Muscle Shoals, Alabama "1967". My mother & her parents lived only 48 miles away in Athens, Al. at the time. Funny how all this was happening 4 years before i was born. I kinda admired her in my teen years during the 1980's & into the 90's my young adult years i really liked her 80's hit with George Michael "Knew you were waiting for me", "A rose is still a rose" & many others. I think Aretha was one of the first artists to have her own vocals multitracked where she could sing along with or behind herself. She was music personified.

My love for music totally brought me here tonight to this video!! I'd just gotten home from traveling to The Redskins/Bucs game in Tampa Florida(Skins won Yayy!!) this weekend and sat down on my couch and started listening to my music on KZbin like I normally do on a daily basis and for some reason I started listening to Blues... Candi Staton , Johnnie Taylor etc. and then I went to Candi Staton gospel and from there I went back to Johnnie Taylor and one of his videos showed the song of dedication to him recording that song in Muscle Shoals Alabama and from there that interested me so I Googled the famous Studio "3614 Jackson Highway" which was shown in the video , so that interested me... which took me to the 4 guys that Founded "Muscle Shoals Sound Studio" in Sheffield, Alabama!! AND THAT'S WHAT LANDED ME HERE !! Oh what Joy it is to know that you learn more and more about Aretha and so many other artists everyday... wonderful wonderful history !!!😘

FAME means Florence Alabama Music Enterprise and is now located in Muscle Shoals. Muscle Shoals Sound is in Sheffield. 😂 If you get the chance come visit! Both can be toured now and the piano Ms Aretha & Ms Etta played is still there in use. Feb. 25 we are honoring hometown boy Sam Phillips with a show at The Marriott, I think there are still some tickets. David Hood will be playing and probably Spooner. They are keeping the performers a surprise so far. Donna Jean will also perform as Elvis was the one that took her on tour at 18. He wanted her sooner but her parents said NO! I could tell you so many stories I learned on the tours and just from living here but you need an excuse to come visit. We have the WC Handy Festival in July check into it. Hope you come see our little corner of Bama. Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers!

Don Hammond was the first to discover her genius. Her stint in Muscle Shoals came after her signing with Atlantic. She'd already took of in New York singing It Won't be long on Shindig. Shoals just put her on Top. Well deserved I'd say!

It is crazy how I lived in florence Alabama my whole life and never knew all the talent that has came through here until I was 30 years old. Peanut Montgomery is my uncle and wrote many songs for George Jones but everyone was always quite about all of that. The Swampers always was low key and most people especially the young people today have know clue about this great history of florence, tuscumbia, Sheffield, and muscle shoals Alabama

Rick Hall tried to take credit for Aretha; he ALWAYS listed her in his roster of who's who artists that recorded at FAME. But the truth is, she only cut one song there. These 'Muscle Shoals' tributes always grossly overstate the music she recorded there. There's no denying the achievements of the Muscle Shoals studios in the late 60s and 70s, but the guys who were part of that scene are the biggest name droppers in the world. And by the late 70s, interest in the Shoals studios began to wane. That's why you only ever hear those guys talk about music made there in the glory days 40 and 50 years ago. What's going on there now?? ....... nothing, except stories about the glory days 40 and 50 years ago........sad
@Cincinnatus18692 жыл бұрын
Rick Hall at least accomplished enough that he isn't threatened by anyone in the industry supposedly being a ' name dropper'. I can see why some insecure person who has never really done anything memorable or even worthwhile might feel like they need to be dismissive of Hall's work . It's a habit if insecure people to do that , so they don't feel quite so inadequate . Keep your head up. Maybe one day you will do something memorable and you won't feel so pathetic.
@illinoisgospelfan6502 жыл бұрын
@@Cincinnatus1869 LOL Pathetic?!..... may be! But since I have nothing to do with the music industry (other than as a listener), and I'm not trying to 'achieve' anything, I'll let the jealousy comment go by. Now, back to the point of my original post: the whole ARETHA thing is completely overblown. That's just a fact! She basically blew into town, recorded 1 (count 'em) 1 song, got mad and left and never came back! But she's always one of the first names HALL and the SWAMPERS threw out when they were popping off artists who recorded in the Shoals. Just watch any of the many KZbin video tributes about Muscle Shoals; its ARETHA! ARETHA! ARETHA!! Really!!?! Talk about exaggeration! What's weird is that they'd want to talk about her anyway given the creepy and awkward experience of her visit there. It led directly to Rick Hall's falling out with Jerry Wexler! I have great respect for Rick and boys and what they were able to pull off. And in the tiny town of Bumfuck Alabama no less!! It was nothing short of amazing! The survivors (and there aren't many of them left now) can take credit for artists like BOB SEGER and ETTA JAMES and many other artists (with star power!!) who recorded great bodies of work at FAME and MMS. Just not ARETHA. She's not even a blip on the radar. Just sayin'.....
@Cincinnatus18692 жыл бұрын
@@illinoisgospelfan650 those dirty sons of bitches have no right saying they were partially responsible for that Aretha song. Those phony , no good lying bastards have never recorded or played on a single worthwhile track in their collective lives , and all their work combined doesn't amount to a hill of shit . Fuck them all. Bunch of scumbags . They should burn the damned building where those degenerates recorded and all their work should be taken off the market. Their surviving relatives should be imprisoned .

Who went to New York? Wear did they find those people? Without Rick Hall and the Swampers wouldn't have been possible. You can try but you can't deny concept of origin!!!
