There are many hidden and rare tanks in War Thunder that used to be regularly available premiums. The T-34 Prototype is one such tank, only being owned by very veteran players. Gaijin recently offered it as a limited sale, but despite this, it's almost never seen in matches.

Based on limited research, the T-34 prototype (also called the A-34) is identical to the T-34 production just without upgrades to visibility and carrying less machine guns. The A-34 is quite literally a T-34 before it was designated T-34 lol

@@effectpower Top speed is 54 instead of 49 km/h. Since early t34's has 19.5 power to wait ratio, it doesn't have a hard time reaching to that top speed. It is more mobile than a Chaffee in that sense, since it has more power to weight ratio while only having slightly less top speed.

The A-34 is a different tank, the A-34 was slightly different internally and had a different shape of some body parts (for example, a more convex driver's hatch, which could not be used if the turret was rotated). There were the same number of machine guns - 2, the observation devices had the same -1 periscope in the tower. In the game, it is precisely that pre-production T-34, which is cheaper relative to the A-34. There was also an A-32 with a 45mm gun and lighter armor, and an A-20 light tank. Spookston the "Thing you are missing" is not the 24.5 tons, but that the Prototype uses a "Harder to manufacture, mechanically superior" (or something like that) Transmission and a different engine, giving the Prototype superior acceleration and top speed, it can go up to 60 or more! Edit; You noticed but asked if it's more mobile then a normal T-34. I have a lineup of 10 T-34's and it's the most mobile in the game next to the T-34-100 which has a modern engine. Most T-34's MIGHT break 50km/h downhill, the A-34 can hit 59-60km/h on flat, dirt, terrain.

It's got the same engine power (500 horsepower), and the transmission still has 4 gears, but with lower final drive ratios. This means it has higher top speed at 54 km/h, but also worse acceleration to that speed. It also means it cannot possibly achieve 60 km/h on any flat terrain at all. Unless you're playing arcade, to which point other T-34's will easily break 50 km/h, even the heaviest ones. And the T-34-100 doesn't have an engine more powerful than the others. The only T-34 that does is the Chinese T-34-85 Gai at 520 hp. Additionally, the T-34-100 has the worst hp/ton of any T-34, as it weights the most while having the same engine as almost every other T-34 (except the aforementioned Gai).

@@flipallthetables793 I don't Arcade at all, just Realistic. The 60km/h is frequent and always, don't know what to tell ya. The Engine does also operate differently, with its V-2 early model engine running at a Higher RPM to the V-2 in later T-34's. But owning actually every T-34 in war thunder and playing them all the T-34 Proto and T-34-100 have superior mobility beyond the Gai.

@@lightninglash5366 You don't need to tell me anything, it is not possible to go over 60 km/h on flat ground with the T-34 Prototype outside of Arcade. Literally go into a test drive with the T-34 Prototype, or even open a custom battle in the Cargo Port map which has extremely long flat roads, and drive it. I did just that. You cannot surpass 54 km/h in flat ground outside of arcade, even on literally the best possible roads. RPM by itself doesn't matter, but maximum RPM is used in game (together with gear ratios and drive sprocket radius) to calculate top speed. Top speed matters, and the way it works is that if you have 2 tanks with the same hp/ton but one has higher top speed, that one will accelerate worse (for the sake of this I assume both tanks just have 1 forwards gear). And I've tested it extensively using custom models and timing the acceleration down to milliseconds going frame by frame. I never said the T-34 Proto had worse mobility than the Gai (after all, the Prototype does weight significantly less giving it better acceleration, which more than makes up for a 1 km/h lower top speed). But the T-34-100 does. And again, I've tested this and timed it.

Day 24 of telling spookston to play the IT1. its a ATGM launcher on the t62 chassis, it has decent-ish mobility, the turret is squished. You can hide behind cover and shoot ATGM over the cover like a gremlin and you overpressure tanks (tho it can be rare, but it does happen without you realizing) and its MG is really werid. Also it has a cool reload animation.

The real different this type of T-34 has an radio improvement, additional periscope and a spotlight. However Gaijin is added a wrong tank and it was supposed to be an A32 not a T-34 (Prototype).

since you said the ratel 90 wasn't bad, you should play the objectively awful ratel version; the ratel 20. it has the same bad mobility as the 90, but with the same weapons as the marder IFV, which doesn't sound bad at first, until you realise you're expected to fight king tigers and jumbo pershings with 7 slow to reload MILANs and an autocannon that can't even pen a panther's side (day 3)

fun fact: The "T-34 Prototype" was actually called "A-34" and was developed from 1937 until 1939 and is based on the earlier "BT-7M". The T-34 entered full production in 1940 and saw many modifications until 1944, when it was planned to be replaced by the T-44. the first mass produced version of the T-34 (T-34-76 btw.) shared it´s gun (L-11 76mm) with the KV-1 and also the SMK Prototype, which was later replaced by the F-34 cannon (1941).
