple but fun. I didn’t know the Drasticals were voiced by Jackass. That’s cool. I get a smile out of “Squirrel Record” and Sandy’s obsessions. The ice cream machine is always broken, except the Krusty Krab. It’s just SpongeBob’s inability to make a shake. “License to Milkshake” is another fun one. “Squid Baby” is our only dud here.
