Its acceleration on all surfaces (including paved ones) is absymal. Gaijin just doesn't know/doesn't want (how to) give wheeled vehicles the mobility AND maneuverability they have in real life.

As a Brit main, the Ratel 90 at the BR was my Ol' Reliable with it being the first tank you can get with HEAT-FS. It's a light tank that can reliably pen heavy tanks at it's BR at the cost of being sluggish, having the turning radius of 1.5 Walmart parking lots, and having about as much armour as a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Used conservatively, I've top fragged without dying several times in it.

FINALLY! AT LONG LAST! Given how much you enjoyed the 90, I recommend trying the Ratel 20. You swap out the heat slinger for a slow traverse, limited elevation, low pen 20mm and the post-atgm change Roland. Its like a marder with none of the benefits and even more negatives. The Ratels are a good IFV family that sadly is not built for the type of combat War Thunder provides and most of its benefits not translating to the game.

@@hecku Starkly different than my experiences. 1) Aim up or else it will smack directly into the ground 2) keep mouse steady as even the slightest movement will turn it into a beyblade 3) target drives away before it can reach 4) die to CAS After around 80 matches with 6.7 SA I had to call it quits and just use the 90. I’ve only experienced this specifically with the ratel, I cant recall other Milan equipped vehicles having THIS much of an issue. Though I have had sucess using it as an indirect fire javelin. It would also be funny if we got the Eland 20 as a Fox backup😈

Glad to see you figured out how to HEAT tigers after a few matches. Once you do, HEAT becomes much easier to use on most tanks. It's a bit contrary to what you expect, you literally want to UFP them down the middle as much as possible or ammo rack frontally like tiger. Roof is also great if up on a rare elevated position left in the game.

Honestly, I loved the Ratel 90. It was such fun to use. The HEATFS is probably it's main saving grace but the other SA vehicles have been great in my experience. The Rooikat, the Eland and the Rhino (don't have the Olifant yet) have all been nice vehicles to use in my opinion. Though I will agree that the Ratel is SO SLOW at times despite what its card SAYS it should be capable of.

Spookston is dead on when he called it a bus. It’s an APC carrying a 90mm gun with HE shells for infantry support. It just happens to have theoretical access to HEAT-FS. I’d guess that IRL 99% of the time it didn’t carry more than 2-3 HEAT rounds if any at all.

Mobility is atrocious but that 90mm heatfs performs well enough to have fun in it

Fun fact the Ratel IFVs could drive 105 km/h (65 mph), had a 275hp engine at 2.200 rpm and were the first Wheeled IFV to enter service worldwide.

After suffering with solid shot for so long as a british main, to finally unlock the Ratel with HEAT-FS changed my outlook on the game. It stayed in my line-up for a long time, probably up to 7.7. The British tech tree would be very bleak without the South African vehicles.
