Brandon, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are a Canadian treasure! 💎 Thank you brother for having my back and for being so open and transparent with this video 🙏 We've talked about it many times and you know I still feel "icky" about sponsorships but you summed it up perfectly: it's a necessary part of running a KZbin business. As long as you are still being selective, prioritizing education and only promoting services that you truly believe in and provide value to your audience. No amount of money is worth losing that trust and sincerity. As a fan and as a colleague, I respect you and Marc so much for that 🙌

I don't see how 'moomoo' sponsorship falls under such criteria. Or at least you failed to establish any credibility for this app or company before promoting it. You have hours of content talking about Wealthsimple or Questrade. Out of left field comes a moomoo sponsor with no unbiased analysis. It's not like you just had an ad play. You yourself went ahead and made a dedicated video to promote them. A fair analysis analyzes the pros and cons, but sold out to only promote the pros. You even go as far as to what seems to be to intentionally demote Wealthsimple. You never mention possible ways to avoid some of the 1.5% xfer fees by direct depositing from a USD account, nor the recent updates of larger transactions having lower fees. Willfull Blindness.

Just watched this whole video. As a fellow KZbinr with a similar channel size, I will say that you absolutely have to take sponsorships to sustain a channel and continue adding value to your audience. My channel's revenue is almost the exact same as yours (~$36,000/yr). This alone is not enough to sustain someone, and therefore, you need other sources of income to create KZbin videos. Sponsors are one of those main sources. To put this in perspective: One sponsored video can generate 4 months of KZbin income. As a creator and businessman, it's just silly and illogical to turn that down. The key is to make sure the sponsors are high-quality, trustworthy, and value-adding to your audience (which yours 100% are!). I will also confirm that I get asked (almost) daily to have sponsors come on my channel. I also turn down 90%+ of the inbound I get, because I feel they're not value-adding, or something I truly can get behind (like crypto platforms). In general, you hit the nail on the head here, Brandon. Thank you for making this video, as many other creators, myself included, echo your message. You're a legend.

LET'S GOOO! I have no problem with sponsorships in YOUR channel. I know you and Marc put in the effort to provide us with high-quality information. I would even encourage having guests from your sponsorships more often. Having said that, I do miss the individual stock picks (research), stock battles, and updates on the Questrade and WS portfolio. Cheers!

This is a heartfelt message, Brandon. Those who follow you for years already know how selective you guys are with the sponsors. And we follow you as we trust you guys are genuinely sincere in your videos. That being said, there will always be some rude that just need to be ignored. I said the same to Adrian (the Canadian in a tshirt). Just ignore them. ❤

I like your channel and I am a KZbinr too so I thought I'd weight in. Maybe consider doing ads that are not related to the video topic at all sometimes, so that it's clearly an ad and doesn't bias the video in any way. An ad for BMO or moomoo might feel biased to the audience, but an ad for Skillshare or HelloFresh doesn't give any impression of bias. If people don't like any ads at all, well... too bad. That's just the price you pay for free content as a viewer. Yeah it would be great if KZbinrs didn't have to do ads at all, but the bank doesn't let you pay your mortgage with likes and subscribes. 🤷♂

@ when my parents walked into the bank to talk to a financial advisor, they sold my parents mutual funds with 2% MER. My parents spent $60,000 in a mutual fund costing them $1200 per year… bank finance advisors are sales people - not actually giving financial advice that young people NEED

You provide a service to those who follow you and as such deserve to be fairly compensated. KZbin creators have a finite lifespan that may be measured in days, months or years depending on the relevance and quality of the content. Planning a 25 year career on YT might not be the best plan. This misnomer that folks can make a living on KZbin alone is surprising to me unless you are a super large channel. Sponsorships for a channel like yours indeed are necessary for you to continue to pay the bills and provide the services you do and I get that. Folks need to be realistic and if they believe you are parroting the wishes of your sponsors then they should go find someone else to get their info. I am smart enough to know at 61 years of age that channels such as yours can provide useful food for thought but never have I ever taken financial decisions based upon a KZbinr, that’s just crazy. I have used info from KZbin channels such as this (including from sponsors) to go investigate something that may be interesting to me. Discard the negativity you see. Keep doing what you’re doing.

You guys have been a staple in my KZbin viewing and I have learned so much about investing from you! I appreciate you addressing this. I think for me, the problem is I can no longer truly receive your teachings without bias anymore. This especially touchy as the topic of the channel is investing. You will no doubt promote the ETF's etc that are paying your bills and not necessarily the best ideas of the times for stocks etc because of this sponsorship-styled approach. Ive never looked to you or anyone as "stock pickers" but I always appreciated your non bias ideas and info. It was what drew me to the channel. True teaching! It now feels more mainstream and like another financial/ investing organization that is geared towards getting you into their product(s). I see the predicament, but for me anyway, as a DIY investor I am not as drawn to your content for learning anymore. I do enjoy Marks weekly market updates and I still think you're both awesome humans and appreciate you! (I loved your old school teaching videos for what it's worth those were super:)

I admittedly don't read thru all the comments on the videos I watch, but I'm surprised that you're getting so much criticism for sponsorships. Video idea: what if you did a video of all the companies that have reached out to you for sponsorships and you do some “due diligence” deep diving into them in real time. Make it an unsponsored video, you don’t even need to officially say they reached out to you, but go through some so we can see the scams you’ve protected us from. Maybe more people would appreciate that.

