Very nice ideas for spoons. Your own products look very good. Very rarely do I see anyone fishing a spoon here in southern Iowa. I fish spoons a lot. I use Aberdeen hooks, the split ring needs to be small. When I am lazy I fish an original Rapala floater so I can just let it sit there and twitch it. Only in northeast Iowa are there many trout streams. I used to live in New York 55 years ago. We would vacation in Maine, which is where our families lived from the 1600's until the 1950's. Nice channel. I enjoy your videos. Best wishes to you.

Great video... very informative! I was curious how you pair your single hooks with your NE troller (trolling spoons) spoons? Size 6 with the 100s and Size 4 with everything bigger? Thank you.

Little Single hook action never hurt nobody! Everyone should Like and Subscribe if they have doubts on switching to a single hook. The proof is in the puddin'.

I really like your videos. I always do what you do with lures...switch out the treble hook for an open eye siwash hook, and put a split ring on top of the lure. The only difference is that I don't add a swivel. I fish mostly alpine lakes and if I use a swivel, I seem to pick up a little grass on it from time to time. Line twist doesn't seem to be an issue, probably because I am not fishing in current.

I've done a few mods like this in the past. Adding the swivel to the spoon itself is something I haven't tried. I also like to replace the lure hooks with red hooks, treble or otherwise.

Can I use inline single hooks?
@mainetroutwhisperer2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t. That would put the hook sideways to the spoon. Better to have a normal hook eye with the point facing the back of the spoon

@@mainetroutwhisperer Thanks. I did wonder about that. Thanks for your comment. I will have to locate some suitable hooks here in the UK . I do like your KZbin videos.

Do I add split shot to my line when using spoon?
@mainetroutwhisperer Жыл бұрын
No need. It will just add line twists. If you need to get deeper use a bigger/heavier spoon.

@@mainetroutwhisperer I use 1/4oz spoon or spinner. Is it the same with crank baits and other lures?
@mainetroutwhisperer Жыл бұрын
@@matthewparker5885 not really. Frank baits have a bill that makes them dive to depth. Floating cranks usually won’t dive as deep. Sinking cranks you can let sink to desired depth then start reeling. Usually the specs and diving depth will be on the box of crank.

Wondering why the crank bait single hook is facing the opposite direction?

less snags. Doesn't seem to effect the hook up ratio ether way.

Why do the single hooks you use have such long shanks? I imagine the closer the hook is to the spoon the better. No?

What size Dardevle were you showing? What size Split ring? What size barrel swivel? Great concept, but lacking detail needed for layman execution. Kudos for mentioning hook size.

Well, its going to change for every spoon size you are messing with. For the spoons I sell (size 1/8th and 1/4), a size 2 thin gage split ring, and either a #4 or #6 hook with a #10 swivel works well. The video would be hours long if you want me to go over every spoon size and what hardware to use on it. I've also found some companies sizes vary in split rings and swivels... You will have to get an assortment of rings for sure. one companies 1/8oz spoon could have the hole drilled lower than another companies 1/8oz spoon and you would need a larger split ring to fit it. I was just showing the modification that can be done.
