Honestly at this point in the internet (and considering the fact that most creepy pasta audiences were kids or tweens) there was so much mystery about how stuff worked and it was never about “believing” it was more about the concepts themselves being disturbing and the “haunted” aspect of it I guess. I don’t think the episode was released back then. The first time I heard the story it was from a guy narrating what he saw in the episode, so I believe that so many people who heard the guy narrate it had their imagination fill in the blanks for them, which is what truly made it really scary. Especially since creepypastas back then kinda we’re spreader though mouth, and we’re slowly forming on the internet, and I think YT was just settling in, since the DVD says it’s from 2005. TL;DR: Most, if not all people who know about the Red Mist Lost episode, didn’t watch the actual episode, it was just rumors that became popular

This is surprisingly good editing! The silence genuinely made me feel uncomfortable and it literally feels like some lunatic or mentally unstable person pieced together some series of clips from a Spongebob episode just to express their emotions. Like, I know it's fake and all (and obviously someone should redesign those red eyes from the creepypasta to look more realistic, but also fitting for Spongebob's animation style [same with the gun]). Kind of a sense of uncertainty and being unsettled by it.
