#HRStv host Julie B. Shea, MS, MSN, FHRS, CCDS, is joined by Ziyad Peer, MPAS, PA-C, Andrea Robinson, MSN, ACNP, AACC, and Martha G. Ferrara, DNP, FNP, FHRS, CCDS, to discuss the changing landscape of Implantable Loop Recorder (ILR) implantation. Advanced practice providers (APPs) are now actively involved as the primary operator for ILR implantation and APP implantation programs are growing across the US. They review the following:
- How / why the APP role makes them qualified to do this procedure and how it has helped to expand access for patients and improve lab efficiencies.
- The importance of a "physician champion" to assist in the development/ implementation process and by utilizing a "team approach" allowing patients to have better access to quality patient care, which has a positive impact on patient satisfaction.
- Implementation challenges which included a "lack of a blueprint" at the beginning and the lack of a credentialing process.
With the development of industry sponsored credentialing programs, this has helped to "move the needle forward" promoting much needed education and training.