It is the one of many things that I like about yourself and your dad (Marc). I do agree that getting sponsorships has its issues. KZbin definitely does not reward creators via ad revenue like in the past. It’s become increasingly more difficult if not impossible to make a living off of it anymore as the algorithm continues to adjust and reward the select massive creators. If you don’t have the sponsorships, the ability to turn YT into a full time career becomes impossible. Which in turn means you create less…And as we all know, if you don’t feed the algorithm consistently it will recategorize you to lower rankings. Double edged sword :/

Brandon, I am comfortable with the sponsorships you have elected to work in recent months. Haven't forgotten Marc has had a full career as a professional, with many years of fiduciary duty practiced under his belt. Sometimes it is the big, established companies that DO have lots to lose - it's also a risk for their image if something goes wrong on your channel. These companies also have to vet your channel, as much as you would in your due diligence. I'd much rather see corporate sponsors pay your channel properly and alleviate the pressure of you having to take on no-name, untested products/sponsors. Keep up the great work - I think many viewers appreciate the honesty and clarity. These will be the long-term viewers you want to keep anyway.

I do understand and agree with what is said in the video. However, I am sad to see that the quality and content of the channel has went downhill since a couple of year; Marc's videos are very informative but have shifted the channel's content a lot over the last couple of years. It is evident that Brandon has this channel as a n 3+ priority after Blossom and the school IMO ( not that there is anything wrong with that) but just saying that it shows. Hence why, when the content and quality change and more sponsors are pushed forward, it leaves a bit of a sour taste to the viewers. Best of luck to you guys anyway !

Your team are not the only creators to have "sponsorships", and you won't be the last. It's a necessary part of the business, and some who don't "get" that fact must be either naive or synical. What is valued is your content, your transparency, frankness, and the obvious scrutiny over who you chose to endorse. I have found value in the selected promos, but obviously did my own further research. Beavis Wealth represents to me a credible and trusted source. Actually, to have been sought out by such big businesses as say BMO, well any athlete could be so lucky to be sought out for such sponsorship. And, Blossom has been a great outlet to tap into as well. Always look forward to the new videos. Thanks! 👍🤩

I don’t normally comment on videos but you guys have a lot of FREE content around investing. If you are going to spend your days making valuable content available for free, you will need to have sponsors or a lot more AD revenue for it to make sense. The alternative would be that you guys do something else with your time and we don’t get the valuable content we have been getting over the years. I have a few unsuccessful KZbin channels and once a video starts getting a few views then I also get a few negative comments. I say all this to say that negative comments come with the territory and you guys shouldn’t beat yourselves up over it, just keep adding the value you have been adding. Personally,I own a bunch of the etfs that Marc has talked about. I don’t think it’s unethical to talk about products that a large portion of your viewers might ACTUALLY be very interested in knowing about. (Like ETFS) in fact,in my estimation,Marc is pretty subdued in presentation. He always says something like “if you want to know more about..(insert product provider)… that isn’t offensive. To be honest, you didn’t owe anyone this video. A lot of content creators are doing videos containing skippable ads and sponsorships. As long as it’s relevant and trustworthy, I have no issue with it. People have to make a living and I personally gain value from watching your videos. Thank you for sharing.

It is such a shame that you have to justify accepting sponsorships. That some viewers are feeling inconvenienced by skippable ads (or even the un-skippable ads) is a pity. It's the nature of KZbin, creating content is a lot of work and a time-consuming endeavor and yet not always profitable depending on scale. I'm a newer creator (on a part-time basis) and have a new found respect for fulltime content creators. I think some viewers are simply being unreasonable and should be disregarded!

Being sponsored by BMO or Hamilton or whoever is fine. Its the blatantly obvious sellout to China with moomoo that actually pisses me off. I get it, the selection criteria goes out the window when offered enough $$$. But so does your credibility.

I look at your videos as food for thought and entertainment, and anyone who just takes what you say and invests their hard earned money, without doing their own due diligence, is foolish. Just like I don’t r7n out and buy a certain coffee maker because George Clooney says he likes it, I look at your ideas as something I either look at closer or dismiss. Be true to your self, and your viewers, and hopefully they won’t take everything you say as a buy recommendation, without doing their own research.

Hey, you don't have to explain nothing to nobody! You are not the only creator that makes revenue from advertisement. Honestly Iam sorry to say this, really sorry, but this was not a favorite video. Again, you got nothing to prove to anybody! Haters will always say crap. A quote Icame a cross was don't take personal the things people say when you wouldn't take investment advice from them". People watch your material because it does provide information. It's up too people to do their own research. If they have questions you answer. I haven't seen you push people to a product. I hope you don't feel you have too make a video like this again. Good luck, keep up the videos.

I am going to comment without even watching this video. Your shilling of horrible Hamilton leveraged ETFs is sickening. If you want to take sponsorships from these guys you can't be letting it bias your decisions. I am reasonably sure neither of you would love to suggest people invest in a leveraged ETF if they weren't paying you and that isn't right
